Like many self-help books, Daily Negations is designed to be kept in a treasured spot, beside the bed or on top of the toilet. Read day or night, depending on one’s personal habits, its universal truths can be easily incorporated into a daily grounding routine, reminding readers that no matter how bad today was, tomorrow will be just as bad. Offering a more normal, realistic worldview, the book also makes a thoughtful gift for anyone struggling with an abundance of sunny optimism.
I would say something good about this book, but what is the point. Someone will eventually come with an opinion that is better than mine, and not only will I look like I was wrong, I will look foolish. Better to write no review at all.
Although I didn't read the entire thing (it's set up with daily entries), I've read enough to understand where it's going. It's hilarious. Here's a good entry from July 30:
"Somewhere there are people singing, and people laughing, and people crying. There is life and death and happiness and sorrow all over the world. While I think about it, I am connected to it. But it's kind of boring to think about, and I'm kind of hungry right now."
Like many self-help books, Daily Negations can be kept by the toilet and read each morning or evening, depending on your personal habits. Or it could be kept by the bed, or incorporated into ones daily prayer or meditation routine. The book serves at least two functions. First, Daily Negations will show people who have a negative outlook on life that they are not alone. Second, Daily Negations can be used by (or given to) people whose attitude in life is too sunny, too optimistic, too full of boundless strength and hope. Such people can come to a more normal, realistic world view by daily consultation of Daily Negations.
This book is a daily reminder of how crappy you are. And it's hilarious. It reminded me of "You Are Worthless," so I reread that to continue my "winter blues" kick.
