In this first issue we get to see how Amanda Waller recruited Rick Flag.

I really like the art. Harley's hair resembles the one in the movie version, but, fortunately, she is spared of those shorts and high-heeled boots. It's a mystery to me why a woman who fights a lot would go for no material on her legs.
Joining Harley on the Squad's mission, are Deadshot and Captain Boomerang. While it's good to see them again, the truth is I read the SS comics because of Harley Quinn.

All in all, I'm looking forward to the Rebirth SS series.

I enjoyed the setup for the ongoing series and this rebirth one shot deliveries an interesting Rick Flagg. This should of been the story for the movie version instead of Incubus, who looked terrible. This series has potential and looks like it will deliver, I'm really interested in suicide squad and Red Hood at this stage. These anti hero stories are really working for me.

i have said this before i don't like too much politics in my comics , i mean i spending good money to read 24 pages and when those 24 pages have political chatter it really saddens me and feels like a waste of my investment . That said i think with what's been going around with the Suicide squad movie i believe it fit perfectly and explained why Suicide can't be your joy-filled , humourous ride Like Marvel movie , it focussed on why Suicide squad despite the comedic influences on it's story is actually one of the most dark and disturbing tale of Criminals being deprived of their basic human rights and forced to do missions and risk their life , The story in this focussed mainly on how Amanda Waller Recruited Rick Flag , giving Rick Flag a new origin story that in my opinion fits much better than the previous one

special mention to the artists to finally draw Obama on the pages of DC comics & how come Amanda Waller is slim in the Batman rebirth titles but overweight in Suicide squad , another case of timeline mess

Okay, 2 things:

1: Harley Quinn is cute, and mostly clothed so I'm assuming the new movies are based from the Quinn before the rebirth? That would make sense, I'm new to DC comic books so I probably sound like an idiot to many people right now.

Secondly, LOL. This was great, like it a lot.

First of all, can we take a moment to appreciate the beautiful cover??

I reeeeeeally liked the setup for this series! It was short and quick.
Excited to see the other members being introduced and joining the squad. I've always been a HUGE FAN!!
And Harley is such a BADASS (As always!)

Interesting start up to the series! Unlike most of these reviews, I happened to enjoy the new Suicide Squad movie, even though I know the source material fairly well. I'm excited for our set up, and the new character designs look sick! Very excited for this next launch of Suicide Squad indeed.

Ich stieß rein zufällig auf diesen Comic, nachdem ich mehrere Male darüber gestolpert bin. Als auf der Rückseite auch noch die magischen Worte "über 200 Seiten" standen, dachte ich 'Ich kaufe es jetzt einfach', und bin sehr froh darüber! Denn 'Heldengeschichten' sind eine Sache, die Abenteuer der Schurken eine ganz Andere.

Der Einstieg in die Geschehnisse gelang mir relativ schnell, trotz der Tatsache, dass ich nicht viel über die jeweiligen Akteure wusste. Aber schnell fand ich mich zurecht bei der Zusammenstellung einer Gruppe, die sich Suicide Squad nennen würde und für einen bestimmten Zweck, nämlich die USA zu retten, 'angeheuert' wurde. Wenn ich über die Moral des Ganzen nachdenken würde, hätte ich nur halb so viel Spaß an der Lektüre gehabt. Daher habe ich es von Anfang an unterlassen; das sollten übrigens alle potenziellen Leser meiner Meinung nach ebenfalls tun.

Ich fand es beim Lesen spannend zu erkennen, dass die Sucide Squad nicht nur eine Bande von verrückten Bösewichten ist, die zum Spaß tötet und für Unruhe sorgt, sondern dass auch sie ihre Grenzen und Ängste haben. Dadurch dass dieser Band der Auftakt der Suicide Squad Rebirth - Reihe ist, wurde auch die Vergangenheit der jeweiligen Charaktere kurz dargestellt. Das fand ich in Großen und Ganzen sinnvoll, es verwirrte mich bei der Lektüre jedoch ein wenig, da sie zwischen die einzelnen Comics eingebaut wurden. Vielleicht wäre es weniger verwirrend wenn es am Anfang oder am Ende gebündelt erzählt worden wäre, aber auf diese Art erschien es mir als sehr konfus.

Am meisten angetan haben es mir Harley Quinn und Katana, obwohl ich Enchantress und Boomerang auch sehr cool finde. Welche Antihelden noch in diesem Band zu finden sind, müsst ihr selbst herausfinden, ich möchte nicht alles verraten, um die Spannung noch beizubehalten.

Der Humor der jeweiligen Figuren führte nicht selten dazu, dass ich laut auflachen musste, weil es in den jeweiligen Situationen sowas von fehl am Platz war. Es hat riesigen Spaß gemacht die Schurken mit ihrem jeweiligen Hintergrund kennen zu lernen und sie in Aktion zu erleben! Ich muss unbedingt mehr über die jeweiligen Figuren erfahren!

Suicide Squad Rebirth 1: Die Stählerne Gruft von Rob Williams konnte mich trotz des verwirrenden Aufbaus überzeugen! Es hat riesigen Spaß gemacht die Suicide Squad kennen zu lernen, ihre jeweiligen 'Spezialitäten' im Kampf zu verfolgen und den fantastischen Humor, der jedes Mal sowas von unangebracht war, genießen zu dürfen. Das wird definitiv nicht die letzte Comic - Sammlung zu dieser witzigen Bande von Wahnsinnigen sein, die ich lesen werde und kann es jedem wärmstens empfehlen, der auf Antihelden steht. Deswegen bewerte ich es mit Tauchgenuss und freue mich jetzt schon auf die Fortsetzung.

There are two things that made me interested in this series. The 1st of those things is that Jim Lee, my all-time favorite comic artist, is one of the two artists for this series. The 2nd thing is that Harley Quinn is a main character. The premise of Suicide Squad is a cool one, but often I don't really care about the villains that they put on the team so I end up losing interest very quickly. This series has shown Katana and Killer Croc in some promo material and both are on the cover of this issue. It is too bad that the cover is the only place you see them because they are nowhere else in this issue. I like both of those characters. Deadshot is on the team as has been the case in pretty much all of the Suicide Squad books. I really don't care much for that character. After a couple of issues, he becomes lame pretty quickly. He's best used in small doses scattered pretty far apart. The same can be said for Captain Boomerang even though I do like him a little more than Deadshot. Rick Flagg is also in the book. Don't really know much about the character and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if he was never used in another comic. Waller is around still being the character everyone loves to hate. Pretty much the only interesting character in the issue is Harley.

The only thing I knew about writer Rob Williams before reading this issue was that he wrote for a Martian Manhunter series I've never read. As far as I know, I've never read anything from the guy. After reading this issue, I won't be expecting a lot from his writing. I know that a single issue is hard to judge someone's writing skills on, but so far, it seems like his writing is on par with that of most Michael Bay movies. I actually think that is what DC is going for with series. They want it to be like a fun, mindless, action-packed summer blockbuster movie. Rob Williams delivers on the mindless and action packed, but has to figure out the fun part to keep me reading this series. The writing gets 3 stars.

As I said at the beginning, Jim Lee is one of the artists for this series. However, he is not the artist for this issue. Philip Tan is the artist for this one. His art isn't horrible, but isn't great either. It hovers in the average to good range. The outlines and faces of characters look pretty good, but something is amiss with his detail work. It seems like he doesn't fully understand where detail lines should be and just puts some random scratches down so that there is some sort of mark there. Hell, maybe it is not even his fault. Maybe the inker did those marks. Either way it takes away from the attractiveness of the art. His art gets 3 stars.

This is a 3 star overall book. I'll pick up the Jim Lee issue simple because his art is breathtaking. I don't even have to read the script to enjoy his art. I won't read it if the writing doesn't get any better than it is now. I'll read through the first arc before decided whether to cut back to only the Jim Lee issues, but as of right now, I'm still up in the air about this one and can't really recommend it to anyone else.

* It was... okay. Not really anything of substance. Same ol' Waller recruiting Flagg to keep an eye on the squad.
* It's tagged for racism because Captain Boomerang is a racist. Don't know how anyone missed that part of the bio when they started stanning for him after the Suicide Squad movie. (He sings a racist song about Mongolians and Genghis Khan)
* A really thin team for Suicide Squad. Just Harley, Deadshot, and Boomerang to take on every super soldier made from a bomb? I knew they said they wanted to thin out the ranks, but that's a little much.
* Obama was in this, so that was an immediate +1 star because. wow they really put Obama in this comic.
* Harley was just. awfully drawn. She's cross-eyed a lot and there's not much to her in this comic- it's actually kinda annoying
* Waller was really well-utilized in this, though, and she's back to being her original self, instead of the lightwashed, thinner version of what they wanted her to be, so I'll give it a whole 3 stars

All right. What a good start for the Rebirth of the Suicide Squad. I think DC got this one right. A good beginning and a perfect starting point for new readers and new fans from via the movie (which as a comic book junkie I enjoyed. Seen it twice within a week). My only concern is that Harley, Capt. Boomerang, and Deadshot will prove to be too popular and be involved in every mission and never get killed. With a title like this, you got to figure the odds of surviving many missions would be slime to none. I hope they do not turn this into a JLA for bad guys, they need to stay true to the Dirty Dozen theme.

2.5 - Suicide Squad couldn’t help but paint by the numbers in their debut with the eyes of movie-goers potentially fixated on the comic. It’s more or less a retread of the film, but in 20 pages and much higher quality (not hard to achieve).

I’d typically expect this to stick with crowd-pleasing popcorn plots, but Rob Williams is one of my favorite writers and he does transgressive characters very well.

A strong start for setting up the framework of the Squad. This issue showcases Waller's ruthless, yet patriotic streak. Her involvement with Taskforce X has always been an intriguing element in the comics. There are also some wonderfully funny pop culture references peppered in that keeps the writing fresh & the humor going. I'm interested to see where this goes.
