Melinda Kinsman
52 books21 followersMelinda Kinsman lives on a small peninsular called The Wirral, in North West England. She loves climbing mountains and rock-climbing (both abroad, and in her local mountains of Snowdonia), and she has always had a soft-spot for cuddly toys!
As Melinda has to lie down a lot each day, due to health issues, she spends most of that time using her iPad to write and illustrate her books. (Drawing can be especially challenging, as she needs to keep the iPad steady by balancing it with one leg up in the air - much to the amusement of her family!)
Melinda originally wrote a book of poems for her 6 year old niece a few years ago, but never dreamt of trying to publish them, or of trying to illustrate them herself. The advent of ebooks and handheld tablets now makes self-publishing an exciting possibility for her!
The Top of the Wardrobe Gang series of books are credited to both Melinda and a motley crew of cuddly toy characters. This bunch of cuddly toys live on the Top of the Wardrobe - they like to call this the "penthouse suite"! They enjoy reading, and want to try writing their own books. Most of the cartoon gang characters are based on "real" members of Melinda's cuddly toy family, though some have had to have their names and appearances changed to allow their inclusion!

It's time for the annual dance in the wood. The mice carry white truce flags and bring cakes to keep the attendees well fed so that none of them will be tempted to snare an unsuspecting mouse. They bring in a shiny plank floor and the band begins to play. Spiders exchange "web addresses" and the owls keep bullies who try to break the rules in line. On the outskirts a snail and a worm listen to the music, but are afraid to join in. Then the worm gets brave enough to ask Miss Snail to dance. Can this be the beginning of a new friendship or will they need to part when dawn breaks and the truce is over for another year?
This is an adorable tale for three to six year olds. What a great bedtime story or beginning reader. The rhymes are spot on and clever; the plot line is engaging and funny. Highly recommended, definitely going on my reading list for the grandchildren.

Fun and educational rhyming story book about a midsummer dance for the animals in the woods. Young children will enjoy the rhyming verses, cute animal artwork, and engaging learning opportunities in the story, (finding/counting ladybugs), and at the end of the book (matching games, finding games, spotting differences games). This is part of the Top of the Wardrobe Gang set of books. As of July 21st this book was $0.99 on amazon.com.

The author writes beautiful books that children love, this one is magical as the little animals gather for the midsummer dance and find themselves joining together with new friends. The illustrations in this book will keep the young ones attentions while the rhyming story makes reading fun. A well done book by an author that knows what children like and delivers time and time again.

A perfect rhyming tale written and illustrated by Melinda Kinsman! "The Midsummer Dance" is a cute picture book for readers ages three to six. Delightful illustrations filled with a heartfelt story! Fun activities are added for extra enjoyment at the end of the book.
