All six episodes of the apocalyptic sci-fi horror series from award-winning horror author, Barry J. Hutchison All over the world, mysterious bugs have begun burrowing into the flesh of human hosts and driving them to carry out unspeakable acts of violence. As cities fall and civilisation begins to collapse, groups of survivors band together to first find ways to survive, then to fight back. This is their story. Because it isn't a virus that ends the world. It's a Bug.
Barry J. Hutchison is an award-winning author, screenwriter and writer of comics. Having written over 70 books for children and teenagers, Barry is now writing books for adults. Space Team is his first grown-up novel.
Barry lives in the Highlands of Scotland with his wife, two children, and irritatingly upbeat dog.
It was almost good. Hoon is a blast, great character. The people in Boston are idiots. Slow and looks like it could be a go on forever without getting any answers type of series.
I didn't really think this book was that scary. It was kinda slow and I was also offended when Mike stated he was a Marine Lance Corporal of the U.S. Army. There is no such thing. I am a real marine I should know.
I think this is what the literary types call 'Scottish noir', but I could be wrong. This is a 'boxed set' of episodes that make a novel. It's gruesome apocalypse fiction, set mostly in contemporary Scotland and the north east of the USA. There's a tinge of extremely black humour reminiscent of Chris Brookmyre and Iain Banks - hence my reference to 'Scottish noir', but Hutchison is very much his own man. I'm in danger of spoiling it a bit when I say he really keeps you guessing, and wrong-foots the reader time and again. Just when you think it can't get any worse for the protagonists, it does.
Hmmmm .... I hated the jumping from person to person. It’s also got plenty of gore. I felt like the author was trolling me. Some of it’s kinda predictable. The end made me realize boy.... he’s gonna stretch this out into like 34 books with the plot moving this slow. Have 26 different POV each book and kill everyone .... nall I’ll go back to the zombies
from the author of such a whacky universe, this book offers us a chilling look into the darker side of Barry's mind. Not for the faint of heart and if your kids are a fan of Space Team, I'd suggest you wait til they've seen Rambo level movies before letting them read this one. All in all another home run from Mr. Hutchison.
The Bug by Barry J. Hutchison is a story about mysterious bugs using people as hosts and causing said hosts to do evil and bazaar things.
I couldn't get into this story as much as I thought I would, though this was a bazaar story with quite a bit of creepiness. I just had a problem with the execution. It felt a bit choppy to me.
Shifting from first person to third person and back again seems like a strange way to tell a story. However Mr. Hutchison makes it work, drawing together two different story lines into one cohesive and gripping story. The bugs are truly frightening and sinister, the characters brought together in a time of tragedy. Pulse pounding action and a very real sense of terror pulls us (the reader) along for an action packed spiral into madness and despair. Come join the fight for humanity and the world as we know it.
Wow! It's kind of like a cross between World War Z and The Mummy with a little ID4 thrown in. Barry J. Hutchison has a deliciously dark and twisted mind. DCI Hoon was a riot; and the only person strong enough and crazy enough to survive the infection. I'll probably read it again if we ever get a dark and stormy night.
