A curvy archaeologist with the find of a lifetime + a firefighter dragon shifter battling his instincts + a priceless artifact coveted by a ruthless rival = one blazing hot adventure!
When curvy American archaeologist Virginia Jones finds the lost burial mound of an ancient Anglo-Saxon king near the English city of Brighton, she uncovers much more than she expected. Unearthing a priceless artifact summons an evil dragon who’ll stop at nothing to claim the treasure for his own hoard. Trapped in a burning building by a beast that ought to be imaginary, Virginia's only hope is to call for emergency…
Dai Drake has an unusual occupation for a dragon shifter — he’s a firefighter, part of an elite all-shifter crew. When he rescues Virginia from the blaze, he instantly recognizes her as his one true mate. But how can he tell her what she is, when the first dragon she ever met was a greedy, bloodthirsty monster?
As Virginia and Dai work together to save the artifact from falling into the wrong claws, the spark between them quickly grows to an inferno. But will his secret make their relationship go up in smoke?
This is a sizzling hot, standalone BBW dragon shifter romance. No cliffhangers!
Zoe Chant loves writing paranormal romance. Over a cup of tea (or something stronger) she whips up sexy tales of hunky heroes and adventurous heroines to tantalize and satisfy her readers. Sizzling hot romance, no cliffhangers!
While series should ideally be read in order, all of Zoe’s books are standalones and can be read in any order. This includes books within series.
I hate targeted Facebook ads because they are making me seem like all I want to do is read trashy romance and while that is partially true, I have successfully kept my book addiction off Facebook for years and I don't want them to blend now!
That being said...

Onto the Actual Review
This book is a lovely little escape. It's short. Cheesy. Over the top. Fluffy as a blow dried unicorn. And smutty. AKA Everything That I Want From Life.
3.5 Stars for Firefighter Dragon I love shifter romances so when I saw this book I knew I had to read it. This is a sexy introduction to a new series and new-to-me author.
What did I like? -I enjoyed the creativity of the story. I’ve read other shifter romances but I’ve never come across firefighter dragons. After reading the synopsis I found it ironic that a dragon would be putting out fires, so I had to give this book a chance. I’m glad I did because this was fun and exciting. This was the first book I read that dealt with dragons love of treasure and how their treasure horde is used to distinguish their dominance, so I liked that aspect of the dragon culture. This series stands out from other shifter series I’ve read. -I also liked the unique mix of the shifters. The elite all-shifter crew consists of a Pegasus, griffin, sea dragon and other mythical creatures, which I’ve haven’t seen in paranormal series. -The story was the perfect mix of romance, suspense and action.
What didn’t I like? -I wish the story was longer to develop the characters more. I liked Virginia and Dai but I felt there needed to be more of an insight to who they really are. -This was my first audiobook from narrator Lucy Rivers and I thought her performance was ok. I disliked some of her voices. I think Dai’s accent was wrong. I probably would enjoy this book better if I read it.
Despite my issues I did like the story. I enjoyed the authors creativity and new take on shifter romances. I have the next books in the series and I can’t wait to read them.
So i have to say this isn't my normal "go to" read.. that's for sure. That's not to say it wasn't a good book! Just not my normal go-to.
To start off the book, FMC Virgina calls emergency as she's being attacked / followed by an evil dragon. She had found a long-lost artifact that apparently summoned the evil dragon who wants this artifact for his own. Emergency sends over a firefighter by the name of Dai, who is also a dragon... but a good one. He's part of an "elite" shifter crew. As Dai rescues an unconscious Virginia from the fire caused by the evil dragon, he quickly feels that she is his one true mate. A good portion of the book follows their story and his ... "dishonesty"... as he doesn't quite tell her what he is right away. The evil dragon also doesn't give up.
I listened to the audiobook of this, and Dai and the rest of the crew have fun spicy accents, haha. That was my favorite part.
The writing style was okay. I got through the book pretty quickly, and it was decent. I'mjust not sure that I would want to read the rest of the series or not.
ABSOLUTELY CAPTIVATING !!! Title: Firefighter Dragon Series: Fire & Rescue Shifters Author: Zoe Chant Designation: Book 1 of Series, Novella Length(123 pages), Standalone Paranormal Romance, No Cliffhanger, HEA Reading Platform: Kindle Edition My Rating: Five Captivating Stars***** Oh my! I love this book! I adore paranormal romance and completely infatuated with dragon shifters so when I get both in one great read, I'm in heaven! And no one does it better than Zoe Chant! I've been a diehard fan for several years and can truthfully say, I've never read a single one of her books I didn't enjoy. I know before I read the first line that I'm guaranteed a wonderful adventure and Firefighter Dragon was no exception! Once I started reading, I could not stop. I was riveted to my seat, white knuckling my ereader with my heart fluttering wildly in my chest as the hours flew as quickly as the pages... and it was FABULOUS! When Zoe Chant puts pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard in this modern day world of technology), it's nothing short of magical. Chant is an incredibly gifted storyteller, talented wordsmith, and true master of her trade. She excels at creating unique storylines with vividly depicted worlds and beautifully detailed descriptions, then populating her creations with intriguing, larger-than-life characters who will surely capture your imagination along with your heart. I'm not a professional reviewer but I am a retired English/Literature teacher who tends to be quite selective of the authors I choose to follow, and can truthfully say, if you've never read a Zoe Chant book, you've missed a real treat! If you enjoy well-written paranormal/fantasy/supernatural romance, then I'm confident you'll love her books as much as I do. But let's talk details so you'll understand why I love this story so much.
Firefighter Dragon is an imaginative, fast-paced, easy-to-follow, novella-length (approximately 120 pages), standalone paranormal romance liberally laced with elements of fantasy. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue is smart, well-executed, at times hilarious, and flows effortlessly. It is exceptionally well-crafted, developed and edited as are all of Chant's books. I also feel compelled to mention, Chant's books have beautiful covers and artwork which always seem to capture the spirit of the story and its characters, and I truly love that about her work. But I think my favorite component of every Chant story is the characters she creates to populate her fascinating worlds. They are captivating, intriguing, engaging, and no matter how fantastical their alter form may be, whether it be shifter or creature of myth and legend, they are still relatable to the reader with the same challenges and heartaches we experience in our daily lives. I was immediately smitten with the two protagonists of this story, beautiful American archaeologist Virginia James, and handsome Welsh dragon shifter and firefighter for the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service Daifydd 'Dai' Drake. Dai and Virginia are absolutely adorable together and complement each other brilliantly. Their attraction is immediate, their passion undeniable, their interaction enthralling, and their sexual chemistry is smokin' hot! Pun intended! Read the book and you'll understand what I mean! Let's just say things do get a little heated! lol... I snickered, snorted, giggled and sniffled through the entire book but by the end, I was happy, satisfied, and well entertained. Firefighter Dragon is the first release in the Fire and Rescue Shifters Series and sets the stage for the entire series. We're introduced to a wonderfully diverse cast of fascinating characters, some of whom will have their own books in the future. I know this because there are currently three more books available in the series: Firefighter Pegasus (Book Two), Firefighter Griffin (Book Three), and Firefighter Sea Dragon (Book Four). In fact, I loved this book so much, I raced back to Amazon to purchase the remaining three. I can hardly wait to dive in! Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! In fact, I loved it so much, I bought it. Please allow me to explain. I have Kindle Unlimited so I could have read this story for free by borrowing it through Amazon but customers aren't allowed to keep the books you 'borrow'. They have to be returned and after reading the first few chapters, I knew this was a book I wanted as part of my permanent library so I could read it again. Good books get even better when you read them for the second or third time. Maybe it's just me, but I always seem to find things I missed during my first read. Chant's books are all enrolled in the KU program but I still find myself buying them all. What can I say? Yes, they're that good and I always feel like I get my money's worth! Would I recommend it? You bet and I am but only for adult readers since it does include some steamy, dreamy love scenes. If you love unique well-crafted paranormal stories filled to the brim with danger, drama, action, adventure, lies, deceit, betrayal, angst, heartache, passion, romance and always a happy ending, then Firefighter Dragon is calling your name! Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! I can hardly wait to dive into Book Two, Firefighter Pegasus! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!
Beautiful, curvy, American archaeologist Virgina James has staked everything, including her professional reputation, on her findings that the lost burial mound of the ancient Anglo-Saxon king Brithelm is located near the southern coast of England. After four years of research, two trips to Europe, three preliminary papers, one nearly exhausted grant, and three exhausting months spent examining every square inch of the hills surrounding Brighton, Virginia is finally close to discovering the location ... and her latest find, the jewel encrusted gold nose guard from an ancient helmet, is indisputable proof her theory is correct. Unfortunately, Virginia had no way of knowing that unearthing the precious artifact would also summon a malevolent dragon who will stop at nothing to add the discovery to his hoard. Wait... What? Dragon??? Dragons aren't real, right? Yes, apparently, they are and it seems there's more than one. But after almost being burned to death by an evil white dragon whose greed proves to be stronger than his morality, Virginia is convinced all dragons are bad, very, very bad. So what's a beautiful archaeologist to do when she discovers her handsome rescuer Dai Drake is also a dragon and not a dragon hunter as he claims... and that she's his mate?!? Huh? Oh no! Is Dai just blowing smoke to get his hands on Virginia's treasure, including her rich curves!? We'll see!
A pretty short book. The funniest bit is when the rich baddie dragon and our firefighter hero dragon had this verbal one-upmanship by boasting to each other about their hoard in order to establish dominance,
"I possess a flawless four carat princess-cut diamond." "I possess an unworked nugget of Gwynfynydd gold, exceedingly fine." "Hah. I possess four ingots of pure gold, each one a kilogram in weight." "I possess a choker containing a dozen matched rubies of exceptional quality, set in platinum," "I possess a flawless five carat cushion-cut emerald, surrounded by twenty diamonds, set in gold," "I possess a flawless eight carat emerald, mounted in platinum. Are we going to continue to trade mere baubles, or do you have even a single item of real worth?"
As for the romance, it's instant mate recognition on our hero's part and insta-lust from our heroine. With such a short story, the baddie is dealt with quickly but the other members of the firefighting team sound interesting enough for me to continue the series.
I am hoping that this series picks up a little bit and that this book is just a slow start. I am not even sure what to think. We meet an archeologist, Virginia, who discovers an artifact. If she only knew that this treasure was wanted by dragon shifters. Dai saved her from an evil dragon. Then when they end up together in her place one thing leads to another. And they become mates. They should all be happy and live happily ever after....but not before Virginia is kidnapped by the evil dragon in an attempt to get the artifact from Dai. There was not much in regards to the character development. I dont really have an idea of the personalities of the main characters.
This was a short paranormal romance I picked since it is about firefighters and rescue teams. But they are unusual paranormal fighters. I did enjoy the world building about the different kinds of paranormals and the team. The villain was too cliche. The romance was too fast to be believable it's one of those only one mate deals.
COYER: Read a book with a dragon on the cover. PTS: 2
A sweet and steamy romance between a Welsh Dragon and a sexy archeologist. My first book by Zoe Chant and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series, especially Chase book.
I had high hopes for this one. Having read and loved other series of this author i thought this would be another series I could throw myself into. Unfortunately it's not for me. I felt pretty let down with the story in general and I have to say the audiobook was really terrible. My star rating is for the book. My rating for the audiobook would be one star.
Firefighter Dragon is book one in the Fire & Rescue Shifters series by Zoe Chant.
I actually read Firefighter Griffin, book 3, first and had to start the series from the beginning. I love shifter romances; especially ones that feature dragons. And who doesn't like sexy hot shifter firefighters?! This was a nice start to the series.
I love all the paranormal firefighter characters in this series. The series has a unique cast of paranormal creatures; pegasus, griffins, dragons, and more. I very much enjoy the verity.
The storyline and world building are creative. Its unique and makes the series stand out. We are treated to a perfect blend of romance, suspense, and action.
Virginia finds an important artifact however an evil dragon shows up trying to kill her. Dai shows up to rescue her and realizes Virginia is his mate, but she is now afraid of dragons. What will Dai do?
Firefighter Dragon is a shot and quick story. I would have liked a bit more of a complete story, but as I said its a nice introduction to the series. I highly recommend the Fire & Rescue Shifters sereis.
2 stars for the story, but 1 star for the atrocious narration.
A fairly short listen (thank goodness) coming in at just under four hours, the story is a little ropey. The weirdest thing for me is that it’s never made clear why so many different shifters from all over the UK and Ireland manage to end up working for the Brighton, (in the South East of the UK) fire services. The characters are a little wooden and the plot pretty predictable, but for a quick read it’s not too bad, if forgettable.
What brought this edition low though and ensured my returning it, was the atrocious accents by the narrator. Apparently the narrator clearly believes a sub par Glaswegian accent works equally well as a Welsh or Irish one. The English accents weren’t a hell of a lot better, though at least they were passingly recognisable.
Authors and publishers - please, please, if you want your characters to have authentic voices when narrated take a moment to check they can do the required accent(s), listen yourselves and if you’re not that sure, why not check with someone who actually speaks with the accent.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!! ***I bought this on September 5th
The cover is nice and fiery! Definitely a great cover! This is not the cover than attracted me to the book though. I saw the 2nd book in the series and I tend to collect everything Pegasus and Unicorn, so I had to buy the series :)
This is the first book in the series and is about 100 pages long. It is for adults only due to the steamy content.
Okay, this is a quick read, and I loved it! There is adventure and drama all wrapped up in this great read. I don’t want to give anything away because I feel the blurb is plenty to intrigue you. Both Virginia and Dai are my kind of characters who stick to their morals and are protective and loyal. The fire department and shifters are a unique group that you will not want to miss reading about!
I highly recommend this book for a quick awesome fire breathing dragon-tastic read!!
Series: Fire & Rescue Shifters #1 Rating: 3 stars - I liked it
This was a fast paced, insta-love, fated mate story. Virginia is an archaeologist who found an artifact on dragon land. Now that dragon is after her and the only person who can help her is the hot firefighter who saved her, who is also a dragon. I liked Virginia and Dai. I did think Virginia was a bit naïve because she didn’t realize he was a dragon sooner. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will read the next book.
When you're on COVID-19 lockdown and need a little levity, a short romantic romp about a Welsh shapeshifter dragon firefighter with red hair (whew, that's a lot of things!) could be just the ticket for needed distraction. It definitely was for me. : ) An unexpectedly enjoyable read, even if fluffy and predictable.
A curvy female with a Welsh dragon shifter firefighter book? Sign me up! Overall I thought it was cute. I always wish for a bit longer, wish there had been some more time for relationship building.
I loved this! It was fun, light and a great way to take a break from reality. The writing was easy and the characters likeable. I would definitely recommend this to paranormal fans.
While this isn’t my usual type of read, I did have fun with it. I’m not big on insta love and that’s definitely what a lot of these mate books have, I would also say the smut scenes didn’t do much for me. I thought the fire crew was fun and they made me laugh a few times. Our MCs weren’t too bad either. Plot was fine, thought some of the rules of dragons was interesting and the scene where he drapes her in the jewels of his bird was rather hot. Overall, a solid read and I’ll see about giving some other books in the series a try, especially since the audiobooks are shorts and the accents are fun to listen to lol 😅
My complete enchantment with dragons causes me to overlook that not all dragons are good dragons. This book was an important reminder for me, since Virginia had exactly the opposite reaction: believing that there was no such thing as a “good dragon”. Leaving Dai in a significant conundrum by having a fated mate that hates him without realizing it. I had a lot of fun watching as Fate ran amok with these two. I loved seeing the villain get his just desserts, and I can’t wait to read more about the rest of this fire crew.
I love this type of love at first site stories. Victoria is really interesting, smart but her mouth gets her in trouble. Dai is sweet and noble and even though he technically lies to Victoria saying he is only half a dragon, he feels completely guilty.
I could not finish this book. I prefer books with romance but no erotic scenes. I stopped at the first erotic section about a third of the way in. It was good until then.
Interesting premise, funny characters, not much time for story or relationship development. Also entirely too many garmmar errors to keep me engrossed but a good way to pass 3 hours
This book needs to be re-written and fleshed out. Luckily, the author improved as she went along. I would recommend reading the first three before making a decision about this author. Maybe even a littler further in the series.
I do like the characters. The storyline is lacking.
This shifter world: Shifters can maybe heal minor things but not major? (inconsistent as series and next series progress). They have fated mates. There aren't any stories where someone's fated mate died. They can get pregnant outside of being mated. Pretty much every animal has a shifter equivalent. There's even a mention of an octopus shifter in one of the books. There are two books about shark shifters. And they travel in their shark form on land. That part is super cheesy. There are mythical shifters, as well, but some of those just maybe shouldn't exist. The shifters do not fight for dominance.
And for the series as a whole: There are NO alpha male shifters who go all possessive. (Well, maybe but just barely.) There's no deep chemistry between any of the pairs. The better part of the story is the group as a whole and the platonic part of the relationships between the mates. There's no romance. (No wining and dining, little wooing, etc.). It's rare there's even a date or an outing together that isn't related to dealing with the bad guy or as part of the whole group. There's no intensity to the relationships. There is some to the story in dealing with the bad guys.
There is very little steam to any of the books and it becomes smaller as the series progresses. Most of the books after the first few have one bad sex scene.
Overall, I have enjoyed both series but think they are far over-rated. They're almost an unfunny spoof. There isn't a deepness to any part of any of the stories that you usually get with shifters.
One thing I do love and it is one of the things I like about shifter stories the most is we have a tight group of people we see in every single book. Once their book has past, we still see them and they have at least a small part of the story in future books.
My favorite shifter series is Phoenix Pack by Suzanne Wright and to call these series similar is laughable. They are similar in title only. Don't expect anything like that here.
