WHEN MARJORIE GRIFFITHS LEARNS THAT HER HUSBAND HAS HAD A CLANDESTINE MEETING WITH A YOUNG WOMAN IN A LOCAL MOTEL, SHE HIRES PRIVATE INQUIRY AGENT, DICK HAMPTON, TO KEEP HIM UNDER SURVEILLANCE.
When Hampton informs her that her husband is in a room at the motel, with the same woman, she hurries over there, and when she sees her husband leave and drive away she decides to confront the woman.
And then she vanishes.
When Marjorie’s husband, Chuck, reports her missing, he becomes an immediate suspect in her disappearance. He hires attorney Oliver Davies to represent him, and Davies recommends Kane & Lucy to investigate Marjorie’s mysterious disappearance. But when traces of Marjorie’s blood are found in the matrimonial home and in her abandoned car, Chuck is arrested; and this is only the beginning of his nightmare, as demons from his past return to threaten and even destroy him.
John Hemmings is an experienced criminal attorney and writer of crime fiction with a one hundred percent record as a criminal trial lawyer - not one of his clients has ever been executed...yet!
He graduated in English literature and spent five years as a post-graduate lecturer before turning to a life of crime - on the right side of the fence of course. Each of his books features Boston private investigator Mark Kane and his long-time companion Lucy.
Many of the stories are inspired by actual events and people the author has met and worked with during his career, but names and locations have been changed to protect the innocent - and sometimes the guilty.
On his website: www.johnhemmings.net you can read the first 5 chapters of each of his books in the Mark Kane Mysteries series (and even read the first 4 chapters of the next book in the series: 'Missing'. which is due to be published in approximately 6 weeks).
Young woman was kidnapped. During the investigation it was discovered that the husband had been married before and had a daughter. An imposter for the daughter tried to blackmail the husband.
I really enjoyed this book very much. The chemistry between Kane and Lucy and how well they work together is awesome. I look forward to reading more of this series.
This was an easy to read book with lots of excitement. I loved the plot which had many twists and turns. I loved the main characters too. I want to read more of this series from this author. I will be following him from now on. I bet the rest of the series is wonderful too.
Always enjoy reading Mark Kane mysteries. Kane and Lucy, his sidekick, have been together just a short time, but I like it better than when she just got called when he needed her. Sometimes though his " explanations" to her seem a bit stilted. Condescending almost like she is a 5year old instead of a grown woman. Please work on that if you read this. Otherwise his stories are always entertaining.
An apparent kidnapping or is it murder? A husband is seen with a young woman at a motel, the wife disappears. Ransom demands made, threats given. Is it real or a scam? Kane and Lucy again involved in a new case. The interactions in this one were not as snappy as previous books but still entertaining. For lovers of mysteries with partners and sharp women, this is a good read. I received this book free in exchange for an honest review.
I chose the rating because it's an interesting read that holds your attention. I like the characters and how the story flows! Also with the characters there's no limit to the number of story lines Mr. Hemmings could come up with!
I enjoy going through the series with Mark and Lucy. Each story is a stand alone good read but going through the stories with them is what makes it special.
I've read almost all the books in the series and loved them all. I love the interaction between Kane and his assistant/ girlfriend Lucy and the mystery never disappoints. These books feature clean language and no gruesome violence or explicit sex.
