What an exciting new addition to the Wildnerness, Inc. series! Undercover Protector is book two in the series, but it reads as a stand alone novel.
Something sinister may be going on at the tiger sanctuary that Gemma Rollins manages. I found this to be such an interesting and creative plot for the book. The author did a good job of making me second guess who could possibly be behind the strange happenings at the sanctuary. When the mishaps began to become more deadly, the tension ramped up.
Adding to the uncertainty is the growing chemistry between the main characters. Both Gemma and Gray had good reasons to guard their hearts, plus Gemma also struggled a lot with her faith in God. Undercover Protector is a great choice for those who enjoy romantic suspense.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Undercover Protector ( Wilderness, Inc. Book 2 ) By: Elizabeth Goddard Undercover Protector is book two in Wilderness , Inc. series. This book can be read as a stand-a-lone with out any problems. Gemma loves her tigers at the Sanctuary. She is trying to rebuild after her parents and uncle died, but she is having to many accidents. Are they accidents are is someone trying to kill her? Grayson will do anything to protect Gemma, but what is he not telling her? This story has so much action , so be sure and take timeout to breathe. I was given a copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All options are my own.
Wildlife trafficking is the theme behind this action packed adventure filled with intrigue, danger, and mystery!!! The setting is in the Southern Oregon wilderness. It takes place at a wildlife sanctuary for tigers. You will feel as if you are right there in the action due to the vivid description. The owner is Gemma Rollins. The previous owner was her uncle who was killed in a car crash in which she survived but was left with a severe limp. Prior to her uncle's death, her parents had owned and run the sanctuary but they were both killed in a plane crash. Odd coincidences??? Now someone is sabotaging the sanctuary!!! Undercover wildlife agent Grayson Wilde is volunteering at the sanctuary to track down the trafficking ring. He is under the assumption that Gemma must be part of this operation Then several attempts are made on her life. What does this mean??? Colorful characters, a tale of deceit, murder, killing wild animals for body parts plus a story of learning to trust, romance with many faith references and spiritual reflections that will embed themselves into your memory. This is book # 2 in the Wilderness, Inc series. It can be read as a stand alone.
Another great page turner that starts with Gemma driving to work in the rain only to find out her car isn't working properly on the mountainous road! Gemma has finally achieved her lifelong dream of owning a Tiger Sanctuary that fulfills her parents' dream of rescuing these wild animals as well as her uncle's dream. Unfortunately, her family died and now it's just her keeping the tigers safe. With someone trying to sabotage her property, will she ever be able to trust anyone?
Special Agent Gray Wilde is undercover and about to interview for a volunteer position at this Tiger Sanctuary when he runs into Gemma being in trouble. Does Gemma realize there's a wildlife trafficking ring going on and will Gray be enough to protect the innocent in this investigation?
Gemma has a limp and must use a cane, which slows her down in the story but doesn't make her any less of a protagonist to the story :) She is passionate for her cause protecting and nurturing the tigers, keeping them safe, and honoring her parents' legacy. She feels safe with Gray, but isn't sure if he's really trustworthy.
Gray is a superb hero even though he has his own trust issues going on. Every time there is trouble with the Sanctuary and Gemma, he is right there to help out all the while making sure the tigers are always safe. I wish there had been more scenes with the wild animals in this story, but they are described tangibly and it was a real treat to learn about them in this book!
"Tigers were worth more dead than alive, their parts bringing money in excess of a hundred grand, thanks to the demand for traditional Asian medicine. All it took was finding a buyer on the black market and someone needing money could easily make it in spades. Gemma Rollins might be standing in the way of that. If Gray discovered her life was in danger, he would not only work undercover, but serve as her protector."
Really enjoyed the ending and how Cooper has a nice moment with Gray. It felt to me that Gemma kept losing her cane throughout the story, but was glad she found other ways of getting around while danger was in their midst. Another great story from Goddard that will keep those pages turning!
Thanks to the author for the review copy provided. I was not required to write a positive review, the comments and opinions are my own.
Gemma Rollins’s dream came true the day she was able to open her Tiger Mountain sanctuary. That is until bizarre things start happening! Special agent Grayson Wilde takes a volunteer position working undercover to bring down the head of a wildlife trafficking ring targeting the tigers in her sanctuary. With danger mounting every day and threats escalating, can he protect both her & the big cats? Or will time run out before he can achieve that goal?
Tigers & lions & bears, oh my…..well minus the lions and bears that is! Both Gemma and Gray have a special place in their hearts for tigers and both want the same thing. To preserve the dwindling population of the big cats through education and also to stop the illegal selling of their body parts for profit. I learned a lot through this book, the unfortunate truth on how much criminals can gain monetarily to sell & destroy these beautiful creatures on the black market—especially for Asian medicine. So I was especially invested in this story due to my own love of tigers. As for the suspense, it gained fast momentum as the threats escalated—effigies left in prominent places Gemma would find them, tigers being let loose of their habitats, and the various ways someone tried to kill her. There were many twists to this story & I enjoyed reading them all! Both Gemma and Gray have trust issues due to past things and must overcome them in order to work together to bring the persons responsible to justice. Romance, fast paced suspense, surprise twists, and faith-filled characters all conspire to bring the reader a book impossible to put down!
I loved reading what the author wrote at the end of the book: “We live in a fallen world and bad men do bad things, but we know that God is always there working things out for good on our behalf. Don’t ever forget that. If you struggle with knowing this, ask Him to open the eyes of your heart. It is always my hope and prayer that my stories will entertain you and provide a powerful emotional experience, but more importantly that they will bring you closer to the One who holds you.”
*I received a complimentary copy by the author. I was not required to leave a favorable review and all opinions expressed here are strictly my own*
Set in the wilds of Southern Oregon, Elizabeth Goddard’s latest release takes readers just outside of the Rogue River Wilderness. And what a unique setting it is! In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book set in a wildlife sanctuary before. And Undercover Protector takes readers into one built to house endangered tigers.
If you have read the first book in the Wilderness, Inc. series, Targeted for Murder, you briefly met Grayson “Gray” Wilde. And if you haven’t read the first book, you’ll want to grab your copy before it’s gone. A long-awaited lead has Gray heading to an interview for a volunteer position at the nearby sanctuary, but before he makes it, he rescues the woman in charge. Gemma Rollins is determined to get her tiger sanctuary up and running in honor of her family’s legacy. With threats to her beloved tigers that escalate to threats on her life, Gemma is running out of time. Her new volunteer has proclaimed himself her protector but can she trust him?
Goddard’s story will hook you from the first page as the action and danger are immediate and ramp up from there. I loved that there were so many unique attributes to this story—the setting for one, but the heroine has a slight disability and Gray’s job is so unique I didn’t even know there was such a position in law enforcement.
I enjoy these books from Love Inspired because they’re fast reads but always well written and worth the time spent with the characters.

I have been reading books by Elizabeth Goddard for years. I love her detailed ability to weave words together that bring both setting and characters to life for me.
This book is the second installment in the new Wilderness, Inc. series which is set in southwest Oregon surrounding the Rogue River. The place literally explodes to life on the pages with the wonderful use of imagery.
She introduces us to USFW Special Agen5t Grayson Wilde and Gemma Rollins. This plot is fast paced and flows effortlessly. This story deals with the tough issue of wildlife trafficking. Grayson is going undercover at Tiger Mountain to investigate the latest rumors of wildlife trafficking and to find the person who murdered a fellow agent. Gemma is the founder of the tiger refugee and has been dealing with problems of sabotage at her sanctuary.
As the story opens Gray rescues Gemma just before her Jeep is swept down the mountain side. After a less than desirable meeting Gemma hires Gray as a volunteer at the santuary, but the answers Gray is looking for appear to be just out of reach. The deeper he digs the more involved he becomes in Gemma's life and starts to suspect that her life is possibly in danger. Suddenly answers are not as important as protecting her life.
This is a wonderful adventure and kept me turning the pages until the end. The plot is very intriguing and kept me guessing until the end. This is the second book in the series, but for me this is also a stand alone story and one I would recommend to anyone who loves suspense.
I received this book from the author via the publisher. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Gemma is very protective of the animals in her tiger sanctuary. Mysterious happenings have occurred for a while now, including death and destruction of property. Realizing these things are not coincidences, Gemma wonders who she can trust. Gray comes to the property with the premise of volunteering. He has an agenda of his own. Is he being truthful? Her faith in God has been tested and now, her life is in danger. What will happen to the tigers, to Gemma and to Gray? This story is fast paced and it kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to quickly turn the page to find out what happened next. I recommend this story for anyone who enjoys reading adventure, mystery and reading about faith being restored. I received a copy of this story from the author and this is my own personal opinion.
Undercover Protector slowly builds to a gripping crescendo and keeps you intrigued all the way. The tightly woven plot is full of unexpected twists and turns...putting the main characters in dangerous life-threatening situations that will have you holding your breath!
Grayson Wilde is the brother of Cooper Wilde who we met in the first Wilderness Inc. book. He is working undercover at Gemma Rollins's tiger sanctuary and believes Gemma might be involved in animal trafficking. However, his undercover stint becomes deadly when someone sabotages Gemma's tiger sanctuary and tries to kill her. Now, he must protect Gemma and at the same time find out who is behind the brutal attacks!
Undercover Protector is an intriguing tale! I really enjoyed the uniqueness of the setting and found the work at the tiger sanctuary to be quite interesting. Goddard’s imagery is vivid, pulling me into the animal enclosures where the roars of the big cats echoed in my ears.
Gray and Gemma’s story is a great blend of action and suspense, and danger escalates with every turn of the page. A fight for survival until the very end, Undercover Protector is an exciting addition to the Wilderness, Inc. series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. No review was required, and all thoughts expressed are my own.
Exciting book! I read it in one evening, just couldn't put it down. The setting with the tiger sanctuary was unique and enjoyable. Two small things did bug me. Not enough to knock a star off but it bugged me. That Gemma let the silent partner move the tigers without a fight. Someone so passionate about her tigers just rolling over and wimping out? Didn't like that And second. The marriage proposal at the end. Too sudden! This literally took place in the span of a few days! You meet someone and days later, proposing? That's crazy! I know it's fiction but....come on?!
This is the second book in the Wilderness, Inc. Series. I love Elizabeth's books, don't you? This book is well written, action packed, and full of adventure. I loved it and I know you will too. Gemma Rollins is trying to build a tiger sanctuary. Her parents had operated one but until they died in an accident. Her uncle had taken over the care of the tigers until he died in a car accident. Gemma wasn't old enough or capable to run it but now she had a degree and a private investor. She has an inspection coming up soon that she must pass to open. As she returns to the sanctuary her brakes go out on her Jeep; it looks like she's going to go over the mountain edge. Suddenly a man shows up and rescues her. Undercover Special Agent Grayson Wilde is convinced that Gemma Rollins is involved in a wildlife trafficking ring so he goes to the sanctuary to volunteer there. His first experience is to save Gemma's life. He soon realizes that Gemma is the victim here and unless he figures out what is going on she will be killed. These two each have issues from there own past that they must overcome to survive. God has a plan for these two even if they can't see it. It's a plan for a hope and a future. He is working things out even when they don't see it. God has a plan for you too. Surrender your heart to Him and watch Him work in your behalf.
If you enjoy a short, light-weight, exciting suspense story that isn't filled with sex, violence, and language, this is a book worth considering. If you're an animal lover like me, this is even more true.
My wife has brought home some of the Harlequin type romantic suspense. Some grabbed her more than others, and this was not one that grabbed her. But I glanced at the back cover plot-synopsis, and when I saw it was set at a Tiger Rescue, I picked it up and started reading. And keep reading.
There are parts that are predictable, but the characters were interesting and the plot kept you on the edge of your seats. It briefly deals with faith issues (particularly prayer and trusting in God when things don't go according to plans), but also more with the need for animal conservation.
This is the second of a series (hopefully not the last), but you will not feel lost reading it without reading the first (I haven't read the first yet), nor are there enough spoilers in it that would diminish enjoying the first in the series.
I found this book very enjoyable and would recommend it for someone who wants a short, leisurely read.
I thought Undercover Protector was a really great book. Its the second installment of the Wilderness Inc. series by Elizabeth Goddard, but it works as a stand alone book. Gray has to infiltrate a tiger santuary and find out who's behind a huge smuggling ring, one that goes back for years. He's determined to bring them down and get justice for his friend and mentor. He's unsure if he can trust Gemma, the santuary's founder. Afterall, how can one run an operation of such size and not know what is happening on the side? After several attempts are made on Gemma's life Gray realizes what's really going on. Gemma isn't behind any of it, but its clear the master mind wants her out of the way. Even if that means Gemma has to die. Gray has to fall back on all of his training , and must rely 100% on God to get them through this situation alive.
When I first met Grayson Wilde as a secondary character in Elizabeth Goddard's last book, I knew right then that he needed a book for himself! Indeed he did.
Elizabeth Goddard writes fast paced Christian Romantic Suspense and does it very well. The action rarely lets up, giving the reader little time to breathe between gasps of surprise. Truly. I did a lot of gasping in this one. What a ride. And one of the culprits was a total shock!
I highly recommend her books. This one releases December 1, 2016. Grab it while you can. Don't miss out!
* I was given a preview copy of this book. My review is my own honest opinion.
I have read newer books by this author so I started checking out her older LIS Harlequin books. I love "series" books so fortunately I was able to find all 4 books in this Wilderness Inc online to read even though this is an older series (2016-2017).
This series is set in Oregon and although each book in this series has its unique story and characters, they all tied back together with characters from the Wilderness Inc. company.
I loved each unique story-the characters, the romance, the fast paced suspense! I highly recommend this series and this author if you haven't read these books! I read each book in less than a day because they were so fun and easy to read.
Special Agent for US Fish & Wildlife Gray Wilde is going undercover as a volunteer at a tiger sanctuary to expose a wildlife trafficking operation when he finds owner Gemma Rollins pinned in her wrecked Jeep in the middle of a mudslide. He soon figures out she is not the mastermind but a target and determines to protect her while investigating. Lots of good info on tiger sanctuaries and a solid story.
When i started reading the first book i couldn't put it down the suspense and romance was a perfect balance the second book definitely did not disappoint if the third and fourth book are anything like the first two you will not be able to put them down.
This is an excellent story about a tiger sanctuary where something nefarious is happening. What I thought was going on is not what turned out to be true. Gemma is being betrayed which she never anticipated from the person behind things. An excellent romantic suspense.
This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the second book in the Wilderness, Inc. series. I have not read the first book in this series before picking up this book. I found this book just ok.
All Femme wants us for her tiger sanctuary to be a place where tigers can be safe. But strange happenings are starting to worry her. First, someone may have tried to kill her. Now threats are coming to get her to abandon her land. Then a fire starts and one of her employees are dead.
Grayson can't risk revealing his true identity to Gamma that he's a special agent who has been sent to investigate a possible tiger smuggling operation. But he soon finds his loyalties torn when it comes to saving the tigers or saving Gemma.
This book is appropriate for ages 13 and up for mild violence.
