Skeletons In The Closet Having recently become tutor to the hot-headed young Eris, Rudy is elated to be deemed worthy by the eccentric side of his family. But the Boreas household seems to have more than a few dark secrets, and while the opportunities for knowledge and romance are tempting, there are some mysteries better left unsolved.
I think this is where it starts getting good. More craftiness, yes, and good people-handling skills, but what surprised me the most was where the anime diverges from the manga. There are a few slightly disturbing aspects, even outright flaws in Rudy's character, more pronounced in the anime. He's a bit more of a creep in the anime, even. I even find some of the differences rather confounding.
I don't care that he shows up in the realm of the man-ga'd clothed (in the manga) versus naked (in the anime. Or that the summoning object in the sky was of a different design. It's really how he treats women, from the more innocent scenes in the manga, to the more calculating in the anime.
I just think it's kinda fascinating why the tv show turned him a bit more into a creep. I mean, it's balanced pretty well and it just skirts up to the edge, not really crossing lines, but still. What were the later producers thinking?
I'm thinking to the fact that this story was first written as light novels before becoming a manga or an anime. I am going to go back and read those to see what the real story is.
Not a whole lot happened in this until right at the very end with "The Calamity" It was mainly about our guy getting in good with the rich family, dancing with the girl. There was a side story with Roxy getting screwed over by a friend but it didn't really add anything to the narrative, it's not like they seemed to have a deep connection either. It was very much here are there characters, BETRAYAL and now Roxy's alone.

The series is building up to something amazing as evident by the final panels!
Although I do find the romance parts a little bit awkward beings as the main character is 10, I know he's a reincarnated 30something man but still its a little much
This one is more slice of life setting up the tragedy at the end. Eris does promise her love and sex to Rudeus in five years (15) when they will both be considered adults. This age thing is the hardest for me to wrap my mind around, still great story....if slow up to this point.
I always love the early years a reincarnation anime, seeing them grow into themselves and becoming better. Even if they lived a fulfilled life in their old world. Everyone has regrets.
After much anticipated wait, we finally get to the adventure part of the story and... it blows, it fucking blows. How do I put this? The reason the manga is always better than the anime is because the manga is the pure expression of the unadulterated story where the drawings greatly reduce the amount of unnecessary dialog on situations and actions. While the anime is limited by anime clichés, laws, and budget. So to fill the gaps for lack of action to reduce the number of frames and cost, usually the dialog is extended not with useful information, but with open contemplation of buttnaked obvious things. NOW, Light Novels, I would be watching an anime instead of reading this book if I wanted somebody with down syndrome to tell me there's 13 steps on those stairs or the building was beige not white. Putting WORDS onto a page is infinitely less expensive than animating events, SO WHY, GOD FUCKING WHY does this crap also fill the pages of light novel??? Is it a 3rd world thing? Is it because 3rd world soccer moms haven't gone to university for english lit. before writing books? The rules of engagement states that it's more polite to draw your own conclusions to form an opinion before voicing it, and letting others decide whether it's relevant or offensive to them. What is the point of voicing all your contemplation in the open? Do other people need to know whether you're in dilemma because you can't choose between getting the corn bread or the Naan, and if you get the corn bread you'd have less room for other foods? Fuck! 44 years old? More like 14. Asian societies run on EMPATHY instead of equality, this means that instead of being FAIR, they care for eachother through FEELINGS. This means that if they feel like crap, they can treat you like crap. And since you can't measure empathy like you can with equality, their system DOES NOT WORK. Love and compassion is good and all, but it doesn't put food on the table and it doesn't invent iphones. Disgusting, just disgusting.
