Dark Horse: Unfailing Power for Unlikely People

Rate this book
Do you ever feel unqualified? Unlikely to do something truly great for God? Unknown and insufficient?

That is where all dark horses start.

A dark horse is an underdog—someone no one even knows about, let alone expects to succeed—who makes a surprising win.

Scripture is full of dark horse stories—from Gideon to David to Esther to Hezekiah. Actually, you may not be familiar with Hezekiah, but his is a truly remarkable dark horse story. In this study, we take a closer look at Hezekiah’s life and learn how God empowers unlikely people to make a significant difference for Him.

With humor, transparency, and helpfully specific applications, Matt Chappell challenges you to live your own dark horse story—to refuse to settle for mediocrity when you could be extraordinary.

This is a great book, for what it is, about the life of Hezekiah. It is short, making it a simple read, and it is very practical. Written more to teens than adults, adults who read it will still find good information that is helpful for daily life.

There is something about the story of a less prominent individual who rises up to do incredible things that inspires us. Throughout the Bible God has stories of men and women who might be weak or unheard of but through His grace and might go on to do amazing things. Dark Horses shares the story of King Hezekiah's life despite the obstacles and difficulties that came - God's grace enables him to succeed. In this book Matt Chappell gives practical lessons that believers can learn and apply through the story of King Hezekiah. This is a fairly simple read but it does have some good applications. If anything, it might help readers desire to further invistage the life of Hezekiah and be encouraged by God's love for His children.

Not going to blow your mind with depth, but very practical and easy to apply truths from the life of Hezekiah.

Exceptional study of the life of King Hezekiah. Plain and practical, this book is an encouragement to keep the faith, to stay in the race, and to simply trust God. We all can benefit from this timely reminder that faithfully serving the Lord and depending on His promised leading and guiding is always the best choice. Regardless of your age, your past, or your ability, God wants to use you in great ways to accomplish great things for His glory. Think you can't? Well, friend, you may be the next "dark horse" candidate that God desires.

This was such a great and encouraging book. We are going through a transition right now and this book was such a blessing to me. My husband and I are planting a church in South Florida and it can be easy to feel like the task is too big for us. This book reminded me of how God can use anyone how makes themselves available to Him. I am looking forward to sharing this book with our new church and also having my 2 teenage daughters read it.

Excellent read! I especially enjoyed the fact that the author took an individual from the Bible that is less known than some other people in the Bible and really made his story come alive with lessons that are extremely applicable to Christians today. It is an extremely relevant book that I look forward to using as a tool to help the young people in my ministry.

Good book telling a story of an unlikely hero who served God despite overwhelming odds against him. Hezekiah is a Biblical persona with whom most of us are not too familiar, but Matt Chappell does a good job introducing and explaining Hezekiah and his victories for God in this book.
