Two Alone

Damn her. His body was still on fire. Damn her, why had she responded that way? So honestly. With no coyness. No affectation. Her mouth had been so receptive. Her kisses so generous. Her breasts so soft…

Only two survive the small plane crash in the Canadian wilderness miles from civilization: Rusty Carlson, a real estate agent from Beverly Hills, who has never faced anything more perilous than L.A.’s rush hour traffic; and Cooper Landry, an embittered Vietnam veteran, who has endured the horrors of warfare and a POW camp.

Rusty wouldn’t have believed herself capable of dragging her unconscious fellow passenger from the wreckage, but that was only the first challenge confronting her. The man himself is as hostile and unforgiving as the mountainous terrain in which they’re stranded. If they had a choice, they would go their separate ways. But they don’t. If they want to live, they must stay together.

Teamed against the harsh elements, injury, and a pair of conniving cutthroats, Rusty and Cooper must rely on each other in order to survive. In a one room cabin they find shelter. . .but, as winter closes in, they have no protection against the sexual attraction that becomes the real test of their fortitude.

Within those four rough walls, Rusty discovers that Cooper’s brusqueness arises from immeasurable heartache, and, to Cooper’s dismay, his credo of No romance, no love, no thanks becomes his desperate chant to ward against Rusty’s allure.
************************************************************************************
Dois Estranhos

Maldita seja.

OK, all the clichés were at work here maybe. Tough, sexy, alpha Vietnam vet. Sexy, city girl. Both survive a plane crash and have to rely on one another for survival. It is one of her older books and I did enjoy it but it has not of the grit that her newer books have. You could do worse than spend an hour or two reading it.

But after a plane crash stranded them in the remote reaches of the north, the strangers had no choice but to depend on one another.

Beautiful and self-confident businesswoman Rusty Carlson was hurt, terrified and alone with a man she feared. But one thing was certain she would surely die without his help.

Vietnam vet Cooper Landry had a deep-rooted grudge against beautiful women like Rusty. Experience had taught him they were takers. But he'd survived far worse dangers, and this time he'd be damned if he'd let her risk his chance for survival.

Get Clark Gable out of your minds as Cooper but there was scene similar to this - sheets hanging between the beds for privacy.... I did say "clichés"!

I really enjoyed this older Sandra Brown (Silhouette Intimate Moments) romance from 1987!

Rusty (a Beverly Hills socialite who works for her father's real estate company) and Cooper (a Vietnam vet) are the only survivors of an airplane crash and find themselves stranded in the Canadian wilderness. Along the way they encounter two shady unsavory hermits who offer them shelter. Cooper was a bit harsh towards Rusty at the beginning and had trust issues but he mellowed as the book went on. Rusty went from being a somewhat shallow socialite to a stronger woman. I really loved the sexual tension in this book! The love scenes didn't come till halfway through the book so the build up was great! This was a very enjoyable read!

A pampered socialite and an embittered veteran fight for survival after crash-landing in the remote Northwest Territories. The plot had so much in common with a couple of my favorite Linda Howards that I just had to read this one. But the similarities tantalized just as the differences disappointed.

Rusty and Cooper.
Both had an okay and an annoying side.
She started out well for a LA socialite. Stoic and valiant in face of a situation completely out of her comfort zone-by about 180 degrees. But when she kept bringing up things that are ‘realities in the world somewhere’ like designer sheets and downy pillows, bubble baths and perfumes again and again, then it got annoying. Okay harking for a warm bed, the safety of home, a glass of milk or even a doughnut is understandable but just when you want to admire her for enduring so much with pragmatism, she reverts to kind.

As for the H, he was the kind who mark and judge a woman based on one lousy relationship in the past. He was an a-hole guy who reverts to name calling and slut shaming when the situation gets out of hand (read when sexual frustration boils over!). He feels a woman is to blame for ‘making men froth with sexual frustration’ by just existing. And no, poor men are not to blame. Otherwise he is in full alpha hero mode and takes good care of the h, protecting her at all cost.

The chemistry was sizzling, the sex hot and explicit.
So yes, it was okay-good but the story flagged at times and the sudden fast forward ending was not to my liking.

This felt more like a Linda Howard book rather then a Sandra Brown book. Good read but not what I expected, there was zero suspense, it more about the blossoming romance between the H&h.

The hook has been used many times before: beautiful woman and cynical man find themselves stranded and must work together to survive and in the process end up falling in love. The book has two things going for it, it's short and the bulk of the book is focused on how they survive, not on how they fall in love. It's only in the last fifty pages or so when they have been rescued that the book becomes a full fledged romance novel. It was the perfect quick read for a hot afternoon.

¡Enhorabuena, Sandra!

Reviewed in 2010:

So.. Stuff I liked:

1- Cooper Landry. He is broody, tortured enough to warrant my heartfelt love and bring forth all my protective instincts which makes him the perfect alpha hero. His callous behavior towards Rusty at the beginning made me realize that oh boy, when this one falls, he will fall hard and that made me nearly rub my hands together in glee at the mere thought of his fall. And every expectation I had of him as a hero was met. Cooper just sizzles the pages with his smoldering sensuality and the hot, hot kisses that fairly made Rusty not the only one to yearn to possess him. *wistful sigh*

2- I loved the undeniable hostility between Rusty and Cooper which actually sprang from their mutual attraction towards each other which both refused to give in – or Cooper refused to give in because in his mind, he has nothing left to offer to a woman and because for him trust doesn’t come easily at all. Because of this, the simmering tension and sensuality between the two just took my breath away a time or two and I could barely sit still as anticipation coursed through me as I waited for the moment the inevitable explosion to come! *note to self: should join a Lamaze class ASAP*

3- I loved the epilogue or rather the ending. It wasn’t abrupt, neither was it drawn out and what made this ending special was because of how their happily ever after was told. When Cooper leaves thinking that Rusty had ultimately betrayed him, it is Rusty who makes her way to the mountains where Cooper lives, and the ending is described months later which effectively conveys what happened that night when a bedraggled Rusty showed up on Cooper’s doorstep and also gives the reader glimpses into their happily ever after. Now why we can never find a man like Cooper, I would never know!!

Now.. Stuff I didn’t like so much:

1- What’s with the names of the hero and heroine in this book? Rusty? Who in the world calls their child Rusty? LOL! And Cooper was an okay name but I wanted something more significant, a name that would scream testosterone and ooze sexuality in lethal doses just like the man himself! ^_^

Re-Read in 2022:

Two Alone by Sandra Brown is one of those books that features a hero of the type that I love best; tortured, cynical, and extremely reluctant. And Sandra Brown tends to write the best heroines; classy, beautiful, and sensual in a way that she alone can write them.

What happens when a hero who has a huge dislike for socialites ends up with a heroine as such after a plane crash, forcing them to rely on each other? Well sparks fly and romance of the kind that delivers an emotional punch is the resultant effect.

Whenever I am in need of a hero who ticks all the boxes that I mentioned above, I always recall Two Alone by Sandra Brown. This is a tale I would always love and come back to, when I need a pick me up!

Rating = 5/5

It was bound to happen. For the first time since I started reading her books, I found a hero who's not to my tasting.

Why?

He was so mean and rude to her. For me, it was a little too late when he realized what he had and then decided not to let her go.

Maybe it's because this book was written some time ago but I just didn't like the guy. I was all about the heroine. She did her best in an awful situation and she was super patient with him and his frequent outbursts of anger. I mean she had no other means of survival so I get why she needed to be on her best behavior with him but once civilization was back on the plate, she should have made him grovel big time.

So what's Two Alone about?

Rusty Carlson and Cooper Landry found themselves as the sole survivors after a plane crash. Rusty is the first one to wake up and she helps Cooper get out of the plane. As soon as Cooper is awake, he takes the lead in organizing their survival.

Rusty is a successful real state agent in Los Angeles. She comes from money. Despite this, she's able and ready to deal with her new environment.

Cooper is an ex-Vietnam vet. He's rough around the edges. He's a man of few words and he's someone who mistrusts women implicitly. He dislikes Rusty from the moment his eyes landed on her. She's too beautiful and probably in need of a sugar daddy. He also thinks she's a seductress who's making him be consumed by lust.

Uff, can you tell why I wasn't a fan of Cooper?

Now, the writing per se was as always stellar with great descriptions and ambiance.

Cliffhanger: No

Lord..Rusty's "taut breasts" and Cooper's "mustache" should be listed as characters lol. I have never read a book where such descriptive images of boobs were a focal point. Even in the epilogue I thought surely they are done mentioning her ample breasts. Nope!! Idk if it's bc it was written in the 80s or what but Rusty needed to grow some balls and Cooper needed to lose some.

I hate books that do a 180 on you at the end and you’re sitting there saying, “who are these people”?? That’s this book by Sandra Brown. It starts out with a plane crash, the h/h are the sole survivors, they tough it out, they return to civilization, go their separate ways and life is sad without the other. It sounds good, but it’s not.

The hero, Cooper Landry a Vietnam War vet (yes the book is dated), despises the heroine, Rusty Carlson rich socialite of sorts. He’s got so many issues that he’s nothing but a boor and a jerk. He’s so mean and ornery that you just want to slap him one and screech “go back under that rock where you came from”. He really comes across as an 80 year old geezer sometimes and not some hot 30 year old babe. The two are stranded in the wilds of the Canadian north when their plane goes down so they have to rough it together. He of course can but she can’t, though she tries. Cooper berates her ever chance he gets and she just sucks it up or mildly tells him to stop. Why she never flat out told him to go **bleep bleep** himself I don’t know but that’s what he needed. For a good halfway through the novel this is all you get but you think there might be some potential for a good love/hate story here. Well no, it’s just hate. There’s no emotion building between the two. There’s sex but that’s it. This a-hole makes Anne Stuarts a-hole heroes look nearly angelic at times. He’s so grating and just unlikeable.

Once they return to civilization he’s still a jerk but she knows that deep down he’s an aw-shucks good guy. And so start the gag moments. Finally at the end you think you’re reading a totally different story because there’s the gushing moment. Ew. Then there are some of the gross sex scenes where Cooper is just so vulgar it’s anything but romantic even if the heroine turns all shades of pink when he talks like that. He talks about her being all creamy for him and her nipples are always hard etc etc. This one scene where in a fit of rage he tells her father that not only does the business proposition he made suck but . Who says that and forgives it even??? Then there’s the –what the??? They don’t even know each other!

The only good thing about this novel is the description of their surroundings after the plane crash. That was well-done, but I don’t read romance novels for the scenery alone :-/

The story has major potential at the beginning but it’s too much of the surly/miserable/curmudgeon gamma hero that just kills it along with the heroine who takes it all in stride. Not my kind of romance.

This was hysterical. And I’m quite positive it wasn’t supposed to be. But with quotes like:

“Her breath was disrupting his body hair” and,

“His mustache was surprisingly silky,”

how could I not laugh! When the hero took a break in the middle of sexy time to give the heroine a sponge bath?... I died.

And the mustache! I think 1980’s Sandra Brown had a fixation with all things big and bushy. It was all Cooper’s mustache this and coopers mustache that. And since I listened to the audio and the narrator kept pronouncing/emphasizing it muhSTACHE! rather than the normal muss-stash, it didn’t help me take the material seriously.

Overall I liked the way the story was written just not what was written. The hero was a complete jackass and the heroine had some pretty dumb moments. Like when the hero slut shamed her for brushing her hair and she rewarded him with all the sex. PSA for all my ladies out there, don’t do that!

Two Alone felt dated but despite that I did enjoy it even though there were moments I didn't like the hero Cooper or the heroine Rusty much.

They are the only survivors of a plane crash and are stranded together. Cooper was a mean boor, belittling Rusty sometimes and being tender the next, if he was woman I would have said mood swings but hey he wasn't. He was pretty crude as well, in the things he said and implied to Rusty. Of course he had a sob story, terrible mother, POW in Nam, then a bad woman. Rusty was a rich pampered kid who vied for her father's approval but I liked it when she put her foot down in the end and the whole stranded experience was new to her, she was injured so she did whine a bit.

Read this when you are in a mood for a hero who is verbally abusive at times and different the next and the heroine who just seems to forget it and jumps into bed with him.

Survival in the wild after an air crash with a man who is pure Neanderthal and a woman who is born with a gold spoon in her mouth is synonymous for a good story. And it really does not disappoint ... maybe they are some details that disturb, but nevertheless, the story is good that pulls you forward.

2.5 estrellas

There might be some spoilers, consider yourself warned!

I was curious to listen to this book.
I loved it the first time I read it, it was in my language so I wanted a real feel for it.
And I feel a bit disappointed with the story itself. I guess it has a lot to do with that it was written about the time I was born. So I don't agree with a lot of comparisons between man and a woman.
I also don't agree with hero's mannerism and that the heroine was so spineless and took soo many insults. I would have slapped the shit out of the hero in the first 10 minutes of the book. Stress or no stress, you DO NOT talk to a woman like that, who just basically saved your life if nothing else. No matter if you like, hate or despise her. That was just wrong. And In my opinion she forgave and forgot everything way too quickly.
Anyway Sandra Brown always knew how to write a story, and to keep readers interested and entranced in the read.
And it's also sad, cause I'm a big fan of her, but the ending wasn't to my liking :( It was lacking the intensity of their relationship.
But all that stuff aside, I liked it. There were a lot of eye-rolling, but I forgave for that. Again - it's the time it was written. 50shades would have shocked the shh.. out of everyone :DD

I love lost in the wilderness books, especially if the wilderness includes mountainans and snow. So I was happy to grab this book and give it a try. It starts off quickly and the MCs seemed pretty entertaining. But at about a third of the way in I threw it down in disgust. Look, I get that the author wanted a big contrast between MCs, so she's a society beauty and he's a gruff Vietnam Vet. I don't have a problem with her hating trophy hunting or being squeamish around blood. I hate trophy hunting, too, though I can handle the blood. But when Her attitude didn't make sense and it was heedless of all the danger they were in. I have no patience with stupid heroines, so this book didn't get finished. Too bad, really.

I loved this book. It was a little predictable, but it was well written so I didn't mind the predictability. The hero, Cooper was a complete ass most of the book. Even when he was being "nice" to the heroine, he was still mean! I liked how Rusty handled him though.
And it was nice to read about a beautiful heroine and not so handsome hero for a change. I was so fed up of these books where the h is ugly and the H is super hot. Loved the change here.
Definitely worth a read.

Kebetulan bbrp bln yg lalu saya membaca Up Close and Dangerous by Linda Howard Up Close and Dangerous by Linda Howard .

Yg super menyebalkan adalah dia menyesali kuku2 jarinya yg rusak krn bekerja berat drpd bangga pd pekerjaan rumah yg sdh ditunaikan dirinya.

Jadi rating saya bulatkan menjadi 3 stars, maksimal!!!!

Whether you love Sandra Brown's older romances or enjoy the 'stranded by themselves' theme, you'll want to search for this title. The story was first published in 1987 but reissued once again so it is not as hard to find a copy.

Within the first pages you realize that a plane has crashed leaving only two survivors. Rusty Carlson, an L.A. socialite and daughter of an authority figure with both monies and clout, initially thinks she is all alone. She searches the wreck and realizes that the loner sitting across the aisle on their flight is still alive. She remembers that he was the guy who looked mad all the time and gave her dirty looks. Still, she does her best to help former Vietnam veteran Cooper Landry.

From here on out these two people clash. Rusty can't seem to do anything right and Cooper, under the wrong impression of her true nature, loses patience. At the same time, he shows he cares for her. Ok, ok, this is fluff not to be taken seriously but the sexual tension between these two sizzles while making do in the Canadian wilderness.

This older contemporary romance is character-driven. There is also some mild suspense when they come upon a shady father and son team out in the back country. Before things are over each manages to learn more about their own individuality and what is really important in life.
