The Exonerated/A Plea of the Innocent #2

Damned if You do Damned if You Don't

Rate this book
Conrad Wilson, an ex-detective, had less than a month to live. The date of his execution, by lethal injection, was scheduled for the 1st June. All legal avenues had been exhausted — the Governor of New Hampshire refused to review his case.

The only problem was; Conrad Wilson was innocent, but no one cared. Or rather, everyone that cared wanted him executed. His only chance to escape certain death was Judge Regan St Clair and Jake Westley. Did they have enough time to stop the execution?

Jake and Regan quickly discovered a number of holes in the Wilson case — tampering with forensic evidence, an alibi that stood up to scrutiny... It was evident that Wilson was innocent, he certainly didn’t kill his mistress as was alleged. Someone has gone to great lengths to shift the blame onto an innocent man.

But why were so many people desperate to see him dead — for a crime he didn’t commit? Who was the real killer?

Was Wilson framed in order to let the real killer get away?

Or was there some truth in what Pavo, one of the Organization bosses everyone is guilty of something?

I didn't see that one coming right until the end! Its true — some things are better left alone. JC Ryan has been my favorite author for a while now. I've read each and everyone of his books so far and I have never been disappointed. I have to admit to scepticism when I got the notice about his new series "The Exonerated" but that was only until I read the first book, Judgment Call. Saying that, I was pleasantly surprised to see how Ryan had succeeded in crafting another excellent book in a new genre.

With Damned if you do, Damned if you don't I had another round of action, plot twists, spine-chilling thrills, mystery, intrigue and great dialogue. The heroes, Judge Regan St Clair and Jake Westley, the former special forces commando, were back, backed up by Alex, their computer whiz, and many others. A storyline that kept me reading and reading until late into the night.

No spoilers but let me tell you this one has got a few curve-balls you wouldn't see coming. His books are addictive.

Second book in the Exonerated trilogy. Not as good as the first book but still and interesting read. Old characters are developed well and new ones add to the larger story arc. Shadow organization is a questionable good/bad guy and a young judge has to figure out what justice really means. If everyone is guilty of something is it okay to put them away for a different crime?

Excellent!

As good as the first, if not better! Characters are well developed and believable. I loved the plot. Scary to think this could happen...

too much nonsense information.

First 20% was good, last 20% ok, middle was all drivel. Wouldn’t recommend, he does much better than this one.
