Perfect for reluctant readers and word lovers alike, bestselling author Dan Gutman’s insanely popular My Weird School series has something for everyone. Don’t forget to join A.J. and the gang on the rest of their hilarious adventures.
The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
The main character in this story was A.J and mostly this story took place at school. In this story A.J wanted to always to be rewarded when he did something correct. A skateboarding principal offers unusual incentives to his students to motivate them to learn more. I enjoyed the book it was very interesting. Mr. Klutz is nuts is about a principal that does crazy things. I liked this book because it made me laugh. My favorite part was when the principal slipped on the pencil and the next day he had a cane. I would recommend this book to kids who like silly books. It was very funny. I enjoyed it because in the story a young kid name A.J. learned a lesson not to run your mouth so much. And A.J. and few of A.J. friends learned that you don't always have to get something if you do the right thing they also learned you should not get people to do crazy and harmful things just so you can do what your suppose to do when your suppose to do it. I learned not to always expect something when I do something good even though it would be nice. I think this book really made me think about times when I wanted every when I did something correct I learned that just need to do the right thing all the time and when you least expect it something great will happen to you. I have one more thing to say Mr.Klutz is really nuts !!!
The first book in the series was kind of cute, but this second book is just kind of nuts. The principal does wackier and wackier things as incentives to get the students to study. Finally, the kids use child psychology (so to speak) to figure out that the principal is doing these wacky and dangerous stunts because he has personal problems. All he really wants is a hug.
The ending is kind of weird, because they get him to refrain from bungee jumping off the school, but still they get rewarded with a trip to an amusement park.

My daughter is reading this for her book report so I figured I better read it and make sure I can fully assist :)
These came out after I was at this level so I actually had missed them. What a cute short story (with vocab!) that goes through a number of different situations!
Read it during lunch, now I'm ready to talk to the girl abt her report! :D
Mr. Klutz is the school principal and he likes to incentivize the students by doing crazy things - dressing up in a turkey costume while pogoing down Main Street, letting the kids shoot ping-pong balls at him, and other ridiculous stunts. He even injures himself trying to climb the school flagpole to do a recitation at the top! When he says he will bungee jump off the school roof if they read for a million minutes with their parents, they decide that things have gone too far and they need to stage an intervention, for safety's sake. They decide to read for a million minutes if he agrees NOT to jump. Fun and clever and a great upside-down look at school life.
The book was very very very good but the principle Is really weird he is kinda mean to his students but why would he be mean to his students.a lot of the kids are kinda weird the school is really really nice just wait a tall you here about the school teacher he is a hoot.
The social teacher in this class is really rood he gives people f for nothing like why would he give someone a f for nothing you can’t do that he try’s to fail one of the kids you can’t fail, someone for nothing it’s not right like what I’m really really sorry they should bring him to the school board
Re-read in 2020 as part of my nostalgia-fest in times of boredom.
Note that, for the record, Mr. Klutz is a little bit nuts. No Miss Daisy pretending for him!
And now, for the quotes:
"'She must have buns of steel!' Ryan whispered. 'She's like Superman.'" -- ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Oh, so that's what's super about Superman.
"'Maybe Mr. Klutz escaped from a home for the criminally insane and he's just pretending to be a principal.'" -- excuse me, but home for the criminally insane? Nowadays we call them facilities.
This is a decent early chapter book series. Each book has a bit of humor and a relatable setting and characters that make them easy for students to engage with.
I've never met a grade school principal like this, but I have met klutzy teachers. That part and the good-heartedness behind Mr. Klutz's extreme (somewhat) school-wide challenges ring true. A fun book for the early grades.
Mr. Klutz is nuts is so funny. I loved when he kissed the pig and thought about bringing a moon bounce balloon home. (Alice's review and rating. Kids love these books.)
This book has been rated by my 5 year old son. We both loved all of the silly incentives Mr. Klutz offered the students to complete math problems, spelling words, and reading minutes.
Dan Gutman is genuinely funny in this book about an adrenaline junkie principal who does stunts as an incentive to get kids to do schoolwork. The main character is believably a second-grader. The humor builds on itself throughout the book. Can't wait until the librarian one,Mrs. Roopy Is Loopy!, is returned to the library, so I can read it!
Genre: realistic fiction Unique feature: Lots of hilarious homonyms that kept the children laughing out loud. For example, the main character getting frustrated that his teacher is saying :"that's the last straw" because there were PLENTY of straws left.
Light, funny, and not too taxing for the younger set. It's got all the hallmarks of a classic series: repeating plots, characters, and even zingers. I sincerely hope it becomes impossible to pass up for new readers who are then forced to learn to read better just to catch up.
This story was about a boy who hat school. His name is A.J. But his teacher send him to principal office. when he went to principal Klutz office. He was hangout upside down. Very nice story!
