The nightmare never changes. Dragons. Death. Destruction. Edith always assumed her graphic dream was bottled up inspiration just waiting to spill onto the page. But when she opens an enchanted book, her Sight awakens, allowing her to see the Abiding; a world made up of every magical being she’s ever heard of, and some she hasn’t. Edith discovers that her recurring dream is actually a vision of the past, branding her as an oracle. This special ability makes her a target, and many will stop at nothing to control her power. When Edith’s roommate, Fiona, is mistakenly abducted in her place, Edith is forced to follow an ancient prophecy to save her. But Fiona’s life isn’t the only thing on the line. The entire magical world is in jeopardy as dark creatures resurface, killing handfuls of Abiders. Now Edith, with the help of a young Abider named Luka, must brave vampire covens, dwarf mines, and siren lairs, finding friends—and foes—along the way. Can she complete the prophecy and save Fiona? Is her journey worth risking the same fate as the previous oracle—eternal imprisonment between two hardbound covers? Edith must learn to navigate through a new world, and new relationships, if she wishes to survive.
It's a solid teen to young adult novel full of creepy creatures, relatable heroes, unexpected villains and real life drama. The characters are relatable. Other than the beginning being a tiny bit slow and the main character's constant questions, I really enjoyed the story. If you like stories written by Brandon Mull, Chanda Hann, Rick Riordan, or Stephanie Meyers you'll most likely enjoy this too. Happy reading!
