Gottfried Keller (* 19. Juli 1819 in Zürich; † 15. Juli 1890 in Zürich) war ein Schweizer Dichter und Politiker.

Seine Lyrik regte eine Vielzahl von Musikern zur Vertonung an, mit seinen Novellen "Romeo und Julia auf dem Dorfe" und "Kleider machen Leute" hatte er Meisterwerke der deutschsprachigen Erzählkunst geschaffen. Schon zu seinen Lebzeiten galt er als einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der Epoche des bürgerlichen Realismus.
