Future Shock Zero is a monumental comix anthology focusing loosely around the watchwords of SCI FI ASTRO PLUS. It is packed to the gills with talent from the razor's edge of the thunderground. Your eyes will be bathed in the soothing glow of full color for all 136 pages of the spectacle contained within. Enjoy! - Josh Burggraf, editor
A mixed bag, like almost any anthology, with comics from some real talents--Lala Albert, A. Degen, Anuj Shretha--standing out amidst weaker work. The highlights, surprisingly enough, are editor Josh Burggraf's interstitial collages, which are gorgeous and actually attain the levels of weirdness most of the comics in Future Shock Zero only reach for.
I really wanted to like this. For the most part the anthology is uneven and hit or miss. Retrofit is a great publisher but in my opinion, this book is not up to their high standards. Highlights for me were Anuj Shrestha, Pat Aulisio, and William Cardini.
I really was blown out of the water with some of these comics. And I loved all of them. Many scenes - set in a future galaxy or on a non-solar system planet - were colorful and tactile, even pleasant. The premise of most of the comics was subtle, but present.
