Re-read and I noticed a couple more things such as,

1) Firstly, and most importantly, Hyuse and Yotaro have matching hoodies!!! *dies from overexposure to cute*

2) At the start of B-Rank Wars Round 5, Osamu isn't sweating at all and he looks completely at ease. It's nice to see him feeling truly confident.

3) Osamu is so much more comfortable in the role of a supporter than an attacker. He's clearly in his element with Spider, setting traps and tricking his opponents. I love that he's not a "strong" fighter, so to speak, but he can still annoy the crap out of strong ones and catch their attention.

4) Flashback Arashiyama Squad are so adorable, I cannot- I mean, Tokieda tho. He's so baby. (Now I want to see Tokieda as an actual baby. Did he always have his permanent poker face, even then?!)

5) Our three heroes have each learned from their latest match and improved themselves accordingly. Chika has great friends who helped her out. Osamu is trying his hardest as captain of his squad (and making me proud!). And as always, Yuma is bringing his 'A' game and shining bright.
Tamakoma Second's coordination as a team and performance (both as a team and individually) has improved notably and it's beautiful to see.

I'm happy to say this was just as good as the first time around. Every time Katori collided with the wires gave me life. xD and, of course, the moment where Katori and Kakizaki Squads decide to just ignore Tamakoma Second and Tokieda's like, "I wonder if they can ignore that?"
It's never gonna get old. 😌 And I'm never gonna get tired of Chika blowing things up either!

I love this volume!
The stuff with Hyuse and Yotaro, the aftermath of the battle when Inukai and Yoneya are playing around with each other and Kako asks Miwa to do it with her and of course he refuses and tells her to do it with Yoneya. I like the sibling relationship between Kako, Miwa and Ninomiya because they were all trained together by Azuma.

The Rank Battle between Katori squad, Kakizaki squad and Tamakoma—2 is one of my favorite battles. I was so excited the first time I read it and it was just as exciting to reread.
Osuma’s Spider and Chika’s lead bullet show that they are both learning and growing. I love how well Yuma and the Spider Trigger went together.

Well, it seems Jin plans to have Hyuse join Tamakoma Second as his way
back to Aftokrator!! YAY~ I can't wait for this! :D

Yoneya and Inukai playing around with the slippery goo in the aftermath of the battle like the teenagers they are was funny and cute. And Kako tries to get Miwa (of all people) to play with her like that. Of course, he refuses and tells her to play with Yoneya instead. XD

After the first handful of chapters, this volume goes on to focus soley on the B-rank battle between Tamakoma Second, Katori Unit and Kakizaki Unit. I was most excited for it because of Osamu and Chika's new weapons, the wires (or Spider) and the lightning + lead bullet. I was not disappointed at all! Tamakoma Second has improved and evolved since their last rank battle and it's beautiful. They have a way to go but they are making great progress! And it's all thanks to Tokieda, Kitora and Ema. :)

Katori Unit is an...immature mess. Hana acts more like the leader than the actual leader. They could be formidable if they tried to work together and maybe they'd even reach A-rank. But the way they are right now...I don't see that happening any time soon.

As for Kakizaki Unit, I was unexpectedly moved by Kakizaki's backstory. He's simply...relatable. Some of the things he said hit too close to home.

"I've always thought...That I'm not somebody that's really capable at doing things."

He is frustrated with his teammates for choosing him because he thinks he is holding them back and they have wasted potential fighting together with him.

How much he believes in and values his teammates is sweet but he needs to learn to believe in himself as well.

Satori crying about Kakizaki leaving Arashiyama Unit in the flashback is both cute and sad at once. :(

One of the best parts had to be when Katori Unit and Kakizaki Unit are all like, "we'll just pretend Tamakoma Second doesn't exist so we don't have to go into their wires" but then Chika starts sniping and blowing the buildings up around them. You can't ignore Tamakoma Second that easily! :P

The battle is still ongoing and there was a cliffhanger at the end so I have to go read volume 17 asap to find out who wins! The odds are in Tamakoma Second's favor. And despite Kakizaki's final strike, I think Yuma is fine. He's too quick and smart to get caught so badly that he'd have to bail out...especially since Kakizaki basically warned him right beforehand. That was a bad move. 👀

I still can't get enough of this series. I really hope that the mangaka gets better soon because I love this series and can't wait to see what happens next.

I received this advanced copy from VIZ Media through Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.

Really great plot and combat strategy.
If you like action shows, but can't keep up with action manga, I definitely recommend this series because it explains all of the strategy to you.
It's really fantastic.

The Neighbor invasion has been stopped, but one piece involved isn't satisfied with the results. Hyuse managed to meet up with a Galopoula soldier and little Yotaro was even willing to give him back his Black Trigger and send him on his way. But Galopoula revealed that Aftokrator abandoned Hyuse on purpose. Now Hyuse must find a new way home... and Jin has the perfect solution... if they can get the top brass to buy it.

Meanwhile, the Rank Wars have continued without interruption.
So it's Tamakoma-2 vs. Katori Squad vs. Kakizaki Squad. And Tamakoma has some new tricks to show off.

Oh, I still love this series so much - even if it has been on a half year hiatus (as of writing this review) due to Ashihara's health problems. Only 18 volumes have been published - but at least the hiatus begins after the latest rank war battle was fully completed.

Story: Galapoula has been soundly defeated - but they will not go quietly and they are not out of the picture yet. When Hyuse catches up with Reghi and demands to be taken back to Aftokrator, a sequence of shocking events will begin with the appearance of Yotaro on the scene. Will Hyuse kill Yotaro to prove he's still loyal to Afto? Meanwhile, the rank battle has begun! Tamakoma needs to score here to stay in contention for A-Rank. But Kakizaki and Katori squads are determined to see that doesn't happen. With Kakizaki's self doubt and Katori's over confidence creating problems, neither are going to be prepared for Amatori's lead bullet and Mikumo's spider traps.

This volume really is two events: the end of the Galapola arc (where we are promised they will be back in the near future!) and the beginning of the next rank battle. We were set up nicely for the latest rank war and it is quite fun to see the culmination of Tamakoma's training come to fruition.

The real treat of Volume 16 is the fun characters. Hyuse gets his moment to shine and some antics with the very immature Inukai and Miwa squad (with their feet encased in slippery goo from the battle) is quite cute. I love how Ashihara comes up with these little fun moments.

Although the next volume is the last for awhile, I will wait patiently for the series to start up again. it's definitely one of my favorites in the past few years. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.
