Scars remind us...
That we won.

This story starts in the dark. A place of the unforgiven. Until a spark brings light, the unexpected, the accident, the gift. What if that darkness was the moment that brought a whole universe into existence. This is an emotional Sterek with all the characters carrying a heavy burden. So much loss, guilt, and penalties paid.

The ensemble interaction is spectacular, the emotions palpable, and the journey made is indescribable. DW's interweaving is strengthening, the threads spinning out like silk.

Flight:

Fight:
You know the feeling, oh so satisfying...

Flowering again:
And no trip to DWinterverse would be complete without Peter the Magician; he makes things disappear. Bless him.

Oops. Fell back into the Sterek rabbit hole, or more precisely the DWinterverse. This time the dreaded Omegaverse, and no one should be this cruel to the Sheriff or Stiles or Derek.

Looking at you, Lisa.

Thanks to the huddle for sharing the anxiety, the wild speculation and most importantly the LOVE.
And many thanks to DW who teases but is always so good to us.

My favourite until the next one! ;)
All the emotions and they all felt genuine, moments that you can understand and believe in.

Jordan Parrish makes a refreshing narrator, a step outside the drama yet a fully realised character that brings us in and makes us care.
And Peter is AWESOMESAUCE whenever you think he can't outdo himself...yeah!

Family. PACK. Laughter LOUD and free.

New story, new huddle, support is going to be needed!

Vivian our fearless leader is busy but will undoubtedly find time to click and visit. So -Henry Survivors Club- huddle in comments thread. All welcome - don't wait to be invited simply shout Hi and you're in!
We have tissues, cushions, treats, booze and there shall be hand holding. This story will call for all of those I think...

The thing about DW is that she is able to (it seems like) effortlessly weave these Teen Wolf stories around the canon but do it worlds and universes better than Jeff Davis could or has.

I loved the POVs in Empty from Jordan, Stiles, and John. The story flowed beautifully, the characters were well-fleshed, and the feels were plentiful.

Brava!

P.S.: I wouldn't mind seeing a follow-up quickie for this situation...

"You know me, John," Peter says, his smile turning wicked. "I'm full of surprises."
John rolls his eyes, but can't stop the little huff of laughter escaping him.

*sniff* Could you pass me a tissue?

Geezus. That ripped out my heart, stomped on it, and stabbed it several hundred times for good measure.

Suffice it to say, DW knows just how to weave a tale while wringing all the feels out of you. This werewolf AU incorporates A/B/O dynamics, and starts off with what might’ve happened that fateful night when Stiles and Scott went in search of half a body in the woods. Beloved characters (Sheriff, Peter, Laura) all make an appearance and you’ll love them even more. Little used character, Parrish features prominently and he’s fully realized, and I’m not ashamed to say I wouldn’t mind a little more fics with this guy in it. (Um, have you seen the body on him?? If not, go watch season 5. No joke.) And not so beloved characters also make an appearance, mainly in the form of Gerard Argent, whose depravity and evil are brought to new and worse levels of low.

Of course what makes this so special is the love between our two main guys, because that’s what it’s all about! Add their child into the mix, and the emotional toil just garnered a few extra thousand pounds. So I may be lamenting how painful this read was, because it was, but it’s about surviving and living and healing which is the best winning revenge there is. And that’s what brings a smile to my face in the end.

Just don’t forget the tissues.

So this is the first fic that I have continually read and finished as it was being written. And with my busy schedule lately, I kind of appreciated the short chapter installments.

Let's talk Jordan Parrish. *taps fingers on table* For me, reading a fic from Jordan Parrish's POV is like watching a documentary about C-SPAN on C-SPAN. Jordan Parrish is just a dull character. He's played by Ryan Kelly - a total douche bag. (* side note: Did it trip anyone else up that the kid in this is named "Ryan" - with Ryan Kelly playing Jordan, I just associate Jordan with the name Ryan and the fact that Ryan was a separate character in this threw me off a few times.) He's dull on the show, he's even more boring than Danny and Danny I find dreadfully uninteresting. The only character on Teen Wolf that Jordan Parrish is possibly more interesting than is Laura Hale ... who of course is alive and well to star with Jordan in this fic. Of course.

So that's my perspective before I picked up this fic ... and unfortunately Discontenedwinter's talent wasn't able to change my perspective on that. Jeff Davis's Jordan Parrish is bland, Discontendedwinter's Jordan is bland (so I guess she nailed him). However Davis killed Laura in the first episode, Laura makes it to the end in this fic. Of course she does.

What earned this three stars is Derek and Stiles. I may have at times skimmed and even snoozed through Jordan's POV, but DW has a knack for torturing her central love interests in a uncomfortably contrived forced circumstance with delightful angst and a soothing HEA.

So even though I'm not a Laurdon(?) Joraura(?) fan, the Sterek had my attention.

Thanks to the Henry Survivors Club for moral support.

As per the usual, DW was able wrench all of the emotions from me. Anger, devastating heartbreak, and unspeakable joy were felt at one point or another. I did not want this to end.

Reread 7/28/2018 why I chose to reread this KNOWING I’ve been an emotional wreck, I’ll never know. This was just as heartbreaking as it was the first time. It’s also still just as hopeful and full of love by the end

reread 2/17/2021 it’s like I never learn from my mistakes. I know I need emotional support and virtual hand holding when reading any of DW emotionally devastating books. Sheesh.

reread 11/27/2021 because I'm a glutton for punishment?

Another fantastic Sterek from DW. I cried actual tears. Not what I'd call a relaxing read, but I couldn't put it down.

And suddenly Parrish feels an ache inside him. He wants to meet the kid that Stiles was then. The kid who refused to be corralled into the narrow spaces of other people’s expectations. The troublemaker who pushed back.

Universal.

Y'aaaaaaaaaall, this fic, this fic! Holy crap. Thirty three chapters of fawesome.

The character arcs, the utter heartbreak, the pack love, and Parrish often as narrator... brilliant!

I wanna meet and play with Ryan.

I wanna see Derek's smile.

I wanna watch Stiles rediscover and build new talents and confidence and love.

I wanna see John realize it's ok to go easy on himself.

And I wanna see Peter help John.

And I wanna know if Parrish becomes the alpha's right hand man. I think he does.

Dark, dank, hopeful, and so full of love and potential and emotions, I freakin love this story. Wow.
It could go on for 333 more chapters, with so many offshoots. WOW.

Thank you to the survivors group for another fantabulous read and thank you, Lisa, for this unforgettable story.

Sometimes I think I'm Stereked out and then I read something like this.

The characters, the storyline... all wonderful. I had something to look forward too after another 8 hours of fun in retail.

And I got to squeeze out a few tears (mostly of joy) which is good for my heart too.
I await the next DiscontentedWinter masterpiece.

Fabulous!! This is one of my favorites from DW! It’s Sterek and rather dark. We also get the very interesting POV from Parrish.

This one flips back and forth in time from Scott and Stiles running off to go look for half a body to five years later—and they’ve been quite the years for Stiles and company.

I can always count on DW to get me out of a book funk!!

An excellent angst-filled ride. Omega Stiles and wolf Derek are abducted by the evil Gerard and have been missing for five years. Told from Sheriff Jordan Parrish's pov and from Stiles' pov in flashback.

Sterek Fanfic. At the risk of getting flamed, I have to admit I've never watched Teen Wolf (ducks and covers). I have to say, after reading this, I feel like I've been missing out. I don't have anything to judge as far as knowing the actual characters, but this is a well written story with lots of feels, and really fantastic characters. Loved it from start to finish.

Ok, I have to say this first. Why fix John with Peter? I get that it would have been slightly awkward with Peter and John alone while everyone else was coupled but their match didn't sit well with me. I don't get what would have drawn them to each other, never mind there was never any indication that John swung that way.

Now what I liked about the story. I very much like the combative spirit of everyone in the story. Yes, they are dealt a very crappy hand by fate but they choose to fight it, to not get discouraged, to keep looking for a way to get to their happily ever after. Jordan Parrish was a wonderful addition to the voice of the story. His view managed to both give an overview of each character but still leave them room to develop and expand emotionally. It was even better when he was slowly encompassed in the pack and got emotionally involved. As a reader, we slowly entered the fray of the search and rescue of Stiles and Derek.

Stiles and Derek... *happy sigh* DW knows how to paint these 2 characters. There is such strength between them, such conviction, love and commitment. Admittedly, I have not read all of her stories (as I focus mostly on Sterek) but in the ones I have read, these 2 find a way to unite against whatever is thrown against them. They have a steel core and the resolve to overcome any hardship they encounter. Despite being kidnapped by Gerard and forced to mate with a werewolf, Stiles falls in love with Derek and that is just the start of their rebellion against Gerard's imprisonment. Despite the torture inflicted on him, Derek did not hurt Stiles or force himself on him. The only exception was the claw marks he gave him in the hopes of helping Stiles escape.

And the writing style was brilliant too. Interlacing past and present, the reader has a chance to learn more about each character, gets attached and invested in the story. And though, it doesn't look very big, there is enough room for all the major characters to expand to 3D personalities and make the reader care about them.

And there are a thousand other little things that are worth mentioning and praising the author for. Like the moral debate over how they handled Gerard and his group of hunters; the guilt over doing or not doing something and how only time will erode the feeling enough for happiness to take over completely; the slow process of getting used to and enjoying freedom again; the way to raise a child after keeping him confined. It's such a complex world and cast of characters and yet, the story ended way too soon.

Nicely done yet again DW!

6.11.16 - Re-reading this as it's a TW fan fic kind of weekend.... I'd forgotten how much the 'quiet as a mouse' game seriously pissed me off and upset me at the same time...

Okay here goes...... chapters 1 - 6 is today's lunchtime reading (9.6.16)
*stiffens upper lip*
I shall not cry, wail, hide under the desk.....

eta... this one is going to require serious chocolate therapy during reading

Up to chapter 8... ah ha... that's who kidnapped Stiles... and I guess the monster in the woods would have been Peter... hummm.... *waits impatiently for the next instalment*

Chapter 9.... ooh interesting dynamics... I like Laura and Peter (no surprise there)... I just started watching series 4 so am getting to know Parish so it's nice reading him here too.... I wonder how busy DW's weekend is.. and if she accepts bribes for more story..

Ch 10.... oh Derek... capture were but still a gentleman... I have a problem with hating Gérard.. I kind of understand his position.. he's been trained and lived his life to kill shifters, there is conditioning there, he's lost family, as much as you can point and say 'psychopath' really is it so surprising? Is it any more surprising than Peter being as he is??

All caught up to Chapter 13.... *paces impatiently around the review waiting for more*

Up to Chapter 19...... the feral wolf... that's got to be Peter... hasn't it... *crosses fingers* ... and of course he's not doing anything evil to Stiles, they are just acting.... yes, definitely, just acting.... and "all hell breaking out" is not a bad thing, not for the good guys, cos they are all going to be okay... aren't they...... erm..... emergency blanket and chocolate please??

up to chapter 22 before 8am on a Sunday... cos sitting sobbing at the kitchen table is an attractive way to start the day...

Okay then... up to date as at 20th June... but the whole "this is the one last thing" *looks sideways at DW* Really? Really?? We can trust you on that *raises eyebrow*

I read the initial open-ended short version, chapter 20 in Word Soup. That is chapter 1 of this amazing and well-developed story. When I was about halfway through this I wondered what all the 'tear-jerker' tags were about. It was good but there was also a slight distance to it, perhaps because of the format that moves back and forth through time.

But it was actually once things were resolved that my heart started getting torn out. It's like how when you get a papercut, the healing can actually hurt worse than the injury as skin starts to come together. You'll be stronger for it, and it's necessary, but that doesn't mean it's not painful.

I absolutely loved the addition of Parish here and everything that it entailed. What a great ensemble cast. We got an amazing HEA that was believable and very Pack oriented, which I always like. Even if one tiny detail didn't gel for me

One tiny detail in the set-up also bothered me, because it's kinda stupid, and Stiles is anything but stupid. But I can recognize it's necessity for creating an actual story.

When fanfiction is just so good, it doesn't just break your heart, it crashes it and doesn't even leave the dust behind...
That's this story right here.

I'm not a fan if Teen Wolf. I tried watching songs of season 1, but it wasn't my cup of tea. But I was curious about DiscontentedWinter's stories since they kept popping up on lists on Goodreads. I read this story with the imagery of Teen Wolf but as if it was an original story. And even though I don't really read mm werewolf stories, I really liked this one. It was surprisingly well written and captivating.

I have mixed feelings about this story. I prefer regular Sterek fanfics without kidnapping and imprisonment. Plus, I did not feel chemistry between Laura and JOrdan. At all.
