I usually enjoy reading this author's books despite the repeated use of the same story and character elements and the retell element of the narrative. Her books are kind of a guilty pleasure. They're not "quality" reading but completely suck me in...usually. I had a difficult time with this book. First, I didn't really like the main character, Brooke. She repeatedly used people but had cast herself has the good friend surrounded by selfish people. She was just as selfish as everyone else but acted like a martyr. Second, I couldn't believe that Rider was ultimately her heart's desire when she spent the entire book lamenting her inability to be with Drew. Third, I could not suspend belief enough to buy that kids in kindergarten/first grade had true romantic feeling for one another and broke eachother's hearts so much so that it left a lasting impression. Kids that young do not feel that kind of love. Friendship love and familial love, absolutely. Not romantic love. And if they express that kind of love, it is a learned behavior, not a natural one. I couldn't buy it and it didn't sit right. Finally, there wasn't really a sense of closure at the end. It was pretty disappointing. Even the epilogue didn't help. The one thing that might save this story is that after the epilogue, the author made a note that these character would have more story to tell later. I'm not entirely sure their story is salvageable but I'll probably give them another shot when she publishes their next story. Maybe.
Melanie Marks scores again with another awesome read. Brooke has several guys taking notice of her all of a sudden and doesn't know exactly which one she wants and it doesn't help that one is her ex-boyfriend from kindergarten that broke her heart. This is a sweet love story and a fun read.
The author started out strong but then with a good plot and dialogue. However in my opinion she spent to much time on one of the relationships Brooke had and it honestly almost all of the boys chasing after her were like crazy. And finally the ending it was the worst I have ever read before, I mean she didn't ease into it it was like an ending of the most obvious ending for the book.
It was a test to my patience to read this book. I have read other books from this author and usually they are an easy breezy read. But, this book was really annoying. The writing, the main character and everything else just annoyed me.
Ugh. What can I say? I got 5% into this book and I can't read anymore. The writing is so cringe worthy and horrible. I can't even waste my time anymore on this book.
