Cass is an accomplished public speaker and business owner, and I was first introduced to Warrens work during one of his webinars on how to raise your profile. The webinar was highly stimulating and thought the book would be a natural extension to familiarise myself with Warren's work and help to sink in the knowledge.

Early in the book Author points out that “I will not waffle or give you 10 examples of a point where one will do. I respect your time too much (…) I’ll assume you have some common sense and a healthy level of ambition…” and the promise is definitely kept throughout the entire book. At places author just lists things without any further explanations or examples on how this and that could actually be implemented. Comparing to Dale Carnegie’s Influence and Tony Robin’s work I found it rather basic.

Every chapter author lists questions for reflection that you should be answering in writing. However, there is no space left for doing so and therefore author refers the readers to his website to download a printable A4 booklet with space for notes and answers, which is 65 (!!!) pages long. I’ve printed the first 20 pages, because I was determined to do every task set in the book and answer every question, however it was a labor of work as you need to get back to your printed papers (or screen) every 3-7 pages. It’s a shame because if the reader doesn’t choose to work through the chapter questions there isn't much benefit as these questions make up a significant part of the book.

Overall the book is fun, simple, motivational and easy to read. There were many valuable ideas that are most certainly worth revisiting and I particularly enjoyed information on the importance of story telling, demonstration of expertise and the benefits of blogging. But for someone who wants a more comprehensive understanding on influence I’d recommend the classics such as Carnegie and Cialdini first.

A friend recently read How to Win Friends and Influence People and highly recommended it. While I was searching for it at the library I found this and thought I'd give it a go.

First of all, this is extremely business focused, whereas I understand that How to Win Friends has a more general approach, so I would suggest that, unless you are very into your Wolf of Wall Street/sell me this pen style business 'wisdom', you probably wouldn't find much use in this book.

I am not starting my own business, nor do I find myself particularly in need of such advice but I had started the book and was feeling open- minded so I continued on anyway.

The next point of note is that the author uses smileys. Actual smileys. Multiple times. I don't know whether this was a way to make his advice seem less intimidating (it's not particularly complex so I don't feel this would be necessary) or because he had so mastered his own bullshit that he knew people would buy his book no matter how crap just because of his networking abilities. Ugh.

The redeeming quality is that this is great motivation. If someone can get a book published with smileys in amongst business advice, which gives 'gems' of wisdom like 'make sure you're prepared for a meeting with someone important' then I can certainly publish something of my own.

If you want to raise your profile, this book is for you. It is simple yet useful. The core concept of this book is called PICKY. P stands for people, I stands for image, C stands for communication, K stands for knowledge, and Y stands for you. It is worth your time.

It had some interesting stories, basic ideas, it doesn't offer anything that new. I would recommend to people with social difficulties or who want to improve their presentation skills, that's about it.
