USA Today best selling and award winning author, S.L. Morgan was born and raised in California. After 29 years of living in the Sierra Nevada Mountains there, she and her husband began their journeys of moving throughout the United States. In the summer of 2014, S.L. Morgan and her family returned to her hometown of Oakhurst, California. In October of 2011, S.L. Morgan became inspired to write her new novel series, “Ancient Guardians.” With her passion and love for Jane Austen and other classic romance novels, she was motivated to write a novel series of her own. The Legacy of the Key is the first book in her novel series, taking readers not only into a new magical dimension—but giving them a feeling that they have been transported back in time—into England’s 18th century. Morgan refers to herself more as a storyteller instead of an 'author.' She enjoys creating worlds that readers can escape into, and characters they can call friends. She is truly grateful everyday for having the courage to share her stories with readers from around the world. With her series, Ancient Guardians complete, Morgan is embarking on a new adventure and looks forward to releasing a new series soon.
My favorite out of all books, but I'm just the author. Thank you to our faithful readers for your love and support of this series. Next up? I will be writing the short stories of Levi and Harrison as they become "Guardians" I'm very excited to write this. Consider it a "prequel" to the Ancient Guardians saga. My love, SMorgan
Never before have I finished a series with a smile on my face and thought "Wow. How awesome was that?!" I am almost always left with unanswered questions (essential to the plot) or a longing for an epilogue of sorts to give that much needed closure. I am sure that comments such as "Well that was disappointing" or "That's it?" are not what authors want to hear from their readers when they have invested so much time, effort, and money into their creative works. Well, Mrs. Morgan, you won't be hearing that from me! The Reckoning is, without doubt, the best and most satisfying conclusion to a series I have ever read.
The emotional journey I went through with the characters is unbelievable. There are some dark moments. I thought vol.3 The Awakening was a bit dark but...yeah, no. The Reckoning lives up to the scary font and the blood red cover. However, the sweet moments are made that much sweeter as a result and I wasn't left with unpleasant images to dream about- have I mentioned that I want a pet zorflak? The action is thrilling and full of suspense. I do believe that it all may have been a bit too much for me had it not been for Harrison's wit and ability to find humor in any situation (thank you Harrison!). The romance is "awww"-inducing and completely appropriate. The characters are married adults. While nothing is described in great detail or can ever be considered explicit, the reader is not treated as a child with a parents' hand covering their eyes and ears. The romantic moments are sensual but discreet. Respect for marriage and its dues is evident through the characters' point of views and in the way the scenes are written. The frequency and length are natural and not overly long where one starts to feel like a voyeur. Extremely difficult to accomplish but I feel that Mrs. Morgan found the perfect balance.
I am blown away by the fluidity of the story. Not once do I recall being disillusioned or forced back to reality by a grammatical or continuity error. I was completely pulled in to the world of Ancient Guardians and entertained from beginning to end. Though I do have some questions, they come as "afterthoughts" and are due to my perpetual curiosity of the characters and their lives - a testament to the impressive storytelling! The story in itself comes full circle and though there are many twists and turns, everything falls into place as it should.
I will always appreciate the stories of the many books I have read throughout the years and the authors who wrote them. That being said, every once in awhile a book/series replaces the one I held as my "favorite". I believe that the time has come again. S.L. Morgan, thank you for sharing your imagination. I look forward to what more you may have in the works. Happy Writing!
This was a roller coaster of a ride. While some got the e-book sooner, really Amazon?, than others, honestly B&N! rude!, all I can say is I was more than happy to wait for such an end for the amazing series. This book made me laugh, cry, angry, and shocked...
This isn't your typical "boy saves girl and her whole life changes while she is safely protected" type story. There are several strong ladies in this story including the lead, Reece, who stepped up to the call of duty with such grace and courage! The others being Angie, Lizzy, and Lady Allestaine. Even Simone, though I thoroughly despise her to no end, is strong willed and tempered even if she was weak due to hatred. These females, except you Simone!, have joined my other favorite females, such as Hermione, Alanna, Daja, Alayna, and a few others, as some of the best! Levi was great and we see how he was when he lost his memory, but they pushed through. We see how Levi changed for the better and to the man Reece fell in love with. My favorite has been, and always will be Harrison. He has changed so much, for the better, but also remained his lovable and wonderful self and not too much that it was so uncharacteristic of himself.
The character development we see is wonderful not just in these ladies, but with Levi, Harrison, and the other characters. Seeing how amazing they interact and think are wonderful, and how it is perfectly acceptable for a Lady to be strong. Their descriptions were great and each one had a different and wonderful personality.
The descriptions are amazing and I truly felt that I was right there with everyone in the Palace or the special spots or even on Earth! The fight scenes were wonderfully done and I felt the excitement that the characters were experience. I even felt like I had a premonition for Reece at one point because I felt so connected to the series.
The story was absolutely wonderfully done and written that I was terribly sad that it had to end. I've grown to love these characters and share these experiences. I felt I was there, that it was all real, and I was on these adventures with them. I can't wait to reread these books. The one thing that threw me off was the introduction of one character, but it didn't matter greatly to me as the author did make it flow with ease.
The final (maybe) book in the fantasy of guardians series was long. It's hard to review a final book without spoiling the series so I'll keep it vague.
What I liked -
Memory loss/amnesia may be tropey and come straight out of a soap opera but I love reading it. Seriously, it's so angsty when it's done right and I love it. Instead of a character losing memory of a specific person, the character loses the past 9 years. Think about who you were 9 years ago in your life now. It makes for such interesting character study. I felt like the author did a great job with it.
The romance is sweet as it's always been. It's a little on the cheesy side but this book is a romance first than actual fantasy so I'll let it slide.
Harrison. He is easily my favorite character. The smart, bitingly witty, sarcastic friend who says exactly what's on his mind and usually what I'm thinking. He calls out Levi and Reece on their sappy romance but he's never a jerk to them. Love him, I loved he got his own POV chapters.
What I didn't like -
Time travel trope. Eh. It's probably my least favorite thing to read about. I feel like it's a lazy way of writing out of a problem. Are the characters facing impossible odds? Go back in time and fix it. It renders the previous books useless. I don't like time travel. The author did a good job establishing rules for it and such but its not something I enjoy.
Mary Sue. Marian. That's all I'm going to say.
The length. I read on my kindle and I don't usually look at page length. This book was 670 pages. This could have easily been two books. It dragged in some places, was really heavy on romance and the boom plot. It would skip around and time jump months. Eh. It would have been better as two books.
The epilogue. Just no.
Ultimately this is a romance. If you like your fantasy action heavy you might to skip this one. I enjoyed the series. And I give all my stars to Harrison.
I have always thought that this author has done a good job of creating a fantasy world with a period backdrop and a smattering of science fiction. They are realms that exist at the polar extremes of the literary scale and as such present a difficulty for the reader to find the setting believable. Never the less, this book series is successful in progressively immersing you into a fantasy world where the universe is under constant threat of destruction by a powerful creature from a malevolent dimension. Only the earth born ‘Key’ prevents his success. Pemdas is set in a non descript era where a much loved royal family rule from an impressive palace. It is a world of horses, handmaidens and corsets, regal balls and splendour. Where a Lady should be proper and a man should be noble. Yet you can ride a horse through ‘barriers’ that enter worlds where the inhabitants can mentally persuade you to commit treachery or where warriors ride giant flying lions. Add telepathy and time travel to the mix and you have an interesting read.
After enjoying the rest of the series, I was disappointed with the final instalment. I spent the previous books watching Reece and Levi’s love story unfold and felt it was unnecessary for the author to use the first few hundred pages as a plot for their love story to begin anew when Levi loses his memory and with it any remembrance that Reece is his wife. The book only started to hold some of my interest about 400 pages in. The small sections that captivated my attention soon petered out because the action scenes were rushed and lacked detail, something that the author used in abundance when talking of the numerous romance and love storylines. Considering the various threats and constant impending annihilation of Pemdas and earth, the book filled me with little suspense and intrigue. I think this was due to the length of the book which was detrimental to its pace. I thought it should have been split into two books. The last 100 pages were so random and seemed like they were an after thought or an introduction for a sequel.
Overall I loved the series and there were elements of this book that I enjoyed but the plot was skewed towards romance, which although had beautiful dialogue, overwhelmed the book by stifling the intensity of the altercations with the book’s antagonist and other adversaries.

The Reckoning, the 4th and final book in the Ancient Guardians series, is nothing short of spectacular! Filled with surprises at every turn, this book will keep you guessing and wanting more. As usual, author S. L. Morgan's detailed descriptions make you feel as if you are a part of the story, and it's easy to "see" the beauty of Pemdas. You will laugh and cry while reading this book, and you will not want to put it down!
This continuation of Reece & Levi's story was highly anticipated, and well worth the wait! This is one romance/adventure/fantasy book that will NOT have you easily predicting what will happen next. This entire series is amazing, and all 4 books are worth reading over and over again!
Slip into the world of Pemdas.... you won't be disappointed.
All I can say is WOW! I have read the first three books in this series and anticipating this book for what seemed like forever and I am happy to say the book DID NOT disappoint. Once I started reading it was impossible to put down. I was so engrossed in book and all the details that I found myself laughing, crying and becoming angry with the characters as if I was right there with them. I will be rereading the entire series again. I look forward to reading anything the Author S.L. Morgan writes in the future with her imagination and the way she is able to describe in such detail everything that is going on making you feel as if you are right there experiencing it for yourself. I would love to see this series made into a movie. I would recommend reading this series to everyone
Beautiful ending. I was waiting for this book.....like for forever. But that wait was worth it. I really enjoy this book. Was a roller coaster from beginning to end. I cry and laugh with my favorite characters Levi, Reece, Angie, and Harrison (my favorite of all of them). Was a great series and sad that is over but happy with the ending.
Book 4 and it keeps getting better! We get a glimpse of the old pompous Levi but Reece brings him back better than ever. Everything happens to Harrison (swoon!) Love happiness disaster joy happy ever after. Wasn't too sure of the time travel solution but it worked in the end! And the final chapters ... I'm assuming there is a sequel or two to follow as well as the prequel novellas? Thank you S.L.Morgan four a fantastic series!
There was so much in this book--exciting plot twists, answering questions, and rounding out the story and characters very satisfactorily. Quite the love story but full of action. Thank you to the author and editor--it was worth the wait for them to combine books 4&5 into the grand conclusion.
The entire series was well written. Immediately taken to an enlightened world of enjoyment. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts that have turned into a well deserved and award winning success.
Wow, what a finish. This book has everything, time travel. Romance, fighting and family. Some areas of the book reminded me of scenes from a men in black movie. Loved it

I will try my absolute best to keep spoilers to a minimum or completely out of my review. Sometimes it can be hard to do so.
Absolutely a fantastic ending for this series! This series has been an incredible emotional rollercoaster. The love between Reece and Levi is unstoppable. No matter what fate throws at them, they overcome it and love 💘 each other that much more. Harrison and Angie's love is just as captivating. This book is still packed with action, adventure, love and plots to destroy Reece. There is an unexpected twist at the end that is completely amazing. That twist leads to a spin-off. This is a wonderful series and a must read!
•••••• I highly recommend this book! •••••• ~~ I have Kindle Unlimited, and I used that service to read this book. ~~
I recommend this whole series. I enjoyed the beloved characters and the strength of love between Levi and Recce. Harrison is a great comic relief which ebbs the darkness or their trials they face. The story moves with constant turns and twists that it maintained my interest until the very last paragraph. Levi is very romantic in expressing his love so it was very fulfilling for me as a romance read and there are a lot of challenges which was fulfilling for me in an action read. Of course, as a female I always need my heroine in my books and Recce was one I could cheer for. I liked this series and I hope my review will encourage others to try it.
I re-read the first 2 novels before reading the 3rd and now just finishing the 4th and final novel...what an adventure! I was hooked, and devoured every page as if I was starving! I adore every character, their development has been a real joy to follow. I love the drama, the highs and lows and the trials and tribulations...it was exciting to follow the different journeys, the variety of locations, the abundance of imagination that has helped me escape the current lockdown of the pandemic. I look forward to revisiting these stories again
This was a great finish (maybe) to a good series. I liked this book most of the 4 that I read previously. I will say that I felt it drag a little bit towards the end, but I like the possible set up for new books in the future, and the finishing touches on the story. Not a lot of questions were left at the end, which is always a good thing in my opinion. I would recommend this book, and the series.
I couldn't put this series down. I went through it all. The ups and the downs. I felt like I was time jumping with the kids. I want to know how Isabelle fared once she knew she could never have het first love. I need to know if by the kids jumping time will it change the future?
Didn't like the time traveling bit, too much went wrong -paradoxies. The romance well, when he lost his memory, sad and I cheered her on in her fight but it was really too much from time to time. All in all, the series was interesting, not mind blowing, so I don't remember a lot to review....
I chose a 5 star rating due to the continues flow of story throughout all 4 books. The character development was amazing, varying them made the story more real. Emotional feeling was so real, help me to stay on the edge of my seat.
The jump of eight years I felt was a large span. By going 5 generation was lacki g want transpired in between. That along with graphical errors were sloppy and rushed.
I really enjoyed the last book in this series. The author’s writing style has improved tremendously since the first book! It was a bit long at times, but it was packed with twists and excitement and all sorts of action, love and magic!
EXCEPTIONAL. This series has it ALL- drama, intrigue, sci-fi, romance, --- EVERYTHING. The writing and story is fast paced and well written. It flows so well. Thank you, Ms. Morgan. I can't wait for the next series.
Reading this series threw me into a loop, not wanting to put them down. Brilliant story line and an amazing series, made me feel as if I was actually present with each page turn.
I love this series and how adventurous it is! Flair of romance, family, betrayal, romance and some sci-fi. But it's it really!? Sharing with my YA Son as this is right up his alley! I'm happy to see there will be spin offs!
I loved the plot and how it all plays out. I especially loved the last chapter and how it gives the reader more to think about while building more excitement. Can't wait for the next book!
A must read mystery series. I felt like I was right there as I read this series. Loved the characters, and the strong willed nature of the main character. One of my favorites for sure.
