My name is Mac Brennan, and in order to save my family, I made a deal with a devil. Now, that demon has come to collect his due. If I want to get back to my family, I'll have to pull off one last job.

It sounds simple enough. Save a kidnapped girl from the demon who runs New York City. I'll be honest, I sort of agreed at rescue a kidnapped kid because I'll be damned if I let some poor girl get taken from her family when I have the power to save her.

My name is Mac Brennan, and apparently, I'm a sucker who risks his life to save children.

When New York Times Bestselling author, J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.

Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.

He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.

He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.

It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.

Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.

He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.

Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.

J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.

Mac is back, not that he wants to be back, he just wants to see his sister and nephew, but sometimes you don't get what you want.

Seem the demon he made a promise to, is calling it in, Vassago wants him to go and rescue some kids from another demon. Throw in a girl and her brother the dummy, a living ventriloquist dummy , with a very smart mouth, a Vodka drinking bear shifter and worst Jenna, a girl from his past. Someone who knows him before he got hooked up with his cat demon. The best part is you get see a snowman in hell.

Mac wants answers about his past, the demon wants a body for her boyfriend brother, and the cat demon wants to show who is the boss.

Action, Action, Surprise!

Mac is back. Or rather he is yanked from seeing his family by a demon who's calling in a promise. He is working with a new team that includes a girl from his past who he can't remember. He learns more about his past and his current situation. There are many twists and he receives a giant surprise at the end. I like the humor with the smartass commentary and the non stop action. I look forward to the next book.

life is never boring around mac....he always gets into one or two fights...

the only annoying thing i am finding with these books is they finish in such a way that you have to read the next book as it continues on from where its been left off previously

but they are a good read if you like zombies vampires and all sorts of shifters getting into fights

As always, LOVED!

Another adventure with Mac Brennan is another fabulous escape from reality! Witty and wise, his amnesia filtered past continues to allure, with quotes from current media to references of the rich and famous. And yet who is he really?

Poor Mac Brennen! He still is missing most of his memories, including his memory of Jenna, his old flame. Every time he thinks he will get home to see his family, something in his Cursed life gets in the way. Excellent characters and plot, with plenty of unexpected twists.

Good story but lost me about half way in, and really hard for me to put a book down! I kept going back to it, but if I am still not finished a year later, moving on. I am sure it is good for many, just didn't capture my interest.

Wow, this was a good one! Mac and and a group of mercenary types are off to Hell to bring back a girl who has been taken by a demon. Not the easiest task in the world! What makes it harder is that one of his new team mates remembers him but, with his amnesia, he doesn't remember her. Awkward!

Still entertaining

The more I read this series, the more I can't wait to find out what happens next. Each of the books picks up where the previous one left off. Onward!

Mac returns and it's even crazier and more fraught with danger than the previous books!
There is not a single thing I can fault about this book. The humour is often very dry and had me sniggering, if not laughing out loud. The action is fast, violent, sometimes stomach churning and above all very exciting. Last but not least the characters, oh boy the characters! Mac's adversaries are in a league of their own, they are all so incredibly weird, but then again so are his allies.
This was a one-sitting, couldn't put it down book and I loved it!

The first three definitely worked as a standalone trilogy but I'm thrilled to see that that wasn't the end for Mac Brennan and company. This book seemed to raised the stakes and shed a little more light on our intrepid hero and his mysterious past. I also enjoyed how we get a little better view of the world of demons and territories. I ended up eating this book up the same day that I finished Burned because I just couldn't put it down. My biggest issue is that I'm going to have to wait until the next one hits the digital shelves.

Seized: An Urban Fantasy Novel (The Thrice Cursed Mage Book 4) by J.A. Cipriano continues where Burned, Book 3 stopped. Mac Brennan still needs to save his family. He made a deal with a devil and now the devil is ready to collect. He needs to do one final job. I gave it four stars.

He's working with a different crew: Vitaly, a Russian werebear shifter, Jenna, a mercenary who knew him before but he doesn't remember and Wendy who has a snark-talking puppet. They're headed for Hell and they manage to arrive there.

Level up!

A rousing jaunt through hellish landscapes and a former lover conspire to make Mac's day go from bad to are-you-freaking-kidding-me?
We find out a bit of Mac's past and find out about the cat demon who claimed him.
Awesome read and I can't wait for the next one!
