About the author

A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.

Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.

Actually, this was cute and well done. Rhodey, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, the Uncanny Inhumans, Ms. America, She-Hulk, Blue Marvel, etc. etc. Human Torch... they all star in this.

What is great about these Marvel superhero teams is the cute banter and great interpersonal relationships. Captain Marvel and Rhodey mack, Black Panther turns around to give them some privacy and jokes about throwing up in his mask. LOL And Rhodey and Captain Marvel are cute together. The art is stunning and

I'm LOVING all the females Marvel is throwing at me. THROWING. AT ME. It seems every single one of their heroes has a female version now, AND IT'S GLORIOUS. Benefits everyone. Women get to kick ass and be awesome, men get to have more kickass babes in comics, and kids get to grow up seeing women be awesome fighter heroes! I love seeing She-Hulk and Captain Marvel take bad guys down! I love seeing Wolverine get beaten to the punch (literally) by Ms. Marvel. FUCKING A.

Is DC going to catch up on this? Unclear. They certainly pale in relation to Marvel in many respects, and after that horrible Batman v Superman film, it's not looking good... Captain America: Civil War blew that shit out of the water.

This comic also includes a teaser for The Wasp, another female badass who has studied Pym's technology and is now wrecking havoc on villains. :D

Tl;dr - A win.

Happy Free Comic Book Day everyone! This is one of Marvel’s two offerings this year and it’s the one that teases their summer event, Civil War II. Writer Brian Bendis has talked about how the title is a bit of a misnomer (and from what I’ve seen of it so far, he’s right) but it was latched onto because of the name recognition of both Mark Millar’s bestselling book and the big Cap movie that’s currently making their studio a butt-load of money!

This issue confused me about the post-Secret Wars world. When I last saw Thanos, he was encased in some kind of carbonite-type material at the end of Infinity but apparently he’s gotten free at some point (though he hasn’t gotten free of his obsession with the cosmic cube). The Avengers are at the Triskelion, the Ultimates’ HQ, which I guess somehow got saved before the Ultimates universe got blowed up? Alright.

The Avengers want to study Ulysses, an Inhuman (ugh) with the ability to see the future - and then Thanos enters Cable-style warping in with a buncha big guns. Fightin’ time! A character gets hurt (who also gets messed up in the Civil War movie) and that’s the story.

Very underwhelming stuff. Thanos’ appearance and motivations are cliched, as are the Avengers/Inhumans reaction - Thanos is the bad guy, he wants his MacGuffin as always, they fight him because they’re the good guys. The Inhumans suck because they’re substandard X-Men knockoffs but the worst part is that I’m not sure what the story of Civil War II is meant to be going by this which I thought I’d at least get an inkling of here.

The issue closes out with a Mark Waid/Alan Davis All-New All-Different Avengers story which features decades-old characters the Wasp and the Vision in the same roles they’ve always had; “new” and “different” indeed - Marvel continuing this comic’s theme of misleading titles! Wasp gives us a truncated version of how she came by her equipment and the boring story continues to leave me disinterested in this Avengers title.

Weak sauce, Marvel, but I guess it’s free so you get what you pay for! This comic was supposed to have the opposite effect but I’m now even less likely to check out Civil War II when it launches later this month. If you didn’t get your free copy, you didn’t miss much but if you’re looking to read it, it’ll be up on Comixology for free download real soon so keep an eye out there.

Civil War II gives a brief glimpse of the individual whose abilities cause a rift between heroes, Ulysses.

Ulysses is a new Inhuman with the ability to see into the future. This issue however does not highlight why his ability will cause a conflict. The story is just an OK one. Ulysses predicts Thanos's arrival and some heroes have a showdown with him.


I'm choosing to pretend the second story wasn't part of the comic because it felt dull and pointless.

Good comic book. Liked seeing the Avengers. Interesting to see Thanos. Hope She-Hulk and Iron Patriot will be okay.

First things first, this Free Comic Book Day offering from Marvel has nothing to do with the blockbuster movie currently out in theaters with a similar name, nor do I think it has much to do with the previous Civil War event. That aside, it just wasn't terribly interesting, and unlike Secret Wars #0, Marvel's Free Comic Book Day offering from last year, it did not do its job of getting me excited for the upcoming event.

So I finally read this after I got it on Free Comic Book Day 2016. I'm glad I didn't rush over it, because it was nothing special. This doesn't really shed any light on the Civil War II event, so I know nothing about that yet. But it did introduce some lesser known characters, specifically female characters that will be given more focus in future Marvel comics. That's probably the biggest positive aspect of this brief issue. I also liked the interracial relationship between Captain Marvel and War Machine. Very glad to see some diversity in comics.

I'm at least remotely interested to see where this is heading.

This free comic book covers two stories, the first one shows us the fight with Thanos and the second one is about the new Wasp. It was okay but the art was very strange well let's keep on reading.

I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.

This Free Comic Book Day issue was half a Civil War II prequel and half All-New, All-Different Avengers. Civil War II featured several characters I knew: Rhodey, T'Challa, Captain Marvel, She-Hulk and others fighting Thanos. Not much to the plot here, just a kid with psychic powers predicting Thanos' arrival and then a battle. The Avengers half was all about Wasp, who isn't the original Wasp but a thief who breaks into the deceased Hank Pym's workshop and steals his stuff. I have not been reading this particular run so I don't know exactly how this bit works into the arc of the current story. I enjoyed the artwork of both although I wish there had been more of my favorite characters.

The free comic book day edition of Civil War II is free on Marvel's website. I encourage you to read Civil War II #0 before this but to read this before you read #1. This entire arc is being set up because an inhuman can now see the future events before they happen. The Inhumans and Ultimates think this is a great way to stop possible destruction before it ever happens while Iron Man has some serious issues with it. Something happens in this FCBD edition that is super important to this entire story. It is glossed over in the first issue but this FCBD issue shows it in more detail. Pretty good. Art isn't as strong as the other issues after it though.

This issue of FCBD 2016 brings 2 really good intro story lines.

1) "Civil War II" T'challa, Captain Marvel and War Machine join forces with the Inhumans to battle Thanos. The art work is spectacular and the action furious.

2) All New Avengers "Buzzed" introduces us to the new "Wasp" with a ending panel that just blew me away

The first of Marvel's free comic book day offerings is an issue composed of two separate tales. The first is a lead-in to the Civil War II event, which shows an opening battle with Thanos, which leads to a couple of characters left in bad states.

The second tale focuses on the new Wasp, who's introduced and explains how she gets her abilities. Both stories are intriguing, but nothing that leaves you absolutely impatient for the new stories. Just teasers for upcoming moments in Marvel's comics, that's all.

I don't read the Ultimates, In-humans or even A-Force (I've had A-Force for a while but I still haven't gotten around to it) so these characters and their past storylines aren't too familiar to me. This doesn't give too much but that's because they split the issue to share with space with a look at the Wasp. What was shown didn't interest me. I already read Civil War #0 and that also wasn't too interesting. I'm not sure I care to follow this event save for when the Marvel characters I do read have their crossover issues.

I thought I'd read this as I understood it to be an entry point for the Civil War II event, but if it is then it's not a very good one. It confusingly dumps you into the middle of something with no introduction and is very short. I don't think it's the best hook that Marvel could've published for FCBD to get people into the Civil War II event. I'm going to try reading the main event line this time, I think, and see how I find it.

hey the kindle goodreads rating thing actually works

So I was browsing through my kindle app at about 1am just trying to find something to read when I came across this. I don't remember downloading it at all, I'm not sure how it got in my kindle library but. Boom. So hey ho, I'm seeing Infinity War soon so I decided to read through this.

This wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it was gonna be, if I'm honest. This seemed very rushed, the story was quite confusing, there wasn't an explanation to anything just oh thanos is coming, oh. Thanos is HERE and some fight scenes. I expected this to be a bit of a tear jerker but hey... I forgot I have to stop expecting this stuff.

I wanted to enjoy this I did but again, it was quite rushed and there was just no explanations. The artwork was enjoyable, extremely, but I think that's the only good thing this comic has, in my opinion. This could have had a lot more added to it / edited around, but it seems they just wanted to do a quick comic and get it out there. A very nice introduction to a newer character for the plot, very good artwork, but the rushed feel of the comic really let it down for me.

Worst. Dialog. Ever.

Medusa talking about credible intel? Does she talk that way? T'Challa talking about throwing up in his mask because he apparently finds idea of two people kissing to me unbearable even though this Rhodey/Carol thing is the only good thing about this book. Why is Thanos speaking and behaving like a z-list supervillain? The cosmic cube has spent plenty of time on Earth. Why does Thanos suddenly want it and believe it doesn't belong on Earth? It sure doesn't belong with him. Why does Carol think precognition is novel? Destiny, Madame Web, Blindfold spring to mind. There are many others. Garbage story with garbage writing.

The Wasp is not even worth getting into. Pointless, especially since the name is in use. Yellowjacket would have made more sense.

Two teasers

This free comic contains two reader stories. That is stories that just show you enough to get you interested but don't actually have the full story. He first is a pairing up of the Ultimates and the Inhumans fighting Thanos. The second is about a young woman that uses the recently deceased Hank Pym's technology to become the Wasp and her first act is to introduce herself to the Avengers by attacking them.

The stories looked interesting, the artwork was visually appealing, and it was free so not bad overall.

Not enough to give a clear review

This comic was over before it could get going. The story telling is all over the place. The movement and flow is slipshod and convoluted. I like good storytelling with an idea and direction and I didn't feel that here. By the time Thanos arrived I was lost because no one explained how they realised that he was going to show up where he did or that a plan was made to stop him. Let alone that one was being devised. Comic is supposed to have you flow into the story as soon as you open it. This doesn't.

At Triskelion, Headquarters of the Ultimates…

Colonel James Rhodes surprises Captain Marvel by showing up. The two have been in a long-distance relationship.

T’Challa is not crazy about the couple’s PDA.

The Inhumans arrive: Medusa, Crystal, and Lockjaw.

Some of the illustrations look a bit bootleg. When the characters are further away, they don’t really bother with facial details.

Thanos shows up, and he pretty much takes on their whole squad.

The Wasp is sad that Henry Pam is dead. But she doesn’t mourn for long.

Pretty interesting read

I really liked this, for a free comic book it had a lengthy first story, civil war II was great & featured a multitude of characters.

Wasn't as sold on "buzzed" the second story, but like i say, for a free book, pretty decent!
