Harking back to classic crime and detective fiction, Abattoir is a film noir style whodunnit.
Taking us back to post-war London, our protagonist and dark hero is the damaged and complex, Mike Kearney whose unorthodox style of policing attempts to unravel the disturbing case of a serial killer.
London, 1958
Detective Inspector Mike Kearney is an alcoholic World War II vet who moonlights as a gangland enforcer. Life plods along comfortably at his own pace but after he's sought out by a woman to do a seemingly easy job, he ends up on the trail of a sadistic serial killer, forcing him to face the shadows of his past and push further into extreme territories.
Abattoir is an absolutely fantastic read, the characterisation and development was outstanding and the constant stream of twists and turns had me hooked from start to finish.
I can't wait to see what else Owen has to offer in the future. Read this book!
