Rate this book
The town of Ceredo, West Virginia was founded before the Civil War by northern abolitionists. The goal was to make a free labor society in the slave holding south. Once the Civil War began, the town was the target of Confederate forces in the area. The Fifth West Virginia Volunteer Infantry was formed to protect Ceredo and other loyal towns in the Ohio Valley. This book details the trials and tribulations of the 5th West Virginia infantry and the statehood movement in the area.

I have always loved history; it was the only class I ever cared about in school. My real joy and passion in life are to teach teenagers why history isn't boring and why history class is more than just listening to some guy ramble and doing worksheets. I also am very proud of being a West Virginian, so I wanted my first couple of works to focus on my home state. Besides teaching, I am a girls basketball coach, radio play by play announcer for the local high school football team and former rugger during my 20s. I am married with three wonderful kids.
