Not my favorite by Jodie Bailey, but still good. The cover threw me for a major loop; the hero and the heroine are both described differently. He's military (obviously not a guy with an overlong forelock) and she has short, silky black hair, which is cut straight...this cover wasn't even a good try. If you can't find decent models, just do a shot from the back or something, or a nature shot!

Anyway, the mystery itself was pretty good and had layers of clues to decipher, but it simply wasn't a huge favorite of mine.

This was my first book by Jody Bailey, but it won't be my last. Suspenseful from the first paragraph and the action continues throughout the book. Her characters seem real and the plot believable. I thoroughly enjoyed this!

Kristin James life takes a deadly turn when she’s attacked during her routine morning jog. It especially rattles her when the would be killer mentions her brother’s name and wanting something he supposedly left with her. Sergeant First Class Lucas Murphy & Travis Heath happen upon the scene scaring off her assailant. Ordered to protect her & find out more about her brother Kyle James, Lucas dogs her every move as the danger increases. Will the truth about her brother break her or send her to her knees in surrender to the One who can heal the past?

Headstrong, stubborn, and tough-as-nails is how I would describe Kristin. She’s a foe to be reckoned with her job as a personal trainer, but each attack weakens her. Going through a violent childhood, the walls around her heart are thick and impenetrable. Lucas, wanting to play protector, soon learns to give her space and room. I love seeing these two work together and trust being built. I also love how Lucas shares his faith and how it’s gotten him through tough times. The suspense, wow, it kept me turning pages and guessing right to the end! Action packed, full of twists & turns, faith-filled, character depth and slow-burning romance make this a fantastic story not to be missed!

*I received a complimentary copy of this by the author. A favorable review was not required and all opinions expressed here are strictly my own*

What a great story! From the first scene, I was drawn in and captivated by the strong characters and heart-pounding action. I love that the heroine is a personal trainer and able to take care of herself, but so broken on the inside. The hero, Lucas, also has his share of demons, but he is learning to leave them in the hands of the only One who can truly heal him. Together, they make a formidable team, along with his military buddies. The plot kept me guessing on who was after Kristin and why. I loved the action and the emotional aspects of this story, and I hope to read more about some of the minor characters in the future. They will have interesting stories to tell as well!

Another good one from Jodie. While it wasn't my favorite of hers, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. And not being my favorite of hers still ranks higher than many other books I have read.

I love books with strong woman characters and this book did have that. Strong and stubborn-stubborn where you wanted to beat her over the head at times.

I like that Kristin & Lucas already were building a foundation of friendship before all the madness began and it was easy to root for them to get over their obstacles.

Going to begin the next of her books, Calculated Vendetta this week!

Dead Run by Jodie Bailey starts out with a bang. Kristen James is on her morning run when she’s attacked. Sergeant First Class Lucas Murphy comes to her aid. The attacker is after something that her brother apparently stole from the bad guys. Kristen has no idea what they are after. Murphy tries to keep Kristen safe without letting her know all the information on her brother. This story reminds us that not everybody is who we think they are. They may be family but we can’t overlook their behavior. We just have to keep loving them.

Kristin James is attacked on her morning run and manages to fight the guy off just as Sergeant First Class Lucas Murphy and his friend show up. Lucas thought he was doing his duty by running the attacker off but instead he realizes she’s more upset by the inconvenience of the whole situation. As the attacks increase though they both know they have to start working together or they may not survive to figure out what’s going on and who’s behind the attacks.

Jodie Bailey's Dead Run might be my new favorite of her many books! Complex characters. Gripping plot. And a spiritual message that delivers the freedom to surrender. The romance was believable and sweet. The action was non-stop. The dialogue--as always--witty. I highly recommend this story if you're looking for high-impact action and a strong romance wrapped into one great book.

A good mix of suspense and romance. Jodie Bailey did a very good job writing about the army and things that happen - both the good and the bad - and adding in a budding romance between the two main characters.

This is my first Jodie book, beginning was good, but then after a 60+ pages I started to feel disconnected with the main characters. Some things were slightly repetitive and then I just lost interest because things weren't moving fast enough.

She brushes off the attack but he is determined to keep her safe. When he learns who her brother was he is even more concerned. This man was mixed up in a smuggling ring he was investigating. How can he keep her safe, do his job, and not fall in love with her?

He never leaves us

Kristen thought that God had left her, her father was abusive to her and her mother. Her brother had been out of her life for years. A little while before he was killed by a sniper she thought he was trying to build a relationship with her, she has been attacked and the attacker wanted to know where is the stuff that Kyle left. Was her brother using her? Lucas was lost for a while doing a lot of destructive thing before a chaplain directed him to Jesus. Now he want to help Kristin, she kept pushing him away telling him she can handle it. But we all know without God we can handle nothing. This book has attempted murder, murder, breaking and entering and a lot more. Very good read.
