I have a Bachelors Degree in Writing and English from Elmhurst College, and I am a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Tau Delta International Honor’s Societies. I have had one short story published in, the Prairie Light Review, entitled Pharmacy. I have also had one poem published in, Black Widows Web of Poetry, Weaving Our Poetry one Thread at a Time, entitled Modernist, Post and another poem Nip Tuck published in the, Middle Western Voice.
I am a married (30 years), mother of four grown children. I live outside Chicago and have been diagnosed with Systemic Sclerosis 20 years ago. My doctors at the time gave me three to five years to live, but I’m still going and going strong. My illness has brought me on a journey of health via nutrition and I will be happy to answer any questions that you might have.
The series continues and readers will enjoy once again being with Gina Parrot. What is the best thing about this book is that the author also takes readers to a different realm and find Gina is aided from the other side by Brad and Vladimir who have problems of their own. I love this series that is well written and thought provoking. Keep the good reads coming Carly Compass.
This is a book I had eagerly (and sometimes none too patiently been waiting for). The aptly titled “The Holidays” is Book 5 in the electrifying ELECTRIC series by Carly Compass. It picks Gina’s story up where it ended on a cliffhanger in Book 4 (The Aftermath).
Without warning, the reader is thrown into a world where up seems down, wrong seems right, and every bend in the road leads to another twisted temptation. Gina is whisked away into a universe of its own, so to speak, of nefarious practices, unsavory characters, nasty tricks and international crime thinly veiled behind unimaginable grandeur and splendor. It makes for a disturbing read, but in a good, thought-provoking way that doesn’t allow you to let go even after the book is finished. I can’t really say much about the story itself because SPOILERS… But I will tell you that we’re traveling into the spiritual realm again, in more ways than one.
The author deftly manages to create so many different pieces that all form one picture of confusion, corruption, charisma, catastrophe and clandestine chaos. Evil scheming meets philosophical discourses, raw emotions meet superficial joys. And caught up in it all is Gina, who wants nothing more than to be cherished, provide for her children and honor a husband she lost in an abominable way. She feels like a fly trapped in a spider web to me. The more she struggles, the more she gets tangled up in the sticky net. But when she ceases to struggle, a whole family of spiders crawl towards her and weave a second net of lies. Some of the villains in the book – which ventures into the dark corners of BDSM too – deserve (pardon the pun) to be electrocuted.
Book 5 ends up a cliffhanger too, and I’m sure I’ll tear some more hair out until I get to read the sixth and final instalment in the series. Until then, I’ll keep my mind occupied with adding my own research to the amazing and intriguing snippets of information on the beginnings of religion that Compass has – like a good compass needle would – pointed me to.

When I reviewed book 4 a while ago, I commented on what an interesting journey the author had taken me on. It began with a gentle narrative about an ordinary housewife in book 1 and led to a tense thriller that saw the main character, Gina’s life torn apart. This latest story continues that theme. Throughout this book, I had the impression that the author was testing how far she could take Gina (and perhaps the reader). The answer is very far indeed. This is a strong psychological story with touches of Gothic that explores some very dark aspects of human behaviour. From a personal perspective, I do not think this is a book that you can fully appreciate if you have not read the others. That said, if you have read at least some of the previous stories, book 5 will provide a completely fresh experience. The author introduced a new subplot in the previous story that centred on her deceased husband and lover. I was not convinced that this was a good move and I am still not. What I am convinced about is that any writer who can retain an audience through five books, has created something special. Cheers.
If you've been following Carly Compass's Electric Series, you'll be both surprised and shocked by the fifth book, The Holidays. We know from the from the previous books that Gina was dealt some heavy blows. She was diagnosed with a devastatingly terminal disease which left her terrified for her children's futures. Then both her husband and the man she had an affair with died mysteriously. She was then informed that her every move was being broadcast on the internet by cameras that were hidden throughout her house. So, the 5th book finds Gina leaning on her best friend and the men around her for support. However, these people are shady and not to be trusted. They drug and corrupt her into doing things she's not comfortable with. As in the last book, the spirit world is back. Her lost loved ones helplessly watch Gina sink further and further into submission.
Carly Compass did an amazing job with this book. She always provides detailed descriptions of places and things that Gina visits. I like how she provided a little bit of a history lesson in this book - giving you interesting points and perspectives on things that will keep you thinking. She also delves into bdsm which was hot and steamy but tasteful and disturbing at the same time. I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen in the next book. What I do know is that I'm excited and looking forward to seeing how everything pans out! Thank you Ms. Compass for giving us readers another fantastic and thrilling book!
