"The problem with infinite magical power is, it doesn’t exist. And the problem with limited magical power? It’s usually more trouble than it’s worth. I’d tapped my power more in the past three weeks than the rest of my life put together, and what had it gotten me? I was in more danger now than I’d ever been ..." In this eagerly-anticipated sequel to SCARY COOL, Zara and Lance flee Spellhaven with the Council hot on their trail. Zara longs to go home--but when she learns who she really is, 'home' takes on a whole new meaning.Book 3 in Diane Farr's critically-acclaimed series, "The Spellspinners." Book 1, Wicked Cool; Book 2, Scary Cool
Disclaimer... Diane Farr is my critique partner, and she is invaluable to my writing. 2nd disclaimer, I love young adult paranormal fiction.
I enjoyed the series because of the solid worldbuilding--Diane created a world within a world, the same way that Rowling did with Hogwarts and the wizarding world, but this series is more lighthearted.
The characters are rounded, and the conflicts the major characters face are string enough to sustain three books.
Enjoyable and highly recommended if you have read the first two books.
Zara and Lance have escaped from the council and aren't sure what to do next except to get Zara's power stone. When they get to her house they find someone there that explains where Zara came from but in an unbelievable way. Now they just have to convince the Council that they are telling the truth and Zara and her friends shouldn't be killed. Of course the other problem is Amber who totally thought she was going to get to make a baby with Lance and is not pleased that won't be happening.
This was a fairly satisfying ending to a series but it wasn't perfect. I would have liked to have known more about Zara'a parents and about what actually happens in Spellhaven on a daily basis. My biggest issue though, was the relationship between Zara and Lance. They had the wholesoul thing going and when they touched each other there seemed to be this euphoric feeling of unity... but when they weren't touching I never got the feeling that they liked each other much. Sure they told you that their feelings went deeper but you'd have to take their word for it. Overall a very entertaining story.
