From Here to There: A Book of Mazes to Wander and Explore

Rate this book
Sean Jackson has been illustrating and exploring mazes for his own enjoyment for more than 30 years. Inspired by art, architecture, and the natural world, his colorfully detailed mazes offer imaginative and meditative journeys through village streets, garden vistas, island habitats, castle grounds, scenic towns, and gravity-defying surreal situations—each encouraging the mind to wander while following the paths. This large-format collection features nearly 50 absorbing single-page and full-spread mazes, sequenced with increasing complexity, and includes inventive bonuses such as mazes with two paths to follow and a maze that runs on the inside covers from front to back. Solutions are provided, but for those seeking mindful activity or hours of puzzle decoding entertainment, getting there will be half the fun.

My kids LOVED these mazes. They love mazes in general, and there were some really tough ones in this book. Also, the mazes were very creative.
Received this book from LibraryThing.com for review.

So much fun! A great introduction too! Almost as entertaining as the mazes - I did use my finger before my pencil to follow through the maze. Most helpful. I loved that the mazes were inspired by architecture and the natural world and are art in themselves. You can tell this is a true artist with a passion for his craft. So much more fun than mazes I have done in the past as my imagination came to life during the process. A great gift or an afternoon treat for yourself. A good read.

An enjoyable, challenging, and beautiful book of mazes to relax (and sometimes anger) you. They range in difficulties, some taking up two pages (getting across the seam could sometimes be a challenge) others only one page. They are all beautifully drawn roads through a variety of landscapes, country paths, cities, islands, castles, and more. And for those who are easily frustrated, fear not! There is a cheat sheet in the back of the book that has every maze solved. Overall, it's a gorgeous little book and is perfect for those who love brain games and beautiful art.

This is good for my ADHD daughter and now its with an autistic friend. I think the mazes are a bit complicated especially when they take up 2 pages. The way through some mazes is very hard to see. I think its best to look through the book first before buying, to see if its more of a challenge than you think it might be. I would like to have seen more color to the scenes. Its a bit bland.

** Full disclosure: I received this book in exchange for an honest review**

At first glance the art and the mazes seem surprisingly simple, the art style is a bit cartoony and simple and blocky at times, the colors are a bit muted and when I first skimmed through the mazes mostly looked like they were all the same. However on closer look, the mazes are more involved than they first appeared and are quite challenging at times. And while the art style varies little from maze to maze, they do each have their own distinct feel and look, like their own little worlds.
The physical quality of the book is high, which is both good and bad. The nicer paper made it more of a pleasure to handle but I have to admit it felt wrong to mark up the pages as I tried to find my way around the maze. Which in turn inspired me to try tracing more of them with my finger instead of a pencil, which I found changed the way I engaged with the maze, it became more of an experience vs. a puzzle to be solved quickly and I was more willing to back track and start over, which I feel helped give it all a more meditative feel.
My only serious complaint would be that I would have liked to see more variation on color and texture in the artwork, to give the images a stronger sense of individuality and interest.
Overall fun and challenging but not stress inducing, which makes for a relaxing experience.

This book was provided to me through a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you to Sean C. Jackson, the publisher, and Goodreads for giving me the opportunity to read it. This is my honest review. No compensation was given.

This was pretty fun! There are some hard mazes in here that may take you a while to fill in. It's definitely not for young kids. The drawings were pretty cool to look at on their own as well. They are works of art!

No need to HEDGE your bets, this book is aMAZEing. I read it from START to END along the many TWISTS and TURNS along the way. I will admit I was LOST from time-to-time, but the last few pages SHOWED THE CORRECT PATH.

Seriously, I'm so used to the two-dimensional, black and white mazes published in newspapers and puzzle books, that seeing mazes with depth and presence was eye opening. The mazes are challenging and fun. What more could you want?

This was a fun puzzle book. The use of stairs and bridges was a nice change to traditional maze paths. The worlds were colorful and fun. The giant siphon was my favorite. The pages are sturdy so if you wanted to mark it up in marker you could. I chose to find the paths with my finger and use it as a coffee table book, so my guest can pick it up and use it too. Over all a nice light puzzle book to help keep the mind sharp.

Inhalt: Meditative Labyrinthe - Ausmalen war gestern. Entspannung erwandern.
