Lots of unanswered questions, plus it would have helped to have read earlier books for some clarity about the plot. I prefer books where there's some real resolution of the current storyline, even if there's carryover of over-arching stories from earlier books and hints that there's more to come in newer books. This was not a book with any pleasing results. It was, however, well-written. Better than the short choppy sentences at the beginning would indicate.
Jack’s family is more fleshed out in this good but not as action packed storyline. The dangers are real and follow Jack where ever he goes. Nothing new there. Meeting Jack’s brother and family was interesting. The history begins on what happen to their sister that was killed in their childhood helps set up the next story in the series where those details are interwoven in the current time with compelling simulators.
I really applaud the willingness to have Jack put in vulnerable positions. To lose people he cares about, to have you guessing, to make you not want to stop turning the page! What is next....
I don't like spoilers. I think you can get a synopsis of the book when you look at it before you choose to buy it. So my reviews usually don't give you a book report but rather what I thought about the book. I don't know if I wasn't paying close enough attention but for some reason this book was harder to keep the personalities straight here and there. I have read all the Jack Noble books in the order they were written. I am just devouring them one by one. I think Jack's a despicable guy but sometimes you just have to love to read about them and notice deep down "he's got some feelings" deep down. He does know that he's a "bad man:. Some how the woman still love him.
Jack Noble returns to his hometown in Florida when he finds out his high school girlfriend has been killed. It turns out the killing has just begun.
This book started out very promising. We meet Jack's brother and his family, his father who suffers from dementia, and we get our first introduction to Jack's background. But the townspeople and police force start getting killed off, leading up to a final battle where the culprit is killed, but there is no explanation of the motive behind any of it. We're left in limbo at the end of the book. Jack returns to his NY apartment numb and confused, just like the reader.
Jack Noble has two crisis' to deal with, a couple thousand miles apart. An important London official needs him to protect her from from enemies she cannot identify. Meanwhile, back home in Florida, his ex-girlfriend Jesse is dead of a seeming suicide. It didn't take Jack long to determine that she was murdered. Top of the lists of suspects is her abusive husband, but further investigation shows it was a pro hit. Whoever wanted her dead also want Noble dead and they somehow knows where he is. The situation in London is not at all what it seems and the ending will, no doubt be a surprise.
You've heard the saying, "You can never go back"? Well, in this case, Crystal River, Florida, might have been far better off had he never chosen to stop by his hometown. After six years of estrangement, the reunion with his look-alike brother is awkward. Bringing death & destruction to Crystal River causes panic amount family & friend alike as Noble attempts to locate & eliminate killers who have followed him to the small town. This episode comes as close to a page-turner as I've found in the Jack Noble series. A really good read!
The Jack Noble books are all fun reads. They have interesting plots, lots of action, occasional violence and very believable characters.
This one was no exception. Jack’s family is heavily involved in a situation no one saw coming. Small town police are squaring off against professional killers. Jack is determined to unravel what’s going on and equally determined to protect his family.
The ending has enough loose ends wrapped up to be satisfactory and enough left unresolved to encourage reading Jack Noble #9.
Trust no one, only yourself, is the maxim that Jack Noble lives by. Jack intercede on an assassination attempt. The woman he saves asks him to protect her. Jack refuses. This is not what he does. A special person from his past dies and he returns to his hometown for the funeral. No one knows he is there. But people start being murdered. No one is safe a d Jack does not know who is the enemy nor why. Mayhem and murder ensue. Major twist in this adventure.
Jack heads home to Florida after six years to go to an old friends funerals. The chaos and confusion that follows has him in a thither. This has to be one of the most heartbreaking episodes of Jack Noble that I've ever read. And, I believe Jack is heartbroken as well. He needs time after this case to get his mind straight and he deserves it. But, how long will it last? Excellent writing by L. T. Ryan.
This is a good mystery. It will take awhile to s port out good guys and bad guys but it worth it. Going home always brings back ghosts and memories of places no longer there. Jack Noble was a good agent... he was good or bad? I don't know. I do hope his life gets on track and he makes his daughter a great Dad. I recommend this book and looking for my next mystery.
It's good to see that L T Ryan has a sense of history, in touching some of the previous ladies in Jack's past. Complete with a brief look at how they were woven into Jack's memory. I had this one figured out at 40% but then I was "led astray" by things that Jack said and thought. It wasn't until the very end that I came "back around" to that same conclusion. Nice Job, L T ! I'm off to find the next Jack Noble adventure!
The book was convoluted too many characters moving in different directions it was difficult to keep the plot in focus and the ending the ending was confusing and only served to lead into the next book some of the pages were very repetitive sometimes it took a few minutes of going through minutiae to actually determine a very simple direction for movement in that part of the book it was good but could have been shortened into a much shorter story
Jack returns home to attend an old and dear friends funeral. Initially thought to be a suicide. He quickly determines at the crime scene, it wasn't a suicide or a murder. She was executed. And he is also on the killers list. All of his family is in danger. This is an extremely fast paced action thriller. Enjoyed tremendously.
Another fast paced action Jack Noble story. This time Jack goes home for his ex-girlfriend's funeral. But things are not as they seem when he finds out she was murdered. This then sets Jack off on another adventure full of twists and turns. As with all the other Jack Noble books there is more than one story happening. Great read!
Maybe tacky..but typos are aggravating and stop my train of thought!! Someone is not doing a very good job!! Stories are so good is every way! Research is top-notch; characters are excellent; locales are realistic; story lines carry so well even from book to book! I enjoy all of them so far!!
Jack Noble is still in London in the middle of multiple people wounded or dead. An attempted assassination had gone awry. Breaking a vow of not returning home to Florida, he's still stuck investigating a mysterious death. Captivating and fast moving. Jack Noble is my guy!
This might be the best of the series if surprise plot twists is your catnip. Jack has changed and so has his work, his friends flow in and out of his life (some flow out of theirs) and odd characters join the crowded cast but none brings any real closure so we don't yet know who is the real enemy.
Excellent story and plot. Unfortunately Jack lost a lot by going home. First Jessie ,then April and then whoever Marsha was . Sasha tried to help but it was over her head, Now Jack I on his own with no one to back him up . In epilog it sounds that Frank Skinner and SIS is being put out of business. Onto the next chapter. 10 stars 🌟+!!!!! Thanks, Carl Clause
Jack is asked by a budding politician in England to be her bodyguard. As he is telling her “No”, he gets a call that a former girlfriend has committed suicide back in Florida. He goes home for the funeral, and finds himself being hunted for an unknown reason. Of course he is up for the kill. ENJOY!
He knew her years ago, still felt like he should go home for the funeral. He had just botched a kidnapping of a high profile woman, with her guards being killed. Now she won’t take no from him to be her bodyguard. The texts, calls, she is persistent. His instincts say no. This was very interesting, and what was the real motive at play here keeping you guessing to the end
Although this was a very intriguing story, it was totally confusing from the last 7 books. The mother is now dead and there’s a dad and a brother. What happened to Wizard and the computer nerds. And Burke and the dog. Noble was handed over to the Chinese????
Where’s the connection. It seems this book is a totally new Jake Noble and characters
A good but not great continuation of the Jack Noble series. This one exposes Jack to threats and skills outside his comfort zone but as expected, he shines in the end. The book had less action than prior novels and exposes vulnerabilities not seen previously but if nothing else, makes the central protagonist even better. An enjoyable and quick read.
Another Great book in a Great series. Once you start a book, it's like you can't put it down. This is probably the only series I've read that kept my interest through the whole series. I just hope the rest of the books do the same.
As with the other 7 Jack Noble books I've read, #8 is great.
Even in my mundane life, I know you can never go home again and find things the same. But, Jack sure has a past following him..and anyone he cares about..following him.
Noble appears to be the least likely to survive a serious attempt on his life of any of the secret assassination killers I have seen. He has no special skills and muddles his way through.
This is a great series. L.T. has put together a great cast of characters. Jack keeps pace with a lot of twists and turns in his dangerous life. Always hopeful he will get the girl in the end. Looking forward to the next book.
Well written and developed both in character description and story line. A pure who done it that leaves many questions. Sorry to see some characters killed off, but looking foreword to what tomorrow brings. Well done!
Jack is all trouble across the GLOBE.... Just know that JN is involved there is going to be trouble... That’s my man though... He has to hook up with a Bear again... I’am missing my other!
