CLAMP originally began in 1989 as a twelve-member dōjinshi circle, but by 1990, the circle had diminished from twelve to seven. Of the remaining seven, Tamayo Akiyama, Sei Nanao, and Leeza Sei left the group during the production of the RG Veda manga. Other former members of CLAMP also included Soushi Hishika, O-Kyon, Kazue Nakamori, Yuzuru Inoue and Shinya Ōmi. Currently, there are four members in the group.

In 2004, CLAMP's 15th anniversary as a mangaka group, the members changed their names from Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, and Satsuki Igarashi to Ageha Ohkawa, Mokona, Tsubaki Nekoi and Satsuki Igarashi (her name is pronounced the same, but written with different characters) respectively. The August 2004 issue of Newtype USA, a magazine specializing in events of the anime and manga subcultures, reported that the members of CLAMP simply wanted to try out new names. In a later interview with Ohkawa, it was revealed that initially Mokona wanted to drop her surname because it sounded too immature for her liking, while Nekoi disliked people commenting that her name was the same as Mick Jagger's. Ohkawa and Igarashi, wanting to go with the flow of Nekoi's and Mokona's name changes, changed their names as well.

In 2006, they made their first USA public debut at Anime Expo in Anaheim, California. They were well received at the convention, with 6,000 fans in attendance at their panel.

I was familiar with Cardcaptor Sakura because it has a TV adaptation that was released in the 90's. I used to watch the said anime when I was a kid but I wasn't able to watch the whole series. This new season in the famous Japanese manga is a treat for fans of the said manga and anime. Although the story and the characters could be a bit childish, it is just some of the reasons why there are a lot of people who like it.

This is the sequel to Sakura Card Captor, when Sakura Kinomoto start junior high scholl. She is excited about the new school, Dad Fujitaka is clueless, big brother Toya enjoy teasing her, and Tomoyo is her best friend. Uh, and Kero wants sweets. So, no changes in that front.

Well, Syoran is back .

tumblr_owp7ah_Xl_XE1t1sp1fo1_1280

o-kay.

And the S Cards kind of get erased.

image

The story start with a recap of the previous story, Sakura, the cards, main character and Clow. And the Card problems ahead all over again.

An guess what - Syoran and Eriol are mysterious and secretive. Again.

And a new key, a new scepter- of dreams.

My problem: So BORING. The art is really confusing with the simple lines trying to convect action. I think that the anime made a much better work showing the Fantasy, and the Magic. And gosh the colors. I miss the colors. This was not for me. #sorrynotsorry.

Maybe is for superfans of the manga .

---------------

Me aburrió.

I'm mad at CLAMP. There are around 4-5 of their stories that have been hanging over a cliff for years (decades) or are actually in need of a continuation and they decide to take one of their complete stories, with a very nice, round ending and make a sequel that they'll probably abandon as soon as something sparkly catches their eye.

And yet here I am.

Cause this is still CLAMP and I love them and Card Captor Sakura is one of my favorites.

Goddamnit.

So yes, this is - as expected - very very cute and fluffy (and also full of flowers). It was like coming back to an old, beloved story. Sakura and Tomoyo are still the very best of friends, Kero-chan is still always hunting for food, Eriol remains mysterious, Syaoran continues to believe all the stories Yamazaki tells him and Touya and Yukito are still b(est)f(riend)s. Yue remains the prettiest.
They even tried to go back to their original art style, which I appreciate a lot.

I do think the story so far mostly lives off the nostalgic factor and the love people have for the original, because so far nothing really super new and exciting has happened. We know the story already: Some mysterious figure. There is something going on with the cards, so Sakura has to learn to deal. Weird things pop up and get turned (back) into new cards by a new wand.
It's not a bad thing, because no one will read this manga to get some gritty story about saving the world from a bloodthirsty enemy.
Still hope CLAMP are going to switch it up a bit in the future. Surprise me!

Okay, I know I'm a generation late from this hype. This is what everyone was watching when I was a kid but I had an obsession for a long-haired heroine, so I never gave this one a chance. But, I have to see this one today!

I came across an online article about this series being gay and I was like, “What?! Really?!” I didn't know! And I realized that even if I saw it when I was a kid, I wouldn’t get it too, and it would still be new information. Or, I dunno. Considering, I just also learned about queer materials back in 2019 I guess, in my literature subject! How airheaded am I? But it's really nice opening your eyes to possibilities. There are endless.

Anyway, it's a fun experience! I love just how magical this series is. The card-capturing is entertaining and interesting! I'm kind of wary against the people in England and Syaoran (was it?) though. But this Clear Card arc is really pumping me up! The premise revolves around Sakura, getting dreams about the cards, and a mysterious hooded persona. When she woke up, her cards became empty. She began facing mysterious events that will be soon captured in her new transparent cards.

I had no idea about the plot of this one, so everything I read will be new information acquired! I just know that there are cards and cute costumes! And I just realized that this is not the first volume of the original series, so, I'll stop with this arc first!

I'm kind of hesitant if should keep reading though. I also found out people are dissing this for not outing gay couples or something. But yea, maybe, I guess I'll be my own judge for that.

There is a continuation story for Sakura, Syaoran & Co. and I'm just finding about it now!

This first volume is nice and happy... and with nothing unexpected happening. Just an intro saying "everyone is here and happy"... (except for Rika and her uncomfortable Relationship with a Professor-Arc. Poor Rika, hope she is fine and far, far away from that horrible adult)
Maybe the Story will start in the next one.

I'm fangirling slightly! The manga kept the classic aesthetic... however, I somehow feel the story empty of something and I can't put my finger on it. Like a fanfiction. I think I feel a disconnection between the story and the characters.
I guess the feeling will fade when we dive into the story and understand it further, like what happened with Tsubasa Chronicles, when the first episodes felt even like fanservice.
Ugh! It's frustrating! I want to enjoy it to the fullest!!

I’ve just finished the first 8 chapters of the new series! I have to say that it seems amazing! It has mystery, love, friendship, kawaii cuteness and magic. I love the fact that there are new especial cards with exciting new powers. I can’t wait to read the next chapters and watch the tv show.
The first manga starts when Sakura Kinomoto is going to high school. We get to see Shaoran, Tomoyo and the gang again. It feels like no time has passed and the warm and fuzzy feeling that SCC leaves you with, is still there.

As a girl born in the 90s, Cardcaptor Sakura (in Greek translated as 'The Adventures of Niki' for some weird reason) was one of my favourite TV shows, long before my fascination with Japanese culture seriously began. I would eagerly wake up at 8 every weekend morning to catch the show on TV and I was more than excited when I discovered there was a manga version I could read to my heart's content.

Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card is sort of the sequel to the original Cardcaptor Sakura story that swept so many girls around the globe off their feet, as it starts where the original manga left off. It is utterly nostalgic and heartwarming to return to Sakura's world, excited to see my childhood favourite characters in new adventures. CLAMP's art is mesmerising as always, but since a few years have passed since the original maga finished, their art is much more polished, while it retains all those characteristics that make CLAMP's art unique. The story itself is very interesting and I'm very much looking forward to see where this new adventure will lead.

I definitely recommend this volume to all fans of Cardcaptor Sakura, although I am certain they are all already very excited about this release. For new readers, perhaps it would be best to start with the original series first, since events that happened there are constantly mentioned throughout this volume and it would be very confusing.

More Cardcaptor Sakura! Saw the anime previous to this, but it's still good. Got to love the beautiful art from Clamp. I want to try out the cheesecake recipe.

The one thing is I'm not usually a fan of the Kodansha in-house translations. It's all fine, but it kind of feels like this could have used just a little more editing just to smooth out the phrasing a little bit.

*I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. This is an honest review.*

I am very, very happy that Cardcaptor Sakura is continuing. It’s one of my favorite mangas — the characters are just so sweet and wonderful, so I was thrilled to see volume one of the new series — Clear Card — available as to-read on Netgalley.

Sakura is growing up and is starting middle school know. Syaoran has returned from China and will join her! But, it’s not all a perfect paradise; Sakura has started to have dreams about the cards turning clear, and there’s a mysterious figure who seems to be at the center of it. Lots of intrigue, and I’m especially interested to see where this arc goes.

The illustrations are lovely, as always, and the story overall is easy to follow. I like that CLAMP doesn’t waste time in getting to the heart of the story. Also, it looks like there are more cards to be captured! This was a solid re-start of the series, as it re-introduces pretty much all the characters, giving the reader a quick refresher as to who’s who and what their relationship is with Sakura and all that. I loved Syaoran’s return seems to be bittersweet, since he’s acting strange with this clear card stuff, so there’s definitely more than meets the eye to all this.

If you’re new to the series, I highly recommend reading the Cardcaptor Sakura series first; however, I don’t think you necessarily NEED it to understand the story, but you might appreciate the characters more. I’m super excited to read volume 2!

I still feel the same as I did when I first read this new series. One: why is this needed? I do enjoy seeing the characters from CCS again, a bit older and in a more modern time. The cards are freaking cool, but man, I miss the Sakura cards. These steampunk kind of cards are cool, tho.

It's great seeing all the characters again! I'm worried about what's going on behind-the-scenes, but this makes for a more dramatic continuation with volume 2! Also, that CLAMP went back to their original style for Clear Card is GREAT! (Not that the other styles were bad!!)

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.

If you know me a little you will know that when it comes to manga CLAMP has written my favorites. While I have a high preference for Tsubasa and XXX Holic, I have always found Cardcaptor Sakura to be such a cute read. So when I saw this on Netgalley I had to go for it.

If you are unfamilar with Cardcaptor Sakura, in it Sakura is selected to become the cardcaptor after she found a book in her dad’s study. The person that has to catch the magical glow cards. They have powers and without Sakura they would run amok through her town. This is obviously a very short version as the original manga has 12 volumes, divided into two arcs. I would not suggest starting this new series before having read the other two as you do need to know very well who and what role they play before heading into this one.

This new story starts a bit after the ending of the twelfth volume where Sakura starts middle school. All seems to be going well for her when her crush Syoaran returns from Hong Kong to stay in her town for good and she is able to be around all her friends. Even having phone calls with those in England. But then she starts to have dreams and her glow cards turn out clear.

As soon as I started this story I was giddy. The art is solid and cute as the original story. It gave me the same feeling as the original story did and yet we can see that the characters are slowly growing up a bit. I mean Eriol did imply some things with that phone call, haha. Or maybe that is my dirty mind? Almost all of the familiar characters make an appearance without it feeling too crowded. I was laughing from page one. Sakura and her brother still banter happily away. Kero is still funny and always hungry. Tomoyo is still obsessed with cute Sakura. But they are so much more comfortable around each other. You can see their friendship. Their bonds shining through. I think that is what I always loved best about this series.

I am incredibly curious to see how this new plot will go. My biggest worry is that it is going to rehash some things from the earlier two arcs with these clear cards and the new key. But for now it is off to a good start as it makes me very curious.

I think my biggest and only complaint about this volume is that we just do not get enough Sakura and Syaoran alone time. I need more alone time between these two. There needs to some serious developing of their relationship in this story. Fingers crossed this is all still coming.

I am a huge fan of anything Clamp puts out. I remember watching the original Cardcaptors series when it was on t.v., though admittedly the dub was a bit comical. *lol* Suffice it to say, when I saw that there would be a new anime (already watching it on Crunchyroll!) and then that this volume was available on NetGalley, I leaped at the chance to review it.

Since it's been awhile since I've read the earlier books in the series, I was glad there was a recap of characters for the Clow Card arc and the Sakura Card arc. Visually I could identify them, but names and bios were a big help. This definitely isn't a book you're going to be able to get into unless you've read the previous arcs, even with this catch-up portion. The funniest part of the intro is that Cerberus is "narrating" and making sure you know what's up! If you know anything about this little guy, you'll be able to picture the scene more accurately and laugh your head off.

The personalities of the main characters are all back and very similar to their past selves, but you can see how they've evolved a bit. They're still children, after all, so I don't expect to see them all grown up. Sakura, Tomoyo, and Syaron are entering their first year of middle school, which makes them around twelve years old. Clamp's art style, their subtle shifts of mood and more, enable the reader to see different emotions and really feel them: Sakura's joy, Syaron's concern, and Tomoyo's unbridled enjoyment of life and her best friend.

The plot starts out very similar to the previous arcs, in that the cards have something happen to them (they appear, Sakura needs to change them from Clow to Sakura cards, etc.), so I knew a bit about where things would go. However, this arc seems like it might be a bit more emotional veering toward dark. By the end of volume one it's clear that this enemy is more dangerous than before and now Sakura doesn't even have her cards to back her up.

There's also secret keeping going on from two of Sakura's allies and that felt like a foreboding moment, when we realize that something is going on behind the scenes and that it will definitely impact Sakura more directly before long.

There's such a cliffhanger at the end that I really wish, at times like this, that I could read the original language so I could pick up the currently published Japanese editions!

-ARC kindly offered by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review-

I have always LOVED all the CLAMP works. Especially Rayearth and Card Captor Sakura. They have a magnificent style and create really imaginative and intricate stories with courageous and magical characters. When I learned that there would be the sequel of the adventures of Sakura Kinomoto I literally jumped for joy despite my 26 years. I was pleased to see Sakura, Tomoyo, Kero-chan, not to mention Syaoran! He was one of my childhood loves, unforgettable and perfect.

Our protagonists are at the beginning of middle school, Syaoran returns from China to be with Sakura but strange things start to happen too. After Clow Reed it was thought to have reached a kind of peace, but here new cards appear. Similar to the previous ones in terms of powers but transparent. It seems that the only one to perceive it is only Sakura who also makes strange dreams about clocks and a mysterious wizard. What will be her mission this time? What's more, Syaoran seems to hide something.

You do not find out very much in this first volume. It shows more the beginning of the new school year, the return of the handsome chinese boy and the appearance of the first mysterious cards. Things will become more interesting in the next few volumes.

There is no lack of my beloved scenes between Sakura and Syaoran that no matter how platonic I've always softened. Not to mention the friendship between Sakura, Tomoyo and Kero-chan. The young Kinomoto has always been one of the characters of the manga that I have most appreciated for her vitality and courage. Usually I do not go to appreciate very much the elementary kids as protagonists but she was and still is an exception to the rule.

Welcome back Sakura and co.!

I had a weird obsession with the tv show growing up. It played on the inimitable Kid’s WB ‘back in the day’. Batman Begins, Max Steel, Yu-Gi-Oh, and of course, Pokemon. Hell, even Static Shock was pretty good. I know I am probably missing a couple.
I even went so far as to create fansites, such as I could, with our home computer. It was a bizzare, really. We didn’t even get the full series here in America; it was very choppy and uneven. I had a bit of a crush on Sakura I admit.
I was about 10 years old or so.
And, yes, had.
Although Syaoran Li was also a favorite. He was an entitled jerk--for a time. He struggled to adjust as second fiddle to Sakura. A more interesting character than the wire-to-wire hero(ine). I still think that way about media I follow.
This takes place after all of the original drama which I admit I did not see through. Obviously, our heroes prevailed.
This manga is a perfect, ditzy escapist read that I needed it to be. A very cute and insular
world where danger is never quite believed but the imagination is strong which makes up for it on a purely aesthetic level. It does take me back to those years as a kid and I am a horrible sucker for nostalgia. An idiosyncratic type, but nostalgia all the same.
This one is merely a table setter for the next entries and really not much happens. You can read it in the time it would take for a single episode to air. I really like the ‘breathers’ as I call them that are pure sugar mainlined into your vein.

When you're a character in a CLAMP story, your life can't stay normal for too long! Sakura learns that her magical cards aren't finished yet as they reset themselves after a nightmare. Now she's back in the capturing game in this first volume of a new series.

Being honest, I tend to read CLAMP for their art more than their story. The collective of artists is by far one of the most beautiful in the field of comics, and anything they draw immediately grabs my attention. What I found interesting about this one is that the art is really easy to follow--sometimes CLAMP will sacrifice clarity for a stunning visual. A lot of it looks like traditional shojo, then the magic elements show up and CLAMP pulls out all the stops.

This is a cute series so far and I'm definitely up for reading more.

We're just a couple of days from the new anime starting and I'm super psyched! I was even more excited when I found out that there's a manga for the new anime. The art is still as adorable as ever and I felt myself smiling at the feeling of nostalgia that overcame me as I read. I'm really going to enjoy seeing Sakura grow through middle school and become the amazing woman I know she will be. I can't wait to see the outfits Tomoyo designs and how Li/Eriol and all the rest will play into this.

I'm not really sure why Kero is calling Yukito "Yukibunny", I don't recall him ever doing that in the original series. I'm also curious to see if the true nature of Yukito and Toya's relationship will be revealed.
