There are good things and there are bad things about this thriller. The development of Stockholm syndrome, brain-washing, mental abuse and crime are all fully and realistically detailed. Yet, the middle part of the book makes me feel like I'm reading a textbook about Stockholm syndrome instead of a novel about it, also most of the characters are unlikable and for many times weak-willed and pathetic. A family is about to be destroyed and the family members are going to be used, abused and they will suffer? Oh, this time just I don't care.

Still by the ending part, some of the villains start showing their human side instead of just being purely evil and merciless, and I warmed up to the second daughter of the family to a point I wanted her to survive her family's ordeal. So, 3.8 stars, for I learnt quite a number of things about brain-washing, mental abuse and imprisonment through the reading.
