I'd have to say "Black00" is one of the best suspense thrillers that I've read in a long time. Laton reminded me of Lisbeth Salander of The Girl with A Dragon Tattoo. The action is fast going, and I couldn't put down the book until the end.

I really liked Laton ... she starts emotionally broken (she still runs away of the demons of her own past); but as the plot advances, she develops into what a strong female lead should be—tough without forgoing emotion.Throughout the book I kept guessing who antagonist was, but I didn't see the ending coming. Laton's race to save Sabin—and later on to protect him—is gripping. Meeting up with the group of survivors added a new level to the mystery.

Unusual characters and riveting story. I'd recommend "Black00" to any thriller fan, even if you don’t usually read science-fiction. At the end of the story, Ms. Daia leaves you wanting more! I'm looking forward for the next book in series.

Review: Black00 by Andreea Daia.---3.5★'s---01/03/2017

Black00 is an original adventure full of memorable characters that will leave the reader eager to follow the story to the end. The story had a clever plot (but in need of some editing), convincing creative characters, interesting information and a cohesive plausible account of political, social and technological world three hundred years into the future. The story is set in a world where trans-human increase escalation is the rule where a mysterious black death mist called; “Black00” has reshaped society. I think it will fascinate the reader as a technical perception offering educational knowledge of what the future may hold.

Looking back six years the main character Laton was kidnapped and used as a test-subject at a scientific research facility and had to kill to escape and survive. She has a young brother to take care of because the research team killed her parents. Soon she learns that they have kidnapped her brother for ransom and kept as a victim along with many other young children. Laton is scared that her brother will not survive. Her worst nightmare has come true…

When the kidnappers get in touch with her they set the ransom for the return of her brother so high knowing she could never get the amount they wanted. They knew her only option would be to surrender herself back to the research facility. First she decides to go to the authorities and assumes they weren’t putting the case as a high priority and was taking their time investigating. She knew of only one way to save her brother and that was to go back to the facility. As far as she knew nobody made it through the toxic tests, everyone died, except her and a couple other trans-humans who escaped.

However, Laton considers other options with the help of three of her friends but she also knows one of them is working for the researchers. She goes on making plans to find safety in the dense forest, save her brother and at the same time she was trying to figure out who the spy was. As more time went by she was learning more facts about why she and two other trans-humans didn’t die like everyone else when they went through the death mist experiments. Laton’s intuition was telling her to hold back information about what she was figuring out without telling her friends. The story goes forward with scientific data and events of how she was going to get her brother back. Then the adventurous future warfare erupts….

Interesting

Saw this book as a special offer on Facebook. I enjoy thrillers and I enjoy sci-fi so I hoped a combination of the two would work for me. Not sure it did though.
The start was a little confusing lots of people and new concepts introduced very quickly - I know you have to do that in a book but my first thoughts were confusion and a loss of interest. But once I'd got to grips with a couple of the concepts it made more sense and I was actually involved in the story.
Somewhat frustrating with the odd grammatical and spelling error - my pet annoyance in a book.
On the whole an interesting book and can see where book 2 might go. I think it can go alone though.

Literally, there are black clouds with black hole type properties called Black00 killing people. Laton is caught between two warring scientific militia labs conducting experiments when she volunteers herself as a guinea pig to save her kidnapped brother. Ianth, Chensun, and embedded nanites accompany her on a quest to save her brother and other children from harm. The plot is a mixture of technology, thriller, and science fiction genres.
