A vast improvement of the story as seen so far. Art is much better, characters are more complex and fleshed-out, the story starts out with a big punch or two, and the mark of the previous stories is still felt heavily, bearing this new tale from below.
While the charm of Go Nagai's art was a selling point for earlier entries in the franchise, this volume doesn't lack a single ounce of enthusiasm, heart, or energy. Tatsuya Yasuda, I believe, is the new artist. It really feels like the premise has been refined and leveled-up from the "saturday-morning cartoon but with gore" from the original work. I am excited to see where the story goes. I hope our heroes can keep smiling!
3.5 Stars This volume primarily introduces Go and Gai with Jin from the previous team being reintroduced as a higher up. There isn’t a big focus on Sho here, but she’s shown as capable and a little crazy, and it promises more from her in the future. This is mostly an introduction and has some silly anime stuff at the start, but it reminds me fondly of the start of the original Getter Robo and that gets really good.
Goddamn I love Ken Ishikawa. If I'm not mistaken, except from this ultra rare Getter Robo series, nothing of him ever got translated right? I need help here!
