I’ve been interested in this book for a long time. I’ve read other of Nancy Leigh DeMoss’s books and have been highly impressed with both her practical side as well as her standard of sticking to Scripture. This book was definitely no less. Nancy and Dannah gleaned from personal life examples, studies, and talking with teens across the country to compose many lies that girls tend to fall into. Lies such as: God isn’t really enough, what I do now doesn’t really matter (won’t affect my whole life), sin is okay as long as I’m not caught, my life won’t be full until I have ________ (boyfriend, possessions, beauty, etc.), and the list goes on. Each of these lies is discussed in detail—but not too much detail as to swamp the reader or expose them to details of sin. The book is also formatted in a very cute and easy-to-read fashion. I found myself many times going, “I’ll just read one chapter today…” but it was so easy to finish that I read another, and then another.

Now, I read this from the perspective of a young woman whose parents taught me the truth—many of the things discussed in this book were taught to me from childhood. In light of that, I agree with the truth that is presented here. I thought it was presented in a very loving fashion, yet they also didn’t sugar-coat the truth or tone-down sin. I really appreciate that. And I highly recommend this book for teen girls. At the same time, I definitely agree with Nancy and Dannah’s note in the beginning: moms and counselors read this and decide if it’s good for your daughter/study group. While it is written for young women and teens, there are some things that are discussed (still discreetly) that may be exposure to conservative teens. On the flip side, there are also some things discussed that might help the conservative teen to avoid some traps (because conservative or not, there are some struggles that all girls face; it doesn’t matter how “sheltered” we’ve been from the world).

I was not disappointed in this book. The verses weren’t KJV like I prefer, but the truth is the truth. One could easily just use their own Bible if they have a preference of versions.

I thought that this book was amazing! It showed us lies that we may believe in ourselves and then knocks them down by saying what is actually true. An example they said that might apply to a lot of women is that when you feel uglt or fat. That is the lie that the satan can throw at us and we can believe it and act our lives on that lie. However, they told us that the truth is that "I am accepted in Christ(Ephesians 1:4-6)." I have learned so many things about myself because of this book. It tells in depth stories about women and their battle. It shows that I am not alone when facing satan's lies and that a lot ofwomen have trouble beliving the truth. This book was an easy read, but it challenged me to stop beliving in the lies and start believing in the truth. Overall, the book was awesome!

This book would have recieved 4 1/2 stars if not for Nancy's "women are for men. Period." I hate that. There is, TO A CERTAIN EXTENT, this truth in the bible, but our sole purpose in life(those of us that marry) is not to be a man's live-in-maid.

I'm reading this book for my Bible Study, and it has some good parts, but I actually don't like it at all. The authors didn't consider many aspects concerning personal aspects of the topics, and so far I've been very peeved with their insensitive logic.

Highly recommend for teens! My 13 year old & I got so much out of this book! We talked through each section. I wouldn't suggest handing this over without a plan to discuss. Communication on the issues discussed in this book is key!

I read this book when I was like 13-14 and honestly only remember it reinforcing things that teachers in my church taught me at the time, which mainly centered around a shame mentality about God and more rules and legalism. If I read the book now, I might have a better grasp on good points the author made, but I really don’t think it helped me at the time.

It was highly focused on sin management and blind submission. Life is much more than this.

As all things do, it did have some good points about how all things are not satanic, learning the consequences to your actions and doing things with moderation.

However, it can be inconsistent and a bit condescending on occasion. It makes fun of women for addictions, hurts and tendencies. I think we should be more sensitive to this.

On another note, if this causes you to grow closer to God, then by all means read it. There’s good in everything. Just be aware that we as humans need community and that pushing back on ideas and thinking for ourselves is how we grow.

I read this for a high school girl’s Bible study. I didn’t absolutely hate the book, I just could really only relate to a couple chapters. I feel like it was directed to a certain audience, and I am just not part of that audience. I also didn’t agree with some of the things the authors said. On the other hand, this book could be helpful if you know someone who is believing these lies, and what scripture you should share with them and how to love them. It also could be helpful in the future, making it easier to spot the lies in your own life and shut them down.

This is a really, really good book. Mom has the Lies Women Believe and really liked it, so she got this for me. It targets lies that young women really DO belive. I actually let my friend borrow it because I like it so much!

This is an excellent book! It applies to girls anywhere from age 9 to 29! Even if you think you believe Truth, this is a great book to get you thinking about cases where you really aren't. I definitely recommend this book!

Had some good points and perspectives and I'm sure it was written with the best intenions, a lot of the ideas would be beneficial to a lot of teenage girls' lives. At its best it was good, but at its worst, it was textbook misogyny. Out-dated - and not just in the trendy thoughtless way that modern society refers to some Christian values, truly outdated, insensitive, narrow-minded, twists scripture, reinforces teachings that are dubious at best (little to no biblical standing) and sexist at worst (e.g. condemns talking about menstruation). On the chapter on future, the authors write as if the 1940s held God's golden standard of women and feminism is humanity's bane: ruining families and depriving women of the freedom to be wives and mothers. I wouldn't want my daughters reading this because I wouldn't want them to have a male-centered worldview and think themselves inferior. My "favourite" quote:

"The woman was made from the man, made for the man, and given as God's gift to the man. Her relationship with her husband was the first and primary so here in which she was made to live and serve."

A perfect study book to go with the book itself. Each week was four days long, and four days were divided up into sections, Read, Respond and Write it Out. In these pages, you can pour your heart out, cry, write, work something out all in pen or pencil. Write it Out is where you can write down your prayers to God. I enjoyed this study very much and gathered so much from it, I'll go back to it again and again in the future.

So this book, let’s start with the positives. Some of the lies that they address are very accurate such as (I need a boyfriend )well done.

Other areas, are hit and miss other areas I have a theological difference. And their points in this book where it’s either borderline or, racist an out right xenophobic. they refer to yoga, white washed American yoga. as Sanskrit yoga,
First of all the levels, of wrong and that is layered, Then they referred to, yoga.as being evil because it’s connected to eastern religions. which is a whole other layer problematic.

Just note that it’s wrong and inappropriate

Some of the stories they share in the book have like teenagers being upset that they weren’t into his relationships in high school and getting ready to get married I wish I was kidding.

Consent is not mentioned at all in this book. Not a word not a blip nothing.

They also are super contradictory, they say don’t do yoga, do Pilates. even though Pilates, is quite literally based off of yoga.

They say meditation is evil. and dangerous, but yet suggest especially. in the study guide, that you meditate. technically, they don’t use that word but it’s the same context.

They make a big deal about how you should be a stay at home wife and mother. even though, this book is meant for teenagers.
They make, a lot of deal about grown-up, adult things. like marriage, kids, career, when this book is for teenagers.
Of course we have all the purity culture nonsense

And the homophobia.
There’s also the section, about how you shouldn’t break the law, you shouldn’t break any rules, you shouldn’t challenge authority or the status quo. Even though Jesus, literally did all of that.

Supposed to say I am more confused by reading this and then I am not it’s confusing it’s perplexing it makes no sense

But it’s a quick read
So there’s that

And they do really make good points and have a good conversation.
it’s clear that they care and they are trying which is more than a lot of people.
But anyway that’s my two cents

Oh and the study guide has these weird sections about how what you want your future husband and how you’re gonna be a good wife and mother again this is for teenagers that feels weird to me.

I cannot say that I agreed with 100% of the principles of this book. But overall, I think there were some really good points and perspectives. This book is tailored to middle and high school aged young women, mostly, but had some good reminders in there for me as well. The authors walked through 24 different lies that young women often fall prey to, spanning lies about faith, sexuality, media, relationships, and more. Using biblical truths to combat these lies, they point readers back to God through it all. Again, this is not to say I agreed with every single approach to each lie, but overall I think it's a great start at evaluating what we let fill our minds and how to turn back to Jesus no matter what we are telling ourselves, or allowing the world to tell us.

GREAT book if you have daughters of you own, work with girls in ministry, are a girl, etc, etc, etc!! I love how for every lie that the enemy tries to get us to believe, there is an applicable truth(s) in the Bible to combat it. I think anyone in youth ministry should take a chance to read this. Even if not every chapter is applicable to the girls you know, there is so much to glean and I really think most of it is applicable at some point in most young girl's lives. Perfect for a girl's Bible study.

Even though I haven't finshed readin this book. I love it because it tells the truth about the things your going through. I am also glad this book is for girls because most of us get tricked very easily and we are quick to believe things with out questioning it. This also tells you that it does not have the answer to everything and that it isn't going to give you some quick fix. Which I love that it says that because in order to fix the problems in our lives we have to devote some time to fix it.

I must admit, this is the first Girl book that I've ever read...and I really enjoyed it! This is definitely my go-to resource for young women, as it covers a multitiude of lies that the majority of young women are believing. The book wasn't fluffy or all about feeling good, but it is very biblical and offers the right solution, God's Word. The emphasis of the book is that the lies can only be overcome by the truth of God's Word. Very good!

This book is great for young women. It touches on modern issues that young women go through and problems that have always been an issue. It gives solutions and answers that are very helpful. This book is a book that you'll never read and then lose in a book pile somewhere, you'll want to refer too it all the time as do I.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was a quick read; more along the lines for a group Bible study that to be read alone. There were a lot of things for discussion which would have been more enjoyable if read with a group of young women. But there were many valuable truths in this book and it was good to be reminded of them.

This book touches on EVERY issue you could possibly want to bring up with your child. It was too mature for my daughter on many points because she is not yet a teenager. I read ahead and only choose the chapters that were important to us currently, we will use this book as a reference in the future.

Amazing Book. Recomended for EVERYONE. There are many lies we, young women tend to belive. But we have to realize that those lies are planted by Satan himself. And with God's help we can see past the lies and be set free. Because He IS the Truth, and the Truth can set us free.
