“I think your potential is infinite, as long as you don’t allow other people to define you. Not your parents, not friends, not a romantic interest. Be true to yourself. You’re strong enough to do what YOU want with your future.” How great is that?
I do love the Lumberjanes graphic novels, and it looks like I’m going to HAVE to start reading the Gotham Academy as well. Tough job, but I think I’m up for it. Lol! 💪🏻
This is a pretty good story with a genuine mystery. The LumberJanes join up with students of Gotham Academy to find the missing Professor MacPherson. The story is straight forward and well paced with a diverse and interesting cast of teenagers. An enjoyable read
So this was a lot of fun as a crossover of two fab series. I have to say this is only the beginning (hence the 3.5* instead of 4*) and I think things will get better from here on out. I do miss the wonderful artwork we have within the original Gotham Academy as the artwork here is a lot more in line with the Lumberjanes style, but as a whole it works.
This story brings the girls of Lumberjanes into an adventure where they meet Olive and the others from Gotham Academy. All of them are looking for their lost teacher and camp leader in the same wood when they bump into one another...and into trouble... 3.5*s overall, a fun start to the story!
When I first heard about the cross over, I was really excited. I really enjoyed how the two came together in a unique way! I felt the characters were able to remain true to themselves and I really appreciated that throughout this collaboration.
On another note, this is an awesome crossover- thank you for gifting us with this, BoomBox and DC. These two groups of kids are so alike, and seeing them come together is just... super duper awesome. I'm definitely going to be collecting these- it's not even that long a series, only 6 issues! Definitely recommend for fans of Lumberjanes and Gotham Academy, and people who dig Gravity Falls- the GF vibes are super strong!
Two of my favorite comics together! The story is good but I’m not impressed with the artist. Olive doesn’t remotely look like Olive. Jane from the lumberjanes doesn’t look like her either. Most of the other characters at least mostly look like what they are supposed to. I’m definitely not a fan of the internal artist. The cover artist made it seem like it was going to be awesome art. Oh well. Anyway, the story was pretty awesome. The gotham academy girls go off to the woods to rescue a professor and while they are there they run into the Lumberjanes and they immediately hit it off. I won’t go into more so I won’t ruin it but if you like either of the comics, I definitely recommend the cross over mini series which seems like it’s going to be really good. Definitely worth buying.

I was so glad when the TPB of this crossover series turned up at my library, as I'd bought the first few issues of the comics last summer and didn't know how the story ended (I don't have the discipline for pull lists-I'd be dropping hundreds of dollars every month.)
I wasn't familiar with Gotham Academy--it's one of the New 52 series I never really followed--and I didn't notice I wasn't buying straight-up Lumberjanes until the clerk pointed it out. Because evidently I can't read.
Anyway, I really enjoyed this. Typical Lumberjanes supernatural mystery, with help from the Academy kids who are in the woods investigating the disappearance of their professor. I had a little trouble keeping the large cast straight, but it was much easier on the second read. Which I had to read it twice because it was so sweet on so many levels, as is standard with the Lumberjanes: weightless, effervescent intersectional representation, using empathy to solve conflicts, the bright candy-colored art.
I thought Chynna Clugston Flores did a good job with the story here, and I prefer her alternate cover to the main one, which is a little too Disneyfied for me.
I see this Boom!Box/DC collaboration continued, so I'm going to snap up more of these. And I'm going to check out Gotham Academy too (it's apparently across the street from Arkham Asylum, which is the finest place I can think of to put a school.) I really just kind of love that the Janes and the Academy kids are friends.
Okay, so, maybe you guys already know this but apparently it helps if you are familiar with BOTH comics before reading this crossover... I was just a big ol' dummy and launched straight in.
Obviously, I am not qualified to rate this properly as I have read a lot of Lumberjanes stuff and no Gotham Academy whatsoever. I mean, I enjoyed it, but I didn't understand it.
I came into this book from a hardcore Lumberjanes-loving point of view, and was lost among all the Gotham Academy character interactions. The art was different from strict Lumberjanes art, but the characters were recognizable.
The story was average, starting out as a mystery, then playing with a 1980s theme, featuring teamwork and friendship, and then having the expected happy ending.
Not sure I would continue this crossover series. I prefer my Lumberjanes straight up, without any Gotham Academy.
I got this by accident, because there was a misunderstanding with my comic book shop. I wanted to preorder the trade and he thought I wanted the issue.
It is a good introduction into the story and how the two groups meet. So far so good. The only thing that struck me a bit odd was that I always thought April from the Janes was curvy but here she's rather skinny. apart from that, nice start of the story. I'll definitely get the trade.
I haven't read either Lumberjanes or Gotham Academy before, so I probably didn't enjoy this as much as I could have. There were just way too many characters and the art style doesn't really give them distinct faces, so once they all changed clothes, I had some trouble keeping track of who was who. Aside from a few characters, it was also hard to get a handle on their personalities.. mainly because the story zips along pretty quickly and we're assumed to already know the characters from reading their respective graphic novel series.
Story-wise, it starts off being an investigation of a kidnapping but quickly introduces supernatural elements. Although the first half was slow for me, I did like the reveal of the roots of the mystery and thought it was an interesting idea.
In terms of the art, I really liked the illustrations on the front and back covers, which is why I picked up the book in the first place, but was disappointed to find that the actual story inside was drawn in a totally different style with a less coherent and pleasing colour scheme. Some of the action scenes in the second half of the book is also hard to follow, sometimes I had difficulty deciphering what had occurred from panel to panel, like how did this character move from this position to that position, etc.
There were a few things I was intrigued by, like Molly's raccoon/hat and the whole idea of the Lumberjanes as a girl scout-type group, so I do want to check out that series. Gotham Academy's characters on the whole didn't stand out as much to me compared to the Lumberjanes in terms of their interactions, personalities, and visual design.
Lumberjanes/Gotham Academy, I believe is the first crossover graphic novel series with the Lumberjanes and Gotham Academy. So, in this story both Rosy and a professor Macpherson disappear. This is nothing new to the lumberjanes, but the Gotham students are worried. So they search Macpherson's office to find a brand new 30 year old party invitation. This is their only clue and it takes them into the woods. Coincidentally, it takes them to where the Lumberjanes are. Both groups end up meeting in the woods and soon find out that they are going to have to team up to get back the people they care about. This graphic novel is full of adventure, excitement, teamwork, humor and drama.
Since I love reading the Lumberjanes so much, it's no surprise that I liked this one too. I like the addition of the characters from Gotham Academy. I actually want to read Gotham Academy now (if my library has it). I like the story line, it's still pretty fantastical with magical beings, and well magic. But I think it was kind of cool that they involved the character Louise. Although, they never explained why Rosie got involved with the party. I don't think she even went to Gotham. Or did she? It all still remains a mystery. Which is what I like about the Lumberjanes. There's always another stone to turn.
I don’t think I’m the intended audience for this book. It is written with the assumption that you are already acquainted with the characters and general set up - I am not familiar with either series, so I found it confusing. I wasn’t impressed with the characters or storyline, but the art was ok. At one point it mentions that their phones went dead as soon as they went in the woods, so they couldn’t use their flashlights. I hope they meant the battery completely died, not that they lost signal because of their location, which is how it sounded.
I didn't know anything about this going in, but apparently Lumberjanes and Gotham Academy was two different things and this is a crossover.
The issue wasn't bad by any means, sometimes it dragged on but it's very "disney channel" or "Nickelodeon" type dialog which isn't bad by any means. The mystery of what happened to the person was intriguing and I think I'll continue on with the series to find out.
I’ve got no problem with the artist, who is very talented and tells the story, but Lumberjane stories seem to get artists who stick around for one volume or two then move on to other things. Perhaps I just miss Noelle Stevenson, who drew me into reading these girls’ adventures in the first place.
This is an acceptable thriller but the uniqueness of both teams is diminished in the telling. Only SOMETIMES are the special qualities of individual characters called on to push the action forward.
I find that the Gotham Academy characters are slightly forgettable in comparison to the zany Lumberjanes crew, but perhaps that's just me. Still, a fun crossover idea that I could see going places. Now, what if some of the Lumberjanes, during the school year, happened to transfer to a certain gloomy academy....
I got this for my younger cousin two years in a row because I have a terrible memory, and she gave one back to me. It was a quick and interesting read and while it was hard to keep track of all of the characters, having not read Lumberjanes or Gotham Academy, it was still entertaining. I will say that I am tempted to read the Lumberjanes books now.
This was much better than the last couple of Lumberjanes volumes and the addition of The Gotham Academy crew really made this a fun and unique graphic novel. I am interested in continuing this series.
Lumberjanes have consistently been a favorite of mine, but this crossover lacked the punchy, quirky dialogue that is indicative of that series. It felt more like the lukewarm Gotham Academy series. I DNF this as I didn't even find the mystery that compelling.
So I am really enjoying this crossover. I have not read any lumberjanes completely yet but I will. I am just loving all of my comics right now. This is a real girl power/ yes boys and girls can be friends storyline so far and I am loving it. Lots of spokes and adventure.
I love the Lumberjanes series so I really enjoyed this! I definitely need to pick up the Gotham Academy series to see what that is all about. The characters in that series seem cool.
I liked the art and the story of this one, I can't wait to continue with this crossover.
I loved this book!!! I really want to read more about this gotham academy group. I actually enjoyed the crossover and the mash of characters, even though I didn't know half of them. As usual with the lumberjanes it's a fantastical adventure, also nothing like a little bit of the 80s thrown in.
This was so cute! I haven't read any Lumberjanes or Gotham Academy before this book but I was still able to follow the story very easily. I would very much recommend this. I absolutely loved the story!
I've never read Gotham Academy, so I didn't know any of those characters, but I'm always down for an adventure with the Lumberjanes! The plot was a little silly though and the pace was a little slow. There were some really big text blocks in there that really halted your reading.
