A Secret Baby Sports Romance

I’m having that cocky jock’s baby, but he won’t have me.

Gibson Evans is the best college football quarterback in the country. He’s tall, broad, tattooed, and so incredibly handsome.

And he got me pregnant. It was supposed to be just one night, but a broken condom changed all of our plans forever.

People treat him like a hero, but I think he’s a total prick. Gibson gets whatever he wants, and now suddenly he wants me.

But I have enough to deal with. I have to stop daydreaming about his hands between my thighs and concentrate on having this baby while still managing to graduate on time.

He wants to make a deal. If I promise to spend time with him, he’ll help me with my final biology research. That means an entire semester of studying Gibson’s body.

I’m not sure I can do this. One second I can’t stand to be around him, and the next I’m touching his ripped muscles and trying to suppress my excitement.

I’m terrified he’ll ruin everything if I let this become more than just work.

Long is incredibly steamy and features some very dirty language. It’s only recommended for audiences 18+.

Long is a standalone, full-length novel. No cliffhanger. Guaranteed HEA.

Cute. Ass. Read. Predictable. As. Fuck.

Long was about the cutest relationship ever. Gibson and Avery were beyond adorable. Their chemistry was on fire. I love their little smutty scenes. I loved them together and even apart. Not a lot of twists or turns in this story. For the few that were there, damn.

First, Avery has terrible fucking parents. I get that they are highly religious but who the fuck says those things to their daughter when she just told you the biggest thing ever?! I would never turn away my kid of force them to give up the baby because she basically screwed over herself with God because she's a damn sinner. Fuck you awful parents. I hope they never see the baby.

Besides her parents, well Gibson didn't have luck family wise either. God, these two needed each other more than ever. Of course, he makes terrible decisions every now and then but he figured out to make a life for him, Avery, and their unborn child. Which by the way... Jax is an adorable name for a kid. I definitely agree with it because one of my dogs is named Jax.

After that the ending was beyond predictable. I probably would've been more excited that he got drafted into the Redskins instead of the Eagles.. but I can live. Overall, it was a cute and easy read.

I've read a couple of BB Hammel books and its official. This author is not for me. The covers are awesome (they really are pure eye candy!) and the blurbs are written perfectly to draw you in and peak your interest but the story lacks real build up. The characters don't go through any kind of growth or change which sucks because with a bit of tweaking BB Hammel could have 4-5 star reads.

I need more character development and some real chemistry between the MCs and I never did feel that here.

Safety: No Om/Ow drama, no cheating, no virgins and a lot of push and pull before they get a sweet HEA. We get an adorable epilogue but its only a fee months down the road and the issues with her judgmental parents is never addressed.

3.5/5 stars.

As opposed to the previous football romance book I read, I actually enjoyed this for the most part. But, my goddamn brain is kind of mixing all three football romance books up in my mind so this review is going to be relatively short. (I can only blame myself for reading three in a row.)
Firstly, and, I don’t mean to sound like an asshole but I am so deal. Gibson Evans. Gibson. Is that really a first name? Yes, you ignorant prick. Sorry. But why couldn’t he be Evan Gibson? I just didn’t see him as a Gibson.
Now, for my actually review.

There were two problems I had with this (and one slight other thing that some will hate and some will enjoy) and they were:

1. The writing
2. Gibson’s rather idiotic decision

1. If you read my reviews, I think you’d notice I never really talk about the writing. I’d quicker talk English grammar to an alien than I would writing style to my fellow readers. BUT, this time, I am. I didn’t like the phrasing, sometimes they said things that didn’t make sense and sometimes it was kind of weird.

For example: we got a paragraph on how she peed. I don’t think anyone wants a vivid description of another person peeing. But, that’s what happened. And- the clean freak that I am- was extremely disgusted when she didn’t even bother washing her damn hands. Sure, she was worried about whether or not she was pregnant but she could take a minute and wash her hands.

Sometimes, they asked questions even though they were just answered. Like –and I’m making this up myself- one person says “hey, I’m going to the shower. I’ll be done soon.”
And, then the other person replies with “So you’re going to the shower now?”

It happened quite a bit.

2. Gibson wanted to take responsibility for the baby but didn’t have any money to financially support it. So, he made a stupid decision- which, unrealistically he managed to get out of- and got the money he didn’t. Then regretted it and tried to give it back?? I was annoyed he was being an idiot in the first place but, at the same time, I can understand why. But, Avery had a crappy reaction to it and it blew up in his face.

I admired Gibson for taking responsibility for the pregnancy. He was really cool about it and wanted to do anything to support Avery and the baby. He was also quite funny when he wasn’t being an ass. I liked Avery too. She didn’t take crap from him.

Now, what I mentioned earlier that some people would enjoy and some wouldn’t was this: once they started fucking, it’s pretty much all they did. (Don’t say I spoiled, it’s an NA romance, you knew it was coming.) They were all over each other.

Finally, the ending. While the ending was satisfactory and enjoyable, it felt rushed. The book took place through the earlier stages of the pregnancy and then the last chapter was post-pregnancy. (I guess that’s kind of a spoiler, whoops.) We didn’t get to see anything like them learning how to be parents, Avery reconciling with her parents who had earlier wanted nothing to do with her when they found out she was pregnant and we didn’t really meet the kid. I don’t know about you but I wanted that. That’s what it was missing.

However, if you enjoy your sports romances I still think you should check this out.

This was a cute read. I enjoyed it. It was predictable af but still cute.

The heroine, Avery, was annoying af at first. But as soon as she came to her senses it was smooth sailing from there.

And I loved Gibson. Naturally. He was sweet and sincere. He took everything that was thrown at him perfectly and handled it so well.

There was really no story build up and no story line. To be totally honest. But the romance was still cute enough I think for 4 stars.

And let me just mention the smut real quick. It was hOt and steamy! Loved it!

Absolutely terrible. The constant cock talking and "dirty talk" in a budding relationship was disgusting. I am all for dirty talk, but you don't just jump into it. And seriously, every time he thought or talked to her he brought up sex in the most crass way. I had to skip over all the sex scenes because they were written terribly.
As someone who dealt with a university pregnancy, I was vastly disappointed in this book! Good thing it was free on amazon!

This is a interesting and heartwarming book this is. This is about two young people and the problems they face. The story is about Gibson Evans, one of the best collage football players and Avery Carpenter who got pregnant from him and he tries to the best of his ability to look after Avery and the unborn baby. In this story you will find drama, suspense, intrigue, mafia loan sharks, a young man trying to be responsible, a unplanned pregnancy, domineering parents, financial problems, romance and tender loving erotic scenes. The story-line was well thought out and written. The characters are well developed and realistic with their feelings, desires and needs. This is a good Bad Boy Romance and I recommend this book to people that like to read a extremely good well written book.

Oh, I hate putting a book on the DNF shelf (did not finish)...but at that 33% mark, I had to.

The voices of the characters were fun. The way they spoke was friendly and calm and I enjoyed it. What I didn't enjoy was the constant repetition on what seemed like every page I read. Gibson was a cocky jock and a jerk and so full of himself...And she...(I cannot remember her name right now)...well he liked her but she was annoying...and they kept saying those things just over and over and over. For a few pages, it felt like I had never flipped over to a new page at all.

It got so redundant, I couldn't get into the story, though I liked the premise...a footballer baby daddy. Also, the language warning...yeah. Take heed in that one. Definitely something I had Captain America admonishing, "LANGUAGE!" in my head often. LoL.

And one tip: When reading this at work, beware of co-workers reading over your shoulder...because they will abscond with your kindle and read it to everyone else in the vicinity. UGH.

I'm not even going to give this stars...I'm just sorry I couldn't read more.

This book is a bit of a long shot. It's not bad, but it's not good either. Honestly it felt like it was trying to hard to be something it's not.

You have the star football player, whose a player, with a bad childhood, but you don't really learn a lot about him. Or Avery. You know them, but you never get to know them. And the mafia twist? It's not that I think it was a bad move, but nothing really came from it story wise. They came. They went. The end

And the sex scenes were kind of bad. It's almost exactly the same thing every time, including the dirty talk that was trying way too hard. Instead of being hot and dirty, it was extremely repetitive and came across as a bad porno script. Not good when all you can think of is get it over with.

La típica historia de un flechazo entre una linda nerd y un jugador (en más de un sentido). La complica que su amorío de una noche termina en embarazo. Me gusta que él se haga cargo y esté apoyándola desde el día uno, sobre todo frente a la actitud de sus padres...

A one-night stand turned mayhem with a SMOKIN’ FOOTBALL PLAYER!!!.

~~~I received an ARC of Long: A Secret Baby Sports Romance by B. B. Hamel for an honest review!~~~
This is the thirteenth book of B.B. Hamel's that I have received as an ARC and reviewed, and she never disappoints!!! Although I have to say that though I enjoyed this story, there were some things that left me wondering and I'd say it wasn't my absolute favorite of her books.
Gibson is the star quarterback in his senior year of college with hopes of the NFL Draft. He stems from a really rough upbringing and finding football was his savior in many ways. At college, he is treated like a god on campus, women loved him and as one stated, “If eyes could fuck, I would want Gibson’s eyes to get me pregnant.” Then at the last party before the semester stated he zeroes in on Avery and says this outstanding pickup line, “I don’t know you.” But when Gibson is determined, he gets what he wants, and he has his eyes set on Avery!!!
Avery is a Biology Major also in her senior year with aspirations of going into sports medicine and research. Avery goes to one last party with her best friend/roommate. She never guessed that this one party would to a life altering one, one that will not only impact her but it will also Gibson!!!!
I love the chemistry between Avery and Gibson, the atmosphere is so charged!! When Avery turns out to be pregnant she is panicked and confused. How do you tell a guy you were with for one night that he is going to be a father? Gibson was knocked off his rocker with the news yet determined to be a better father than his own was to him. Can Avery look past all her preconceived notions about jocks and give Gibson a fighting chance? Can Gibson win Avery over despite the fact that she seems to want to keep things platonic?
As another reviewer wrote, beating me to the punch, “Unlike all the other books by this author this one seemed unfinished with too much unanswered for me:
How did her parents react once the baby came? – and - Why would the mafia just back off so simply?” I was so curious about her parents’ reaction after how her mother treated her on the phone. And the mafia, that situation was just odd.
The sex scenes were well done, thoroughly explained so you felt you were there watching them go. If mature scenes are not your thing, then don't read any of Ms Hamel’s books!!! I will recommend this book to anyone who loves a good sexually charged romance with an added twist of danger, and I look forward to the next book that B.B. Hamel writes!!!
BB Hamel is one of my favorite authors because she knows how to write a book with all the elements to keep a person reading, guessing, and wanting more!!! She has not disappointed me yet with her books, and I really don’t think she ever will. I am always looking for her next book. “Long: Secret Baby Sports Romance” is another one of her FABULOUS works of ART!!! This is a book that has any kind of twist you could want in a book. You will not be disappointed.
Gibson Evans is a man who knows what he wants and he goes for it. That is one reason why he is the best quarterback in college football. He is so incredibly handsome that he is admired for his broad tattooed body. Football season getting ready to start up and Gibson knows there can’t be no distractions, and then he sees Avery. He decides then that he has to have one night with her…and he gets his one night with her.
Avery Carpenter is a biology geek who is an all-around good girl. She is smart, always studying, shy and very dependable. She and friend Harper go to a party where they come across Gibson, and Avery has no idea who he is. Her friend Harper thinks this is funny because everybody is supposed to know that Gibson is a Greek God who plays football. So Harper helps them along and Avery leaves with Gibson, not knowing that this one night would change their lives forever.
Now facing a pregnancy Avery has choices to make. But her parents are making the situation any easier for her or Gibson. Even though she thinks Gibson is a cocky jerk, he surprises her in many different ways.
Gibson decides to make a deal with Avery so that they can spend more time together. He tells her that if she will spend time with him, he will help her with her Biology final. Avery isn’t sure this is a good idea, because she isn’t sure she can keep her hands off of him.
Will Gibson and Avery work through their problems and deal with her pregnancy? Will Gibson and Avery get their HEA? Or will her parents ruin it all for them?
No spoilers. ARC free book given in exchange for an honest review.
A secret baby sports romance by BB Hamel? Count me in.
Our H is Gibson Evans, A Jock. Our h is Avery Carpenter, a Nerd.
Avery is a Nerd. She is a biology major wanting to get into sports medicine. While out with her best friend at a party, she catches that attention of Gibson. The two get close with some dancing and even closer in Gibson's truck. They part ways with Avery giving Gibson her number but not hearing from him for a month. That is until Avery shows up at his apartment looking for him.
Gibson is the star quarterback with NFL scouts watching him. He came from nothing with alcoholic parents and found football as a way to get out of the house. Luckily for him, he was good enough at it to go to college. While he was attracted to Avery and enjoyed their time together, he needed to focus on football. He was doing fine with that until he finds out Avery needs to speak with him.
Avery and Gibson meet up one night where she tells him that their one night resulted in a pregnancy. Gibson was determined to be there for his child and Avery. Avery struggled with some decisions that Gibson made that could jeopardize more then just his football career.
Avery and Gibson were complete and total opposites but it turned out to be exactly what the other one needed. I love all books by this author but this one is easily my #1 favorite. I would love to read more secret baby sports books by her.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
arc copy for an honest review.
This is a college late teen romance, he is on a sponsorship football course and she is doing a biology course linked to sports. Avery has a strict catholic upbringing so finding herself unexpectedly pregnant is not good news, determined to make it work with or without the father. Gideon is from parents who are no good drunks, he is determined to do right by his own child. This is a story that happens all to often in real life, but its how they deal with it that is a bit different. I loved this couple and their friends, they work together and support each other. A story on how to work through something unexpected but life changing in the right way, not racing into the obvious but taking time to think. Contains hot, down and dirty sex scenes with filthy language. Insight into the training monotony for footballers as well as the constraints put on them when doing scholarships in college helps make this interesting. This is a fairly lighthearted read, not as dark as some of BB's books and all though there is a threat there is no violence. Very enjoyable.
Gibson Evans is star quarterback for Mater Dei and all-round bad boy too. For Gibson, everything comes easily but that doesn't mean work hard to be where he's at either. At a party Gibson spots Avery Carpenter across the room knowing she's a good girl type. Avery can't believe that Gibson Evans is giving her the time of day. Avery thought that she'd have a one night stand but never thought she'd end up pregnant. Avery knows that the right thing to do is tell Gibson. Avery doesn't expect anything from Gibson but he surprises her. Will love bloom between Gibson and Avery? Can Gibson really be there for Avery? Will Avery be brave enough to go thru with the pregnancy? Your answers await you in Long~A Secret Baby Sports Romance.
This story really surprised me. I expected bad boy to be a real asshole yet that isn't what I got. Avery was such a strong female character completely unexpected too. This book was character driven from beginning to end. Definitely loving B.B. Hamel's writing style and storytelling skills too.
Pretty good
I actually really enjoyed this book but there was a few things that bothered me. I felt the book was too rushed and didn't have alot of details. There was hardly any talk about the baby (besides Gibson saying he wanted to take care of it) and I wish the ending was longer! And a few questions were left unanswered. That being said... I really liked both characters. They really seemed to have chemistry and I liked that Gibson wasn't seeing anyone else immediately before or after Avery. Gibson was an all around good guy trying to do the right thing but a DIRTY mouth. My god. This book was so steamy and sexy. Woo. It was good. Lol. I was really hoping for a longer final chapter/epilogue but at least there was a happy ending!
I skimmed over half this book just to get it over with. If I had to read dripping wet pussy and hard cock ONE MORE TIME I was gonna blow my brains out.
It was not my cup of tea. No character development, just all sex and dirty talking. The mob aspect also didn't fit in at all to me. I won't be reading the next book in this series.
Somewhere between 2 and 3, but I'm being generous and rounding up.
Plot-wise, it's got some pretty common themes. BMOC football star and beautiful but quiet nerdy type. Pregnancy from hook-up brings them together. Romance and HEA result. There are a few unique points (the whole mob angle) but we'll get to that.
I enjoyed Avery's voice a lot more than I did Gibson's. Avery seemed pretty sensible about a lot of things, while Gibson, though majoring in finance, carrying a solid GPA, and a senior in a major university, still thought he had no options for providing for the baby besides going to the mob?? I know they kept talking about how rough his background was, and how he didn't trust anyone, and so on. But that still seems like a dramatic step to take. So, liking one voice a lot better than the other, I tended to be a little more reluctant to pick up the book when I was facing one of Gibson's chapters.
It wasn't quite an insta-love story. Definitely insta-lust. And that felt like what most of their relationship was based on. Gibson and Avery both talked about the times when they hung out and laughed and felt relaxed and comfortable. But unfortunately, we as readers didn't get as much of that. We got a lot more detail of their sexual escapades. And yes, steamier romances have their places, but at the same time, it's nice seeing the opposites actually attract, you know? Even outside of the bedroom. I love a good enemies-to-lovers or opposites-attract romance mostly because of the banter. That felt missing here. So, I guess not much plot, but plenty of steam and a bit of romance?
The ending felt super rushed to me. After all of Gibson's back and forth about what he was going to do, it ended with kinda a fizzle. And we didn't get closure a number of things too - like Avery's relationship with her parents (who were pretty horrible). No mention after the last phone call with her mom.
And on a personal, can't-suspend-belief moment, Avery's paper was published in Science??? I've had research published. I've had friends published. Do you know what it takes to be published in that particular journal?????? A heck of a lot more than monitoring one athlete through one season! I just couldn't step back from that one. She had no significant sample size, no long-term testing, no real variable, was monitoring his blood pressure and vitals but not documenting his workouts, meals, anything. She had Hynes there too in the morning, but she was still just monitoring Gibson's vitals. Not even a sample size of 2! She wasn't monitoring Gibson during regular workouts, or even right after workouts. Half the time, she met him after he'd showered, changed, and made his way back home! I'd been taking it with a grain of salt, since most readers don't care about the methodology, so of course the author wouldn't go into all the details. But it seemed like Avery did testing when it suited the plot and no other time. Hamel could have just left it as "my research was published" and I'd've been able to roll with it a lot more easily. But Science?? Ok, /rant.
Overall, if you're looking for an easy and relatively mindless read, this is a good one - especially if you want one on the steamier side (Hamel's works tend toward that end of the spectrum). Alternating 1st person POV. No cheating, no OTT angst or stupid lack-of-communication issues. No OW/OM drama (though brief appearance and insecurity about an ex-girlfriend). HEA, although a little rushed.
I am not usually the type to leave bad reviews.
The copy of Long by B.B Hamel I received was a bunch of short stories by the author. I tried to power through and read the entire kindle file for the book, but I couldn't make it passed the second book. Maybe it was because I didn't want to waste my time reading another story that had characters who held zero substance. Each of the characters that I encountered while reading this "book" of shorts were very flat characters. A lot of the dialogue is centered around sex and unneeded innuendos. When I chose to read a book that is considered to be an adult romance, I expect to find writing that is clear, not completely focused on sex, and advances the plot. The writing style this author chose to use for these shorts did not advance the plot, it wasn't clear at times, and it was nearly always centered around sex. The male characters focus too much on their genitals and whether or not they will be getting their d***s wet by which ever female character has peeked their interest. They are more concerned with getting said woman into their bed than they are with getting to know her. The women are unable to focus on their current task on hand and instead are plagued with thoughts of their lover and getting him into bed, or on how hot he makes them. There wasn't a single chapter where the characters weren't thinking about each other or sex. I would have liked to see more of an advancement in the plot with each character and each obstacle that was brought up. I would have liked to see each relationship between the characters become more developed, and I would have also liked to see more baby centered chapters/scenes in the first book. There was absolutely no point for the mafia reference in the first short because it didn't add as much to the plot as the author thought. The mafia coming into play and then the resolution of it, left the reader thinking "Okay, so why did he ask them for money in the first place? He's back to square one." A lot of the plots were stereotypical and lacking.
Each of these shorts are obviously in their rough draft stage. They should not have been published and put out there for the world to read. Developmentally the stories were not ready for that. In the future, the writer should do her research better on the life of college athletes at popular football schools, further research on the mafia and how their systems really work, and she should have multiple people reader over/ edit her work before she publishes it. There are workshops throughout most countries that provide novice writers the chance to get their work read and critiqued in a safe environment.
These stories were not fully developed and needed a lot more work.
I received an ARC for an honest review.
This "secret baby romance" wasn't what I was expecting. I liked that the pregnancy happens immediately, and then the story unfolds as these two college students try to do the right thing by their child. I loved that Gibson stepped up and took responsibility without questioning Avery, and that Avery couldn't care less that he was a college football God and didn't expect or want anything from him other than letting him know that she was pregnant. Of course, there are some insecurities on both their parts and trust issues that keep the couple apart (as in any chick lit story!), but despite some bad decisions -- for the right reasons -- on Gibson's part, these two manage to find their HEA. Another great read by B.B. Hamel.
If you’re looking for a sexy, easy read then ‘Long’ may be just the book for you. The story itself, while only really being surface deep, is actually quite sweet. Gibson is a guy that knows what he wants and he isn’t afraid to work for it. Work for it. Not bully and cajole for it, like some Alpha male types. Avery is quiet, bookish and a little wild. Watching them dance around one another until they figure things out is actually quite fun as they’re a really cute couple, when all is said and done. The mafia aspect of the storyline didn’t really appeal to me but it’s brief and since it leaves no real lasting consequences, I was happy to overlook it. Hopefully, if you appreciate a good story - regardless of how detailed it is - you’ll find you enjoy ‘Long,’ just as I did.
I enjoyed the story for this book, but I took away a star for two reasons:
1. I think the main characters had some interesting back stories regarding their parents, and I think this could have been fleshed out more.
2. It bordered on a little too much for me with regards to the dirty talk . Those weren't my cup of tea, but some people might not have a problem with it.
I also think it got wrapped up a little too neatly, although I don't really have a problem with that per se, it's just that it seemed too easy and therefore there was never really any climactic part of the story where I was thinking "what is going to happen?".
4 stars.
Ever read a book, get into it, and then realize you already read the book about a year or two ago? Yeah, that happened to me here. I didn't realize I'd already read this one, until I got part of the way in.
The characters and their chemistry are cute, but for some reason I forgot about this one. LOL. It's fairly predictable, and the cover is amazing. Still, worth a look... I just hope you don't forget it like I did at first.
This was free from amazon and I figured meh, why not try it but oh boy.
I like sports romances, mainly hockey ones but the american football ones are usually pretty okay too, this however was not, in my opinion.
The character are in college but it feels like they could still be in high school and feel as real as a piece of cardboard unfortunately.
Sadly this is going to be a DNF for me at about halfway trough the story.
This book was okay. Not great, not fantastic, but it was grammatically well written. The banter of the characters in regular conversation was witty and fun to follow along with, but the intimate scenes seemed to be straight from a low-budget adult film. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my books steamy with the best of them, however Long just seemed too forced, with not enough genuine emotion in the mix.
Overall though, if you're looking for a fast burn, steamy sports romance, give this one a try.
