FOR NOVELISTS OF ALL GENRES. Are your plots too predictable? Do you have trouble creating surprising twists? This short booklet will lead you through a unique process to discover unexpected events for your story. Both "plotter" and "seat-of-the-pants" novelists will find this technique useful. The 2000-word article is based on a popular workshop taught at writers conferences by Brandilyn Collins. Bonus material added at the back.
A few reactions from novelists who have attended these workshops:

This is a very, very short book. It does provide a worthwhile insight into writing a twist into a story, but the whole thing is probably less than a blog post. I don't feel cheated at the cost, but if the price were any higher I would have.
I liked the direct definitions and the examples of assumptions. This approach is fun fodder for anyone wanting to create a great twist. The process seems to also help chisel out great images of characters as you go along. Can't wait to start my list!
this inexpensive pamphelet length piece presented a great method for creating twists. It's one of those things I think some authors spontaneously do without realizing it. If you need to do it on the fly, it helps to understand the process. Useful
I want to be a better writer, so I study Brandilyn Collin's book. Her teaching style is clear and easy to follow. I recommend the book to anyone who's serious about writing.
Ms. Collins has presented aspiring authors a gem to add to their writing toolkits. I believe good twist in a novel makes the difference between the book and author I remember, and a book that I walk away from with a vague sense that the story could have been better crafted. Well worth the purchase price, this article could make it tough to read my next few book choices, I'll be busy trying to find the premise for the twist!
