This is the latest novella in this series I've read, and each on I rated 3-4 stars more 4's then 3. I'm not going to keep reviewing them, you can read the 1st 10 to see what I thought or you can download the first one for free on Amazon I really recommend you do that if you like witch stories or funny British humor.
Another good one. This one takes place a year after #12. In this one, Jill solves the case of a girl who comes in and says her twin sister called her and warned her to be careful. However, her sister died 3 years ago. Come to find out, the twin was sleeping with her husband and when they told her she was reckless driving and died. They saw it, but instead of calling it in, the twin assumed the life of the dead twin and went on to live with her husband. Then when the husband started straying again, she went to the private investigator to try to scare him into staying with her. There are other cases going on in this story too. We find out that Jill turned down the offer to be the first level 7 witch. Instead she is a level 4 now. She is living with Jack and things are going well. She has still kept the secret that she is a witch. Mrs. V still works for her but only part time. The other part of the time, her secretary is Jules. The twins are married and still running Cuppy C. Aunt Lucy is married and still doing the same stuff she was before. Grandma is pretty much the same. Mr. Ivers works at the toll booth that Jill has to go through every day so he is still annoying her until the very end when he gets relocated because he was going to slow because he was talking too much. I think that is about all of the wrap up! Good book-- onto the next!

This series is really hit and miss and this one was a miss. the plot was pretty thin, scattered, and the main character was downright nasty in spots. She is becoming more and more unlikable as this series goes on.
So after 12 books, you would think there couldn't be my more mysteries for Jill to solve but you'd be wrong. Ms. Abbott continues to entertain us with her mystery, the witty banter between the characters and the star of the show, Winky the cat. My only complaint is the romance between Jill and Jack is very non existent but this isn't a romantic mystery so it doesn't take away from enjoying the books.
The storyline (and some dialogue) felt forced from beginning to end as I was reading. A lot of the funny parts also felt forced. The jokes about people’s names has also gotten rather grating.
Also, the witches who moved into Cuppy C a year ago at the end of the previous book- the ONLY bit about them in this book mentions them for a couple of paragraphs. Frankly, that part was a mess. It refers to the last time Jill saw them and how the rooms were a mess back then, but THAT WAS OVER A YEAR AGO. It’s certainly not believable that Jill hadn’t been to Cuppy C or her room in a year. She also said in this book that though the rooms were neat this time that she’d keep an eye on the two witches. But, in the last book Jill saw Laura and Flora talking and laughing with Miles and Mindy so Jill KNEW the two witches were up to no good a year ago.
The book felt like the writer had a serious case of writer’s block or had big things going on in her life and needed extra time (that wasn’t given) to write this book. I certainly don’t understand why the problems weren’t fixed for (call it a second edition) at least the kindle version.
I’m going to read the next book. I’m hoping the issues in this book will be past. If instead the next book is like this one, it’ll be my last read of the series.
I am sad about having written this review. For the next book, I hope I can go back to glowing comments.
Witch Is Why Time Stood Still is book 13 in the series. It's another fun romp with Jill Gooder the PI witch. Jill and co, especially the cat can be annoying but overall, it's a happy read.
Book Rating Sexual Content: U Language: U Violent: U Would I read the next one or reread ?: Yes
My rating system (* = star) 0* Could not finish this book (waste of time) 1*Finished the book but didn't like it not fulfilled 2* Finished the book it was okay. 3* A good read worth your time. 4* An excellent read often with a novel concept or unusual plot. 5* A magnificent read. A prominent example of the genre.
There's a recap of the first twelve books. The events in this one take place a year after the ending of book 12.
Is Winky gone forever! (Hopefully.) Is there a change of workers at her office? Jack and Jill plan to live together and that, itself, will present problems since she can't let him know she's a witch.
Then there's some vampires, a problem with Winky's would-be love life, Armitage does something good, Jack's replacement at the police force will cause her problems, there's a wizard felon, there's another ghost in her life and there's a problem with someone seeming to be dead making a phone call.
There's also a Combined Sup Council. (Why is there always a Council in books of this type?)
There is one thing in this book that severely bothers me and that is something Winky goes. To me, this should have been enough to have her take him to an animal shelter immediately!
Other than the last thing the book was pretty good.
I especially like it when Grandma is in them. She is the best character.
A lot has happened since the last book. This is a catch up and update. It's good but Jill is a bit annoying that she won't progress her witch skills a bit more.....I never really think her and Jack are that suited. But we'll see how that goes.
Kathy still fairly annoying too, but she always is.
No sure what I am hoping for next. Much more of Grandma and Barry and some good cases.
A lot has changed in Jill’s world and this book really carries the story even further. In addition to solving a variety of mysteries, Jill is settling even more into the human world while keeping busy in the magical world. I really liked this book because it focused more on Jill and less on the antics of those around her. Although there was still a good amount of amusing action from those on the sidelines.
Funny and entertaining. A witchy private investigator series
And urban fantasy cozy mystery series. A witchy private investigator who must straddle to worlds the human world and the supernatural world. She has family in both and spends time in both solving crimes and finding trouble. Always a bit quirky with a little bit of sarcasm but a whole lot of fun. One of my favorite cozy mystery series
About to start the 14th book in this series of Supernatural/Mortal high jinks and while no one will ever mistake these books as literature ,they are perfect reads to offset the constant bad news of Covid19/Anarchists drumbeat. Its fun trying to figure out what 'digestives' are or the hundreds of other terms the English use to describe everyday objects. As books offered through Kindle Unlimited ,they are worth every cent.
I thought the whole series so far was pretty good. But with all the Blueberry Muffins and Custard Creams she eats she has got to weigh in at least 100 Kilos. Also she best go find a super duty dildo and a case of batteries with all that "take me I'm yours" she has put thought out to any man that looked hot to her. But now she has her detective house mate so maybe that will slow down. Just my opinion of her ways. LOL Don't take it literally.
There was a lot going on in this one, least of all it is 12 months later, and Jill has moved in with Jack! Very cleverly concocted mysteries between Washbridge and Camdlefield, and some decent new neighbours for J and J! As ever Winky is up to his usual tricks! A good place for me to stop and read some books I have. I will be back to read more about Jill and Co!
This one starts 12 months after the end of the last book, and as such, some changes for the characters have taken place. At least with the moving in with Jack, we can have someone making money, and paying some of the bills. But, there still needs to be the answer of how she can spend so much money (heck on the newsletter he neighbor makes alone), but barely pulls any in. She should at least have a contract to do regular background checks for employees or something so she can have a small steady stream.
But, the mysteries are pretty good, and I enjoy them. Would like a bit more magic, and a bit more than the same ole spells. Nice, light stories, though. Good for relaxing before bedtime.
... Jill solves a series of baffling jewel thefts. ... Jill and her boyfriend, Jack, move from his poky flat into a house in Smallwash. ... Jack finally meets Jill's birth family. ... Jill finds a new home for Winky's girlfriend Bella. ... Jill gets a sign painted for her office, but the results are not what she anticipated.
For Jill time falls into categories: Too much time on her hands, Not enough time to do everything and stop the clock! As usual there are several jobs to do....but they all come at once. How can Jill get it all done? MAGIC, of course
What fun is this? Jill tends to get into trouble no matter how good a job she does. One thing is for sure, she still loves Jack and her job. Can't wait to read the next installment.
The characters are delightful and entertaining. I have read 13 of them so far and plan to read them all. Thanks to the author for an entertaining time.
Absolutely wonderful characters that interact with each other beautiful! Fabulous plot twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend this series.
Adele Abbott does it again. I love the Jill Gooder books because they are light and entertaining reading with a bit of magic tossed in. If you are a newbie to the series, like the author, I suggest you start at the first book. Enjoy!
Well, yet again, I found multiple mistakes in the book! For example; “Peter and me were talking about…” Simple grammatical error’s that should’ve been noted and then corrected!!! Why is this so hard??? Fix these issues, please??? Thank you ☺️
