Blair Simpson has embraced a life most people merely dreamed about. Devoting her nights as well as her days to dancing--in the chorus line of Broadway musicals and occasional TV commercials--she had never considered another career. Now an injury has sent her to a small town for six long months of recuperation. All around her are couples who are raising families and building dreams together. And there she meets a man who forces her to come to terms with a part of herself she has long denied.
From her first encounter with her new landlord, Sean Garett, the powerful sexual attraction between them catches her off guard. For the first time she's unable to lose herself in her dancing, as Sean's passion and tenderness urge her to open her life to him. More than anything, Sean wants to build a future with fiery, raven-haired Blair. But Blair's own passion for dance has ruled her for so long, she may not be able to break its hold--even if it costs her the love she had thought she'd never find.

20% DNF - NOPE! No way, FORRRRRGET about it. And this was the final straw:
"His hands dropped from her shoulders to slide under her arms and close around her back. Spreading his fingers wide, he pulled her to him, pressing her against the rigidity of his large frame. "God you're so tiny I feel like a child molester holding you this way," he murmured into her hair.
How ANYBODY got past this line is beyond me.
This author's entire body of work goes on my do not read list.
When I read one of her older books and finish it, I say to myself, "Maura, have you not learned your lesson yet?" This one was pure eighties... record players, a mustache, leg-warmers. But I kept on reading it. I probably would have loved it years ago.
Even the fact that the hero had an Irish connection couldn't save it
"Since I was Irish she thought it would be nice if I sang Danny Boy."
"Heaven's Price" is the story of Blair and Sean. Blair is a ballet and theatrical dancer, happy with her solitude in Manhattan when an injury forces her to change scenery to Long Island and she crosses path with her blonde, mustached hunk of a carpenter landlord Sean. One masseuse confusion leads to exploding passion, and soon these two are entangled in a web of love, commitment and past insecurities. Enjoyable read with good lovemaking scenes. Safe 3/5
Blair Simpson "dikerjain" tukang pijit gadungan!!!!! Mau marah jg percuma. Sean Garrett selalu menganggap menyenangkan menggoda Blair. Lama-kelamaan Blair menyerah juga terhadap "gempuran" Sean. Konflik mulai terjadi ketika hasrat Blair utk kembali menari balet. Sean keberatan krn kaki Blair msh dlm tahap pemulihan. Bisakah mereka berkompromi?
Sebenarnya sih inti cerita klise aja, kebanyakan guyonan-guyonan rada nyerempet. Part yg lainnya, so so aja. Utk ukuran novel jadul, lumayan lah.
This book alternated between being dreadfully silly and painfully boring.... I don’t think the 80’s are my decade, as far as contemporary romance goes. And I wish I’d known the hero had a moustache before I bought this book— this is incredibly offensive and absolutely ghastly. I wouldn’t have read it I known
So I think this is one of those stories that suffers from being out of its' time period. It was written in the 1980's and feels very dated reading it now. There are a number of comments and things that just wouldn't fly in today's world and make the attitudes expressed in the book uncomfortable to some degree. Not to mention that this is a pretty close to insta-lovey book and your typical guy meets girl, they're the only one for them, typical romance trope. In this case it's her that's resistant due to career rather than the guy, but you knew how it was going to end before you got there. Reading it now was just sort of meh for me. I didn't particularly care for either character and moments felt taken to extremes to generate something of contention in the story.
I started reading Sandra Brown books so long ago - probably before I really should have been (: I think my mom had a bunch around the house, and I just started reading them, and pretty soon devoured so much of what she had written! While this wasn't my favorite book of hers, I still enjoyed it. I picked this one up because I specifically wanted to read a romance. I didn't want anything dystopian, young adult, suspenseful, etc; I just wanted a romance. And that's exactly what I got. Blair is a stubborn dancer who doesn't want to give up her career in dancing. Sean is just as stubborn, but knows what he wants in life, and that includes Blair. They have a whirlwind romance, but like all couples, face challenges during their relationship. It was a short, quick read that I finished in a day. If you've read anything by Sandra Brown, or just want a quick romance, pick it up. Like I said, it's not my favorite of hers, but it was a sweet story.
Yahhhh.. Akhirnya nanti akan happy ending lah ya..
I couldn’t sleep and wanted a quick read. This was the perfect fix.
Recuperating injured ballerina Blair Simpson needed 6 months to heal her knees before going back to dancing. But her resolve to take a quiet, drama-free 6 months sabbatical was put to the test on the first day when she met her drop-dead gorgeous landlord, Sean Garrett.
This was a romantic, cheesy read with the usual old school descriptions of making love and getting intimate, but it still does the job of making my heart flutter. Sometimes I do miss these types of flowery words were the emotions are emphasised more than the act itself. I think Sandra Brown and writers in her generation like Linda Howard, Elizabeth Lowell and Nora Roberts are masters at this, with a stamp of their own creativity in wording the deed.
I love that the hero is head over heels over the heroine, but I don’t like how they solve their problems. How he professed his love too early, and how it seems like he was pressuring the heroine to make a choice. Blair, on the other hand, is spoiled and shallow. She totally hit the jackpot meeting a guy like Sean on her first day in town. It seems like men like these are rare nowadays so it’s a bit nice to fantasize about them in fiction. I especially love Pam Delgado, the best friend. I really enjoy reading books where the secondary characters are funny and down-to-earth.
Sorry for my rambling. It’s 4 AM and I’m still wide awake. I liked this book but I feel it’s an average read. 3.5 stars.
This is an older contemporary romance. I believed published in the early 80's, so please take that into consideration when reading it.
There was definitely some dated language in this story, especially toward the beginning. But I loved the overall message of the story. Sometimes life goes in a different direction than what you planned. I really enjoyed both characters and the story.
In Sandra Brown's Heaven's Price, she told us a sweet contemporary romance about second chances with a twist of Fate. For Blair Simpson, she embraced a life dancing in Broadway musicals and commercials. Due to an injury to her leg, she spent six months of recuperation in a small town. She was surrounded by couples raising families and building dreams--a part of her she denied herself. That's when she met Sean Garrett, her new landlord, when there was a smoldering sexual chemistry that attracted her to him, it caught them off guard. When she's not able to lose herself in dancing, she opened herself to Sean's passion and tenderness. More than anything, he wants to build a future with Blair, but with Blair's hold for dancing had ruled her for so long, she might not be able to break it with the love she wouldn't be able to find.
Blair is a passionate dancer whose injury has forced her to take a break. She temporarily moves to a small town where her friend lives and meets Sean, the landlord. An immediate connection occurs, yet Blair insists on resisting whatever she desires. Sean, however, does not want to give up on her, and he tries to make her feel attached to the town and to him, too. After her recovery, Blair flies to New York for an audition and returns to the small town after being rejected. Sean then hopes that she realizes that there is something worth fighting for more than dance. The book is beautifully written with shapely events. The only flaw is the unneeded detail in the beginning of the story. However, the book is interesting to read.
This book was not too bad but it's just that it's so old... maybe that's what women were like back then. I considered the outdated things as amusing and funny, like the hot sex scenes... I think the most they were allowed to say back then was "nipple"... everything was implicit, one moment they were kissing passionately and in the next paragraph they were done and VERY tired of all the love making.
Honestly this book was awful. If you're into things like oh idk having consent or not pressuring and tricking women Into sex you're not gonna like it. Gross. The man in this book is a predator.
Oh, jadi begini to, tipikal cerita harlequin?
Toh, kakimu cedera. Engkau bakal lumpuh dan terbuang. Ih, kalaupun ternyata Blair tetap ingin meraih mimpinya, ia bisa menjadi sosok lain di dunia tari. Nganu...seperti Miyuki di Silence. Lepas dari takhayul yang menyelimuti kisah itu. Ah, sudahlah, cara berpikir saya kok jadi begini banget ya? Kena cekok dorama wakakakak...
At least, lumayanlah buat nambah jumlah bacaan di reading challenge tahun ini. Apalagi setelah saya khatam manga berdarah-darah, Inuyashiki. Membaca romance dengan bumbu uhuk lumayan bikin segar. What?!!! Ngoahahahaha....
DNF!! If I could give it 0 stars and not have it look like I didn't even rate the book, I would.
I'm almost embarrassed to say that I am reading this book. I picked it for a specific reason, but I'm not enjoying actually reading it. It was published in 1983 by one of those cheesy romance publishers. Honestly, the leading male character is suppose to be this great, handsome guy, but by today's terms, he's a lecher and a creep -- more or less forcing his "romantic" intentions on the leading female character, not taking no for an answer.
And the lead female character is basically, saying no, but then letting him get away with doing what he wants anyway. And this is all "romantic"? Again, it's just creepy and doesn't speak well for a woman's choice to say no and mean it.
Maybe 40 years ago this was acceptable behavior. Or maybe this was the fantasy of a lonely housewife or a young woman looking for some "hot" romance to read, but with time and experience, it is almost unacceptable and, at not quite halfway finished, I've definitely been considering not finishing.
As a side note, I have generally been a fan of Sandra Brown's mystery/suspense books. Her early romance books are pretty much trash. I will read more of her more recent books but will steer clear of any that are romance.
ETA: I ended up DNFing this book. I just couldn't waste my time on the drivel. Maybe in the fantasies of a naive young girl, I might have enjoyed this book, but set against today's backdrop, with 40 years of time and experience in between, I just couldn't stomach it.
80s romances need to stay there. I couldn't make it past chapter 3 of this crap. The opening scenes go like this:
She, a supposedly intelligent woman used to living on her own in NYC, orders a housecall massage from the YMCA (?) then invites in a stranger who shows up with no equipment, no uniform, no ID, who never even says he's the masseur, and proceeds to get naked and massaged by him. Alone in an apartment with no phone.
He, when outed as her landlord (!) and not a masseur of any type, is unrepentant because A) he's not gay and what should any red-blooded man be expected to do around a naked, hot woman?? NOT take advantage??! C'mon! B) he never lied-lied, just misled her into letting him see and touch her naked body, C) she liked it anyway. Then he orders her to have a date with him.
Best girl friend, when told about this assault, reacts by saying "y u mad tho? He is so HAWT!!" Followed by, "he's not a pervert, he's a pillar of the community!"!!!
That's when I threw up a little in my mouth and stopped reading.
Karakter Blair membuat saya jatuh cinta.
