Lottie Cannon is the super secret pen name of a self-published author currently writing contemporary romance. As a huge fan of the genre, Lottie wanted to take the plunge into the world of Young Adult fiction. The feels, the angst, the decisions, the turbulence of that tricky phase in life when you’re no longer a child, but not quite yet an adult, Lottie is excited to be working on her debut series: The Love Files. A collection of novella’s featuring seventeen-year-old Sofie and her quest to help those around her find love (despite her own love life being a complete disaster) you can expect laughs, tears, and a few surprises along the way.

Certain she’s a seventeen-year-old American girl stuck in a thirty-year-old English woman, Lottie is a lover of books, films, and TV series, and some of her favourites include: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek, The Hunger Games (both the books and film adaptations), Twilight (yes, she was a huge Twihard back in the day), The Craft, 10 Things I Hate About You … seriously, she could go on … and on!

When she’s not writing (or lost in a good book) Lottie can be found with two toddlers clinging to her legs while she tries to wash the laundry and prepare the dinner.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Two points…
1. I’d never before read from those authors.
2. I really enjoyed reading this anthology.

One Last Summer by Lottie Cannon
Regina is a city girl who went to spent 5 weeks in her father’s ranch in Arizona. Since her arrival, she felt rejected by her father. But spend her time with Tex, the sexy cowboy who works to her father, help her to forget her problems with her almost-boyfriend and her father’s absence.

I think this story is super cute. Although, being honest… I want more! I want to know what happened next with Regina and Tex. The one thing I hated –and I didn’t even understood– was Regina’s father’s attitude. He loved her, but didn’t showed it.

Life After Marriage by Sam Destiny
Olivia just divorced. With 35 years old and adolescents twins, she thinks is the end of her love life. When she meets Micah, their connection is instantaneous despite he is younger than her. But she don’t want to risk and start a new relationship.

I’ve always been a lover of second chances. And I think Olivia found hers. Because everyone deserve a second chance. Interesting story. I liked it!

Life and Death by C.J. Hart
Libby is the vampire hunter’s daughter. Her father warned her that she needed to keep distance with Brett. But it was too late. She was already in love with him.

Personally, was hard to me read this story. It’s not the kind of story I usually read, and I wanted to skip it and read the next. But I don’t wanted to cheat, so I read it and found it interesting.

The Secret to Balance by Michelle Irwin
Nate (you will not know that his name is Nate ‘til the end, so I think this is a little spoiler… lol.) broke up with his fiancée, quit to his job, and booked in a hotel beside the beach at Burleigh Heads, without knowing what would happen later. Every morning and every evening he used to see a surfer girl. Meanwhile, he wrote messages in a bottle with a mysterious woman.

This was one of my favorites. When I finished it, I was squealing like a crazy. I really loved it! It was amazing!

A Love Forever Unheard by Lady J.
Lachlan is the quiet, single doctor. When Adalaine falls off the shore, he became her hero. When they were face to face, it was love at first sight. But Lachlan found out something about her.

The only thing I’ll say is that I loved it. Very short, but very beautiful.

Camp Nightmare by Franny Marie
Six friends went camping in a cabin for a week. The crazy couple, Alessia and Lucas, the twins Shayla and Shawn, Kyanna and Mario. But things don’t go as planned.

And here’s where things get bloody. I need to say that I don’t like this kind of stories. But I liked it… ‘til the end. I didn’t liked the end. But I got it. Not everything needs to be HEA.

The Lies We Tell by Shelby Reeves
Kannon is a famous actor. Alicia is an aspiring country singer. When they meet, they don’t recognized each other. Then, they found out that they went to the same high school, where Kannon bullied her.

This story was super interesting. I liked it. But when I saw “The End (For Now...)” I really wanted to cry! It has a horrible cliffhanger. I want to read more… NOW!

Forgotten Piece of Memory by Jamie Summer
June is convinced by her older sister and her best friend to go to her first and last high school party.

Honestly, the cliffhanger was huge and I couldn’t understand the plot of the story. I need to read the next part for a better opinion.

I have to admit; I don’t read many anthologies. I usually can’t get into them, but when summer came calling gripped me. I started this book, and I had to finish it straight away. It drew me in and I was oblivious to what was going on around me, I looked up and it was 7am. When summer came calling has various storylines. From Cowboys, Divorcee’s, Vampire hunters & murders. There is something for everyone in this book. When summer came calling introduced me to a bunch of awesome authors that I haven’t read before. It left me with a list of new authors that I can’t wait to one click.

One last summer by Lottie Cannon

One last summer by Lottie Cannon is a cute summer read. I can honestly say that I was left wanting more! I wanted to see what happens between Regina and Tex. I found one last summer heartfelt. I liked that Regina gave her father a second chance and gave in to getting to know Tex.

Regina hasn’t had a relationship with her father for years. When her mother has to go away for work commitments, Regina is forced to spend six weeks with her estranged father…in the country. Even though Regina is hurt by her father’s actions, she secretly wanted a relationship with him. Over the six weeks on the ranch, Regina and Tex quickly become close friends.

Life After Marriage by Sam Destiny

I have to admit, I struggle to connect with second chance romance books. But I found Life After Marriage quite easy to connect with. Everyone deserves a second chance. I am glad Olivia found hers.

Olivia is a thirty five year old recent divorcee. She is also a mother to 13-year-old twins. She thinks her chance at love is over, that is until she meets Micah. Micah and Olivia have an instant connection; both are instantly attracted to one another. But will Olivia take the jump and give a relationship with Micah a chance.

Life and Death by C.J. Hart

Life and Death is unlike any book I have ever read, I really got into it. And I loved the action, Libby and Brett’s relationship & the fact that Libby is a strong character. She is strong and fierce; she could kick any vampire’s butts.

Libby is the daughter of a vampire hunter; she is strong and can take on anyone. Libby soon meets Brett and even though she has been warned off of dating him, she can’t help herself. They soon become a couple but will they be strong enough to deal with the people trying to break them.

The Secret to Balance by Michelle Irwin

After the break up of his engagement, Nate goes on an extended vacation. Nate is at a cross roads in his life, he doesn’t know what he wants to do. Whilst on vacation he spots a attractive woman surfing. Nate watches her surf daily. One day he finds a message in a bottle and he takes a leap and writes back. The owner of the message in a bottle is a mystery. But he has his hopes set on his surfer girl.

A Love Forever Unheard by Lady J.

A love forever unheard is a beautiful story. This is a short but sweet read.

Lachlan is extremely lonely. He has an awesome bunch of friends, he has a good job, as a doctor, but Lachlan wants to find the love of his life. When Lachlan sees’s Adelaine, he is mesmerized. Just when Lachlan is about to speak to the beautiful girl, disaster strikes! Adelaine falls off of the dock. Lachlan soon comes to her rescue and becomes Adelaine’s hero. And it is soon love at first site for Lachlan and Adelaine. But Lachlan is soon to discover something personal in Adelaine’s life. (I won’t spoil it and mention what it is)

Camp Nightmare by Franny Marie

I am going to be completely honest and admit that Camp Nightmare by Franny Marie, is one of my favorites in the ‘’When summer comes calling’’ Anthology. I have only ever read a handful of horror/murder books, so I didn’t know what to expect when I read the title of this book. I was expecting a HEA in this book, but there wasn’t one. And I still loved this book without the HEA. I loved how brutal and descriptive this book is. And it had me on the edge of my seat, as if I were watching a thriller/horror movie.

Six friends go on their annual camping trip. Kyanna, Mario, twins Shawn and Shayla & the crazy couple of the group – Lucas and Alessia. After the usual camp they go to is booked up, the group of friends decide to stay at a different camp. What is supposed to an awesome vacation turns out to be the vacation of horrors.

The Lies We Tell by Shelby Reeves

I really enjoyed this story. I wanted more! When I got to the end and it said the end for now. I can’t wait for more!

Kannon is a famous actor, but before he was an actor, he was a bully! Alicia is an aspiring country singer, but she is also a victim of Kannon’s bullying. When Kannon helps a drunk Alicia back to her room, he wasn’t expecting to feel anything towards her, yet alone like her! The next day when Alicia has thanked Kannon for helping her, she recognizes her former bully. Alicia had to live through daily taunts and pranks from Kannon, for years. Now that they are older and wiser, can Alicia move on from her hurtful past?

Forgotten Piece of Memory by Jamie Summer

Forgotten Piece of Memory is another of my favorites of this anthology. It gripped me from the start and it left me wanting more after the massive cliffhanger of an ending.

When June is convinced to go to a party by her best friend and her older sister, they weren’t prepared for what was going to happen. They weren’t expecting it and neither was I to be honest.

I cant wait for more of June’s story.

This is only my third anthology and I always struggle reviewing them so bare with me! A beautiful collection of short stories (for the majority) and enjoyed most. All for an amazing charity; Joyful Heart Foundation.

Review and breakdown of stories....

Lottie Cannon - Our Last Summer

Regina (reggae) meets Tex on a summer break visit to her estranged father at Home Farm. Her relationship with her father is a little icy but their journey although short is beautiful!
Lottie Cannon is an author I will definitely checking out after this short story!

--------------

Sam Destiny - Life After Marriage

Another author I've not had the pleasure of reading before but got an insight into on this short story. Micah helps Livy with her new life after divorce with her small piece of heaven. With a short space of time before her twin sons arrive, we see their relationship develop.

-------------

CJ Hart- Life and Death (An Abandoned Series Story)

Libby and Brett are from different lives but with the pressures of family trades and old fashioned attitudes...will this new relationship last?
I found this short story a little sketchy and not entirely fitting with the others but all in all still enjoyable!

-----------
Michelle Irwin a The Secret to Balance

I adored this story! All about a young man who packs it all in to head to Queensland to "get away from it all". Between messages in a bottle he finds someone he only ever adored from afar. Stunning short showing that sometimes you just need to take a chance and live a little!
--------------

Lady J - A love forever unheard

Really struggled with this story the most - just wasn't for me.

-----------
Franny Marie - Camp Nightmare

Horror filled short story! Gruesomely short and hilarious...just seemed a little odd with the other stories?!

------------

Shelby Reeves - The lies we tell

The cliffhanger on this story made me very nearly throw my kindle! But a beautiful story of past and present. I adored the characters and the dual perspectives. Definitely want to read more! I need more Kannon!

-------------------

Jamie Summer - Forgotten Piece of Memory

After having read 'Broken Jar of Memories' this was a brilliant filler and intro to the story withe serials never read before. Also a brilliant taster of what this amazing author is capable of. I adored it!

I really enjoyed this anthology by 8 talented writers, each one quite different from from the next. If you enjoy short stories then I can recommend this book to you. There are a variety of genres represented in this book so just be aware not all stories may be what you would normally read.

I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I hadn't read anything from these authors before so I found a few new authors I liked. I don't normally read paranormal vampire stories, but enjoyed Life & Death.

There's something for everyone the stories are quick and easy to read, A great read on a sunny or rainy afternoon.

When summer came calling - An anthology of short stories
One Last Summer by Lottie Cannon
This was super cute and left me with a bit of a – I want more. Regina the city girl meets Tex the Cowboy on her Dad’s ranch. It sounds like history might be repeating itself. Regina Dad comes across awkward around her and poor Tex is left to fill in for him. Somehow I don’t think he thinks of it as a problem. Tex and Gina seem to hit it off, but there definitely seems to be a story about Tex that we need to be told. Well written and would love to see the full story.
Life after marriage by Sam Destiny
Micah and Olivia – this one is really quick and shows the heartache and despair of a woman who has recently been divorced. Lucky for her, Micah has patience and faith to pull her through her despair. There were a few edits that were needed but overall this was really a good story
Life and Death by CJHart
I never read this as I am not a fan on vampire etc
The Secret to Balance by Michelle Irwin
Nate life is boring and he feels that something is missing. After breaking up with his best friend /fiancée he heads to the coast. Here is spots an attractive woman on the beach while she is surfing, there is something about her that keeps pulling him towards her. At the same time he has found a pen pal in the form of a bottle. He finally decides to take a chance in his life and go after the girl. I think this one is great in the sense it is about Nate taking charge of his life and not being what everybody else wants him to be.
A Love Forever Unheard by Lady J.
This one is sweet. Lachlan is a Doctor married to his career. He has wonderful friends who have all found their other half. He wonders whether he will ever be lucky enough to meet someone who will share his life. When he sees her, he is mesmerised. An accident happens and Lachlan is the hero. Could this be love at first sight. Lachlan soon discovers that Adelaine life is more than just a mystery and a journey that he wants to travel with her.
Camp Nightmare by Franny Marie
Wow I don’t usually do the horror books so this one was a surprise. Well written and very descriptive. Overall it was good but no HEA. If you like horror/murder then this one will be up your ally. 6 friends go away for their annual vacation but unfortunately have to go to a different camp site which leads to the house of horrors.
The Lies We Tell by Shelby Reeves
This one was a real cliff hanger and I would love to read the full book. Kannon, is a famous actor, who is tired of people wanting to use him for his fame. Alicia an aspiring country singer and usually does not like to stand out only when singing. Kannon, used to bully Alicia at school. A unexpected meeting and each thinks there is something familiar about each other but they only realise a bit too late where they know each other from. Can Kannon apologise enough and will Alicia forgive him. This one leaves you wanting to find out what happens. Well written and intriguing.
Forgotten Piece of Memory by Jamie Summer
This one was okay for me. I felt like there was a lot of repeating about the type of person June was. The story needed to move a bit more for me and I think we should have had more detail of the party and the characters. However saying this, the book did take a turn and once that happened the story really became interesting.

When Summer Came Calling; An Anthology
4 stars out of 5

This is a lovely collection of stories that show love in all its glory and in many different ways. It is something simple, yet so complicated. Some were a perfect little treat and yet some left me wanting more. In my opinion, just how I like my books. Short, sweet and spicy.

One Last Summer by Lottie Cannon
A beautiful story of a girl hesitant to join her father for the summer before she gets ready to go to college. They haven’t had the best of relationships and it looks like that won’t change after this year either. That is until Tex enters he scene and helps them learn about each other and themselves. A tale that even after years some people are able to change and accept you into their hearts.

Life After Marriage by Sam Destiny
This is a simple story that lets you see that marriage and eventually divorce does not deem you unworthy and that there is definitely a way back to life.

Life and Death by C.J. Hart
This was a pleasant surprise in this anthology about finding love in the most unexpected places. When a vampire hunter and a shapeshifter hunter from a rival family meet and fall in love, all bets are off. It has drama and fantasy, a perfect pairing.

The Secret to Balance by Michelle Irwin
You can’t ride the wave without first getting on the board. If you fall, you must get back up. This is how we meet Nate and subsequently Summer. Both are trying to heal and unbeknownst to them, they seeking someone to pick them back up.

A Love Forever Unheard by Lady J
This Scottish tale took me back to when summer meant beachside fires with my friends. As we age our relationships change and our desires as well. Lachlan just wants what his friends have, true love. As they do the summer ritual of sitting around a fire on the beach he may have found the one will give him that, proving you never know where you will find love.

Camp Nightmare by Franny Marie
Love comes in all forms. This story is about a man desperate to preserve his love, his campground, in any way possible. A classic short horror story if I have ever read one, this was a disturbing twist on the true love in summer tale.

The Lies We Tell by Shelby Reeves
I love a good cliffhanger because it gives me something to look forward to, this story is no exception. A classic story of will they or wont they, I look forward to finding out the answer. I hope Kannon can get the redemption he is looking for and that Alicia finds her confidence.

Forgotten Piece of Memory by Jamie Summer
If this story is any indication of what this author can do, then count me as a fan. In the short time that I had to read this, I was instantly caught up in the whirlwind of her talent. A beautifully detailed background of a girl that I can relate to and then a twist that I didn’t see coming. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of June’s story.

*Five Stars* (just for One Last Summer)

(I need this anthology.)

This review is just for: One Last Summer by Lottie Cannon - graciously received an ebook (story) from the author when I signed up for author's newsletter. I was seriously like "Why I haven't read this short little story earlier?" Really well written story and the writing just flowed.

This was such a cute little story. I usually don't like them because I always want more, which is the case with this one also, but it really was great story, except for the part where I want to know what happens next between Regina and Tex. Still it would be great to see this as a full length novel.

I loved this story - it was such a cute summer read (just in time here for the summer). It showed that one summer, if spent with right person, can change everything. I liked the hero and heroine: Regina and Tex. It was heartfelt, a little emotional to me at least, and quick read. I love that they became friends. It reminds me of "City meets Country" quote or something I heard somewhere. I didn't like Regina's father much or his attitude, but glad that she gave a second chance to try to have a relationship with him. Tex was amazing, really need to know more about him. They seem to hit it off from the beginning. Loved their friendship and chemistry. Especially the way he helped both of them to learn about each other and to accept each other for who they really are.

And at last loved that this story showed us that some people are able to change and learn how to accept other people into their hearts.
