"Dom had thrown away the only life he knew to be with Seth, and Seth would make sure Dom never regretted this decision."
At the end of He is Poison, I felt that while they had established loyalty and that feelings had started to blossom between them, nothing was solid. Their foundation was still shaky, and I'm not going to lie; the first 50% confirmed that. I needed these two to get on the same page because I wanted to slap them both. The LACK of communication was insane. Seth did not want to listen, really listen to Dom, and Dom jumped the gun so fast that his mind went to the worst possible case every time Seth opened his mouth.
Dom's jealousy was insane. I have seen very few characters with that kind of level of jealousy. It was wild because despite his words (the constant reference to sluts) and his calm, controlled outer appearance, you have this wild, passionate, at times irrational and emotional man. I loved seeing that contrast. However, in a way, when someone like Dom loves you as deeply, willing to do anything, to defy the family he always wanted a place in, with the top at his fingertips…I shouldn't be so surprised by how deep his jealousy and possessiveness ran. Don't get me wrong, Seth had his own issues and for some reason, could not take one minute to think why Dom would act in a certain way (especially when some of his actions were not helping the situation). Dom has some major internalized homophobia as well which is so funny because come on, do you not see yourself? I also liked how we got a peek into Dom's past and childhood
I also loved how tender and sweet Dom was towards Seth. His love for Seth was so adorable at times and made my heart melt. Seth is honestly a lovable softie and clearly not meant for the world of mafias. Those moments of domesticity between them were fun to read. It led to some hilarious moments, and the banter between them was A++. BUT, seeing them come together, especially Dom, wholly give themselves to one another was so beautiful. He is Mine had all the steam I've come to expect and love from K.A. Merikan's stories.
"That was it. Domenico was the king of the world, the most eligible bachelor of the gay underworld, and the future husband of one Seth Villani, who looked at Dom with so much tenderness everyone could see there was no other man for him."
The action. What can I say? The story takes on such a wild direction in the last 30% that I was literally holding my breath as I kept reading. So engaging and kept me on the edge of my seat. I need to know what is going to happen next! I felt like I was watching John Wick or another action film while reading.
Overall I enjoyed it and can't wait to jump into book three.
