Most people have a fear of the number thirteen. Be it superstition or otherwise, they believe it to be unlucky. For Madison and Grant, a chance encounter, and the number thirteen, sets in motion a series of events that forever changes their paths.
Madison Thompson I’m a military brat. I’ve lived in more cities and on more bases than I can count. Friends? I’ve had plenty over the years. But those have come and gone as often has I have. I’m about to be a senior in high school… my fifth high school in the last four years. This time, it’s going to be different. My father says were here to stay. The question is… for how long?
Grant Fisher One more year. Then, I can leave this town and move on to bigger and better things. Small town life isn't for me. I want to travel the world and live in a city big enough that not everyone knows my name. There are plenty of reasons that I want to leave but only one that makes me want to stay.
I'm a Michigan girl, born and raised. My addictions include: coffee, chocolate, coffee, avoiding adulting, coffee, and coffee. My favorite season is fall. My favorite color is teal. And my favorite genre to read and write is romance. I refuse to 'stay in my lane' when it comes to my books. You'll find I write everything from young-adult to sweet contemporary to steamy new adult. #noregrets Looking for a place to start with my books? Check out A Moment Too Late (small-town second chance romance) or The Lake State University series (new adult, steamy college romance). Thanks for being here and happy reading!
Oh my this was such a wonderful story. The way one woman helps the people that are abused and helps find them a new home. When Madison is younger her mother passes away and she goes to spend a little time with her Grandmother Celia who runs this Thompson Foundation. She meets a young man by the name of Joshua who will be involved in this foundation. Where the Number 13 becomes involved I won't go into details of how the Lucky 13 comes into play you will just have to read to find out. This is such an emotional read that you can't put it down wondering what will happen next. When something happens and Tragedy strikes will Madison be able to remember everything she needs to. When she meets this young man named Grant will life take a turn with some familiar twist. Then when their life is upheaved again will Madison do whatever it takes to find Grant? Will Madison and Grant ever get their Happily Ever After? The writer goes into great details how these underground foundations are willing to help someone in need get away from danger job well done.
This story will definitely hold your attention from the first word till the last. Finding that one person who makes life worthwhile after the storm. These characters both are running from something but at the age of thirteen they both find in each the light that has been missing. Grant and Madison story goes over a span of a few years but during that time we gather a lot of information of their lives but we don’t get the full story until the end. This story was very well written and it had a lot of depth to it. These characters each have a story to be told and it gets told very well. I enjoyed the different characters and the part they each played in this story. Grant and Madison story has different twist and turns. This story is like a roller coaster that take the reader on a ride that they will not want to stop. Rachel Brownell gives an awesome emotional story that will leave a reader hooked and wanting more and more. I think this story will definitely have a lasting effect on the reader. I know it had one on me.
I'll start by saying I don't normally read books that are based in high school. Being an adult, I can't usually connect but I was drawn to this story and I wanted to read a book by this author. This book didn't disappoint at all. I'm all for young love that can blossom later on in life. Madison and Grant are so sweet together. They met when they were 12 and 13, had first kiss but didn't know what was to come. Grandma knew exactly what was coming and set up the clues perfectly. I love how this author could make a beautiful love story out of something as ugly as abuse. This is one sickly sweet book but I loved every minute of this story and can't wait to read more from this author!
Rachael is a new to me author, and this is a story that I will remember for a long time. The basis of this book had me from the very start. There are so many things that can happen in one lifetime and being able to read something that isn't a usual topic is refreshing to me. I will be on the look out for more by Rachael!
Lucky 13 was an emotional read but also really sweet. It took me a while to figure things out which kept me hooked. Grant and Madison are both so well written that they feel like real people. This is not a book I would typically read but after reading the synopsis, I was intrigued. I am so glad that I decided to read this one!
I liked the main characters of this book. I thought the love story/chemistry was believable and sweet. I had some issues with the timeline around her 18th birthday, but overall enjoyed reading this book. I would definitely recommend to others.
What a mess. I'm not sure why half the things that happened happened. I'm distributed that the author wanted us to feel sorry for Madison because her father was a parent. Sure he may have been a little stern (no dating till 18, go to college) and for whatever reason wanted the house left to her (I guess that was supposed to be the boiling point) but was it enough to have her emancipate herself? No. Plus she was turning 18 in only 3 short weeks as it was, it's take a lot longer for the paper work and judge to sign off on it than a week. Which is what happened. Then to make it even more laughable, her father was gone for work until her birthday anyway so that story line was redundant.
I also didn't understand Grant wanting Madison to lure his abusive father around (who tracked him down after 4 yrs) while him and his mom could disappear again. Yeah cause you love her so much your positive your alcoholic abusive father wouldn't dare hurt your girlfriend. Makes total sense.
And why sign a note as Joshua (name he was born with) only to keep Grant (which it was changed to after leaving dad) when you and Madison meet up again? I'm confused. The author wanted this to be a sweet romance, one where they fell in love at 13 and are destined to be together that they overcome all these obstacles but it got to be ridiculous. Thankfully I got this from kindle unlimited so no money wasted.

Omg, this one is great. This is one of those book that you just have to read. The prologue had me hooked. Madison has been through a lot. Her Mom passed away when she was young. She's moved a lot because her Dad is in the military. When her grandmother passes away, Madison is in for more changes. She a super strong girl and definitely has her stuff together of a high schooler. There are some secrets that are being keep from her but as she starts to remember things these secrets come out.
Grant is great too. There's mention of a boy in the prologue and I was like is it Grant? At points I was like is he or isn't he the same boy. Grant has a pass that comes back to cause problems.
This is a great story. Grant and Madison have a lot of things to overcome but their love is strong. This is one you should one click.
I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was hooked from the beginning with this book, it's one of those books that you can't put down once you start it. Madison has been through so much, he mother passed away and she was always moving around. She is a very strong girl, but she has a lot to deal with. There are some twists in this book that you will not see coming and they just make this story so much better. This was also a very emotional story. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I really liked this story, it had some unexpected twists and turns. I had to giggle at some of the things Libby did or said. The book made you think about alot of what ifs. What if it was you, or someone you knew going through this. I loved Rachael's writing style, very easy to read, just enough description. I would definitely recommend Lucky 13!
