You know her name. You know her story. You know her secret.
She isn't like any other girl, not anymore. Jared Walker complicated everything; he told her his secret, stole her heart and showed her a whole new world. She knew then that she'd never be the same again.
Ava Delaney is no longer human - she doesn't know what she is. She should probably figure it out. But there is much more important stuff that she needs to learn first: how to keep her new secret, how to fight and most importantly... how to survive a war that's older than time.
Ahhhh!!! I love this series. Second book was awesome. I was left with a strong desire to see what happens next. After how the author left it, I have to see if she redeems some of the characters. There are enough loose ends to drive me crazy, although that's a sign of a great book. Five glittery stars.
I did enjoy this book but not as much as the first one. A big part of that was the fact that Ava kept lying and keeping things from Jared. Even though she told him she would stop. I hate when characters act like that. I did like the ending and I'm curious to know what happens in the next book.
I need book three now! This was brilliant. I loved both books and hope I don't need to wait to long! If you like paranormal books then this series is a must!
Hue is less entertaining than the first book. The plot does not really progress, it is just a continuation of Archaic where nothing much happens. The little action scenes only take place towards the end of the book.
I had the same problems than with the first book which were about how repetitive the grammar/the story is, we follow Ava in her everyday life doing everyday task. Nodding and suppressing yawns are the main things she does. Concerning the grammar/syntax, some dumb errors could be the use of "never since" instead of "ever since" or "conscious" instead of "conscience" . Another example could be the repetitive and tiring overuse of "was" which could be seen in sentences like "I was so in love with him but I didn't even know that his favorite color was or what was his favorite movie was ." or It was early evening and I was busy in the shower. I was happy". . There errors could maybe be due to the lack of a good proof reader.
Another thing that bothered me was the sole character of Ava, she is SO dramatic. But at the same time she acts like an emotionless robot.
I did enjoy this book like book 1. However, it followed the same plot like some others, Lux Series and Covenant Series by Jennifer L Armentrout and Vampire Academy by Rachelle Mead. In all books, Onyx, Pure and Frostbite, a person does get killed by the enemy. From Onyx, Adam and from Covenant it was Caleb and from Frostbite it was Mason and in Regan's Hue it was Kennedy. So it did follow with a character death and all of them were at the near end of the book.
Next was, Ava was lying to Jared, not to hurt him but to try and protected him from dying. I know I would do that and if Jared or anyone else doesn't understand that Ava wanted him to live, then someone needs to say something to him about what if it was him. What would he do? Ava did tried and say it to him within the book itself. He needed to stop healing her as it was taking to much of his energy but he didn't listen. Yes i did get annoyed with the lying with Ava but i would do it too, if i was in that situation.
So if, anyone has problems with Ava lying and keeping things from him, my question would be to you! WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE IN AVA'S SHOES/STORY? WHAT IF IT WAS HAPPENING TO YOU?
Jared was like a yo-yo at the end of the book, breaks up with Ava and then says to protect her that they are going back out! Real people don't do that shit, well most people don't.
I loved Hue! I mean seriously...L...O...V...E! I think it was even better than the first one... It had me second guessing and the heartbreak felt so genuine... I didn't expect them to part ways but the way it happened was truly emotional...
I'll visit this one again and again just to get a feel of the emotions that ran including the pain of losing friends... It felt so real...
I can't wait to read Descendant... I'm coming back for me... definitely...
I was looking forward to the second book only to read that the main character spends most of the book tired.... like every 4 pages she's tired. Then Jared just dumps her for trying to save his life and called ist a betrayal. I found it all childish the way the main character acts panic attacks ext I like my main characters to be bad ass. By the end of the book I was so board and annoyed. Not going to continue
In the second instalment of bland-Caucasian girls are so hard to come by, the stakes have never been lower.
“I hate horrors,” I whined to Jared. Like a typical girl, I didn’t see the point of trying to scare myself. I’d once watched a horror movie and I’d been so scared afterwards I’d spent the whole night awake, making sure the boogieman wasn’t going to come for me.
Ava sounds like the absolute worst. Like a typical girl? Are normal girls too fragile and delicate for non-descriptive horror movies? Nothing wrong with being a wimp when it comes to horror-movies, but kindly stop acting as if its normal for girls to be as pathetic as Ava. Girls can only come in more than one flavour.
No matter how often I looked at him, I was still fascinated with this gorgeous guy who was my boyfriend! I still couldn’t believe it, and there were still times I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.
Yes, how could the burning hunk of I’m human and more be interested in you, lowly, average, non-special girl with a personality blackhole? You are of no importance, please continue to question your self-worth, until your boyfriend can reassure you of his feelings. Not that Jared ever gives Ava a reason to doubt him. But hey, that’s what poorly constructed YA-heroines do! And does the boy I’m dating really like me? becomes the main conflict that drives the plot. This shouldn’t be promoted as normal or healthy behaviour. Then again, what is normal or healthy about this relationship?
1. Jared has clear anger problems.
“I’ve missed so much school already this week and I knew if I told you about my arm you wouldn’t let me go to school.”
He looked at the ceiling like he was trying to keep a lid on his building anger which he listened to my pathetic explanation. I watched him close his eyes and take a breath before looking at me again. I was prepared for the next wave of anger and I didn’t have to wait long.
Ava is going through a transformation from human to “human and more”. However, she's reluctant to be upfront about her new abilities, worried that Jared will ban her from leaving the house. While Jared might have a point, how is responding with an explosion of anger appropriate? Run, girl!
2. Jared threatens murder.
“We’ll be watching you and if we find out you’ve said anything to anyone I will personally take care of you,” Jared warned. He had Andrew’s full attention. “Do you understand me?”
At the last sentence, I watched as Andrew swallowed hard. Jared could be pretty scary when he wanted to be.
“Just remember we’ll be watching you,” Jared reminded him as he stepped out of his way and turned his attention back to me. Almost instantly he’d changed back to the boy I knew and loved…
Ava accidentally exposes her new glowing light powers in the presence of a concerned friend. While Andrew has been sort-of-a-third-wheel love interest, he obviously cares for Ava and wouldn’t intentionally endanger her. So, of course, none of that matters to Jared, who immediately reacts with aggression and the subtle threat of physical harm. Seems like a reasonable guy.
3. They don’t really know each other.
I was so in love with him but I didn’t even know what favourite colour was or what was his favourite movie was.
Not that Ava, with her limited development, particularly helps matters. How do you form a relationship with one so passive? Her only interest is her boyfriend. And if they don’t know each other, how does this count as love? Can you really love someone you don’t know?
The kiss was soft and gentle. My knees wobbled. This boy could do all sorts of stuff to my hormones.
So, lust then.
4. Ava is an object.
“You belong to me, not Jared,” he hissed. It was almost anger.
“Jared doesn’t want me anymore.” His eyes widened at my statement.
“He’s a fool,” he said, then added. “I’ll never let you go.” His eyes looked possessively over me.
I touched upon this in Archaic, Ava being passed back and forth between the two fractions. Keeping Ava safe takes the guise of controlling Ava’s every move. To the point that Ava needs to be escorted to and from school, and Jared sneaks into her room at night, to guard her while she sleeps. In all, this presents Ava as a weak and feeble character, in constant need of rescue. I mean, in the space of what, a month? Ava has been kidnapped or attempted to be kidnapped 4-5 times???
Ava is a person. She doesn’t belong to Jared or Mason. It’s not romantic to be viewed as the property or to be fought over by two feuding brothers. Ah, this alpha-dominant male mentality.
In Summary: Hue is practically the same novel as Archaic, rehashing the plot pretty much step for step. Worse, it reinforces the submissive-female gender role, despite proclaiming Ava is transforming into something better and stronger than both Archaic and Hue. Concepts which receive no further development (and never will).
This is bad but ha-ha bad. Probably one of the so bad-its actually funny YAs I've come across.
Book 2 is every bit as intriguing as the first one was. The characters are engaging, the story keeps your attention, the plot thickens. A good clean read.
I like book one but book two is a filler. About 80% the heroine was in pain and then she go dumped cause she tried protecting the h from getting killed by healing her pain. Then of course he moves on to another girl. When the new girl was introduced I pretty much predicted that he was going to be a douche. The storyline focus was all about the heroine being in pain. Day in day out for 3/4 of the book. No actions or the heroine training as much. This made me lose interest. When the action finally came I wasn't even interested anymore. When she finally transcend to be a descendant, he dumped her. I just flipped through the end and lost interest at this point since the plot was predictable already. Didn't want to read the h being with someone else the usual cliche plot. Boring storyline. I wish the author spent more time with the heroine training and being a kick as. Instead we get a heroine always having a panic attack., crying, weak, in pain, and being dumped. I give this two stars for the writing was pretty good and the emotions of the characters were shown rather than being told. I would still recommend this book but I suggest not until book three is out since it does end on a cliffhanger. I am not sure if I will buy book three since I can't stand the h but maybe I will since at the end the heroine did started showing some back bone. Maybe if Mason is more in the picture the h twin as a payback I will read book 3.
Warning review may contain spoilers if you have not read book 1, Archaic!
We start up right where we left off at the end of the last book. Ava is now becoming something totally different but the differences still keep them guessing as to what exactly that is. Mason seems to have found new ways to torture her and it makes things even more difficult.
As Ava adjusts to her new way of life she has to hide a part of who she has become and it forces her to keep more and more secrets from those she cares about that are not Archaic.
Jared is still a sweetie most of the time but near the ending there was more than one occasion when I wanted to slap him upside the head.
Being forced into so many changes in such a short time Ava is doing remarkably well although she still has her moments where it is overwhelming. She is forced to make decisions that are for the best for others but they may not make for themselves and it puts a strain on some of her relationships.
My only disappointment with this one was that it felt like the whole story was leading up to something and then it ended with another cliffhanger for the next book. I would have liked to have seen just a little bit more to the story line and although what was there definitely kept me interested I was disappointed that there wasn't more to it this time. I am interested to see what happens in the continuation to the series!
Wow, I love this book, it picks up right where book 1 finished, you must read book 1 first (there is no re-cap).
The struggles and dilemas thrown at Eva and Jared are intense and kept me eagerly reading until the very end.
This story is well written and kept my attention throughout, personally I would have liked all 3 books to be combined into one big book and for this series to be spiced up into a NA rather than a YA, having said that I am still loving this series and so ready to get my teeth into book 3.
Book 2 had me sitting in anticipation and gripping my kindle all the way through, waiting to see what was going to happen. It was an even more intense ride this time round!!! In the beginning of Hue, Ava was still very weak willed, I know she had a lot to deal with but I was really hoping she would become a little more stronger, and I did start to see glimpses of our girl getting stronger, and I could see there won't be much longer and we are going to have a very powerful woman on our hands. Oh Jared, I hoping in the next book Jared takes his head out his butt where Ava is concerned and better fix his mistake. Speaking of the next book I CAN NOT WAIT for Descendant!!!! 4* because Ava pissed me off WAY too much. I thought about giving it 3* because of her, but I still love this story and can't wait for the next one. The problem I had with Ava?
