When the living are just as dangerous as the dead, things tend to get tough, real tough. The survivors will betray you to the hordes in a heartbeat while those damned man-eaters just keep pressing forward, dragging their lifeless limbs and gnashing their bloody and broken teeth… Well, you get the picture, and it sure is a fugly one.
For every single wasted flesh-bag Dallas and her crew put down, twelve more rise to take its place like the most horrible kind of virus-infested hydra in the history of the universe. How much future could possibly be left for the few who’ve managed to escape its clutches?
Dallas doesn’t know, but she sure as hell wants to find out. Can she put the pedal to the metal and ride through the danger to find a safe haven that may or may not exist, or is the virus craving a nice juicy flank of lesbian ass to add to its ever growing empire?
Where ever Dallas is going, she better get there fast. It’s time to burn rubber, baby!
Alex Westmore lives in the oven called Palm Springs, where she rescues desert tortoises, lizards, and a snake or two. One tortoise, Fancy Pants, is nearing 80 pounds and is eating Alex out of house and home! Havig travelled around the world to get closer to the action, she has spent time with Voodun in New Orleans, medicine men in the Southwest, and a Shaman in the Amazon. She has travelled to Galway, Ireland where her pirate captain, Grace O'Malley lived, ridden on the back of an elephant on safari, and raced an ostrich. Her adventures both keep her OUT of trouble as well as put her INTO trouble.
Alex is also a five-time award winning author of several series, from zombies to demons to empaths, oh my! When she isn’t writing, she’s thinking about writing and imagining where her next great adventure will take her, often, it takes her out onto the backroads of Southern California on her awesome beast of a Harley. Spice up your life! Join Alex on her next amazing adventure… you will be so glad you did.
Dallas is so good and everyone else is so stupid, I'm struggling with this series.
The lack of remorse or even care for others is wearing me down. I get that this is a kill or be killed scenario but Roper is becoming a psychopath.
I think this series isn't for me. I appreciate the quality of the writing and the consistency of the setting and reactions, but I need a little light at the end of the tunnel.
I love strong female characters and the storyline was exciting and intriguing. I loved it and love this author. I thought that Dallas, Roper and butcher's journal entries made the storyline move along. I definitely recommend this book.
This is a good series but I am really fed up about US Christians, God and the Word of God being homophobic! Not all people who profess to be Christian are, and not all religions believe the same. Update your knowledge on all Christians and religions so your books will sound real and not downtrodden on a group!
I love the main characters. The writer does a great job bringing the characters to life that they start to feel like friends. I even stopped reading half way through because I couldn't stand the thought of one of them dying. This book was too good to just pass it over. The group finally starts fighting back and do more than just survive.
A bit of a different story line from traditional zombie stories. This one felt a bit glazed over but interesting g how the author decided to cover months of story in character journals. I didn’t feel that this one was as good as the first but still worth reading the series!
Oh gosh... I love Dallas and Roper. They're so badass. After losing sleep from reading the first book, I thought I'll read the second for a while and try to get some sleep. That didn't work, 'cause I've finished the awesome story and have yet to sleep still. Time for the third book!
I started it the day after reading the first book in the series in one setting. The second expands and explores the lives of the characters I loved in the first as well as adding new ones to the cast. The writer has created such a expansive and inclusive cast. I love Alex Westmore's strong characters. Reading their stories makes me feel empowered. Not many books leave me feeling that way these days.
The plot had a lot of familiar zombie trope settings, but I loved her take on them. It was refreshing and a fun read that was some times heart wrenching.
I'll be starting the next book in the series later this afternoon.
This book picks up shorty after the first and is just as great as its predecessor. The characters are established and the relationships between them are all solid, we know where each of them stands with each other. We get to meet new personalities and fall in love with new members of this group. I especially liked Zoe, Hunter, fletcher and Cassidy(met her at the end of the first book) are great additions too. Each new member brings something to the group. Zoe is brave and loyal to Dallas and Roper almost from the get go, and fletcher and hunter are excellent with crossbows. Cassidy is great with a rifle and has grown really close to the main characters. I like be the dynamic these new characters bring to the group!
This story is exciting with lots of tension with added conflicts like being pregnant during the zombie apocalypse and trusting new people on the road to a better safer place. Can't wait for the next one, this one left off on a kind of cliff hanger.
Burning Rubber is the 2nd book in the Riders of the Apocalypse series. If you thought "Ride for Tomorrow" was good, then you're going to LOVE the second instalment. Dallas, Roper and the gang return for another round of action and adventure, not to mention nail-biting tension. There are a lot of twists and turns that you won't see coming. Man, Alex knows how to write! The introduction and integration of new characters is seamless and I fell in love with them immediately, especially Zoe and Hunter. Alex develops her characters in such a way that you need to know what happens to them. You genuinely care about their well-being and you hope to God that nothing bad happens to them.
Alex has a unique writing style that I've not experienced before, which is why she is one of my favorite authors.
Pros. Fast-paced, brilliant storytelling. Simply put, it was wonderful. I love the plot, the characters, the delivery, and the pacing.
Cons. Is it a con that I couldn't put it down so I ended up reading until 3am? No? Well in that case, nothing.
