Caren Blakemore (who's 28) heads to Jamaica after experiencing too many pressures at home---her husband of seven years recently left her for another woman, she's making mistakes at her job in Washington, D.C., she needs money to support her sister financially through private school, etc... Caren's boss insists that she get away for a week and take a break. So she decides to go to Jamaica....

description

In Jamaica, while lying on the beach one day topless in a very secluded area, (not something she usually does), a man who is jogging almost falls over her. A handsome stranger with green-gold eyes and brown hair. Derek Allen is his name and he is quite charming. But Caren is embarrassed to be caught topless and leaves fast.

Derek is attracted to Caren and he is very persistent. He is staying at a neighboring bungalow and he keeps trying to see her and seduce her. Eventually he succeeds in seducing her (and what a lovely seduction that was)! Caren discovers that she is falling in love with Derek and realizes the pain she will endure when their time/week is up so she decides to make a clean break of it and leaves Jamaica without telling Derek (after a few hot nights of passion). But when she gets back to Washington, D.C. she unexpectedly sees Derek again and she discovers some surprising facts about him.

This was a highly enjoyable story by Sandra Brown. It was sexy and romantic. I liked the settings. Derek was a gorgeous and wonderful hero. Caren was a likable heroine. A terrific read!

The hero is a bit of a lecherous git actually. He annoyed me quite a bit. Saying that it was a typical 80s cheesy read. I wonder do authors feels embarrassed about some of their earlier work. Although, saying that some established author can write some utter "up to date" shite too!

My lack of interest in doing a full review, I think, reveals my feelings for this book.

I enjoyed the Tiger Prince, it was a good oldie.

A playboy hero tired of his tom-catting, Caren battling the effects of the past year, a divorce and having to deal with financing her sister's education.

They meet in Jamaica, start an affair but Caren leaves, afraid and in love with him, back in the states she is visited by the FBI and as it turns out Derek is the son of a prince, he offers marriage to save her.

Of course we know that there is more to the offer, namely his feelings and thus begins their marriage with Caren trying hard not to let it become too real, since she's afraid it will end.

It was a quick short read.

"Either a week's paid vacation or suspension without pay. Which is it going to be?"

Caren Blakemore was given an ultimatum by her boss. She'd accidentally put a letter in the wrong mail pouch and it went to the wrong person. Normally this would not be a big deal, but when you work for the US government little mistakes can sometimes have huge consequences. Luckily, this wasn't one of those instances. Caren's life had changed dramatically in the last year after her husband left her for another woman. Even though she wouldn't admit it, her boss was right. She needed a break to get her act together. With some encouragement from her sister, she decided to spend that week in Jaimaca and perhaps have a fling.

Derek Allen was a bona fide playboy. His father was coming to town and in an attempt to avoid him, he booked a trip to Jaimaca. He just wanted to get away from it all.

Neither one could have possibly imagined that by the end of the week they would be involved in an international scandal.

I won this book from the Goodreads first reads program. Let me just say I am so happy I won. About a year ago my husband sent me a link to a podcast interview with Ms. Brown. Ever since listening to the interview I've been wanting to read one of her books. She thoroughly impressed me. Let me just say after reading this book I am once again impressed by Ms. Brown. I absolutely loved it. She first wrote the book under the pseudonym Erin St. Claire in 1985, but it was published again in 1999. The characters, Derek and Caren, are a great pair. I like how Caren's cautious and Derek's not. A man used to getting the women he wants, Derek has to work a little harder than normal to win her confidence. I liked how Ms. Brown slowly showed us Derek's alpha male side. Oh, and I should probably mention that Derek is not who he first portrays himself to be. That is part of the fun on this book. If the rest of her books are as good as this one I'm going to need to make some time in my busy schedule to read them. I gave this one 5 out of 5 roses. Thank you Ms. Brown for putting this book up for a giveaway on Goodreads, and thank you for sending me an additional book, Texas Lucky, and bookmarks. You are too kind. I am now an official fan. :) Can you guess which book I'll be reading next? I'll give you a hint - it's initials are T & L. I should also mention the book is sadly out of print, but you can still find reasonably priced used copies out there. I was hoping eBooks would somehow remedy the need for books to go out of print. Perhaps in the future? It is almost a crime to think that wonderful stories like this one may never again be read.

P.S. This is not the podcast I originally listened to, but it's close enough. So if you've got some time and are interested, this podcast discusses Tough Customer with Sandra Brown. The book came out in 2010 in Hardback and on June 21st in paperback. Here is the link:

This is THE book. Everyone has that one that started it all and THIS is mine. I was 16 and at my grandmas and had nothing to do. I saw this book on the coffee table and read it in 1 sitting. This started my romance addition. While now that I am older and way more well read this book will always be my first.

This one was a bit much on the back and forth. But it still had its swoony moments.

I didn't care for his playboy past being brought up so much, but it was really hard to hate Derek. He was so smitten with Caren. I liked Caren for the most part, I did wish that she was a little more open with him about her feelings. But then we wouldn't have much of the story.

Overall, it was a fun and sweet story. I liked how supportive Derek was of Caren.

The premise and the flow of the story in this book are already outdated, especially if you are reading this book now, but hardcore fans of Sandra Brown (like me) would think this is more of a time capsule unearthed or something like that.

The premise of this book is timeless, I believe. The heroine, Caren, is advised to take a break after committing a minor blunder at work. She decides to spend her vacation in Jamaica, where she meets Derek and starts a brief fling during her stay there. Upon coming home to the US, she discovers who Derek is, changing her life...and marital status along the way. However, there are some gestures here (especially from the hero) that I think in this day and age can be questionable, especially regarding consent and gender equality. Nonetheless, I always have a good time reading her earliest works because seeing how far she has come in her writing is an overwhelming reading experience for me!

Last weekend, after a very long time, I sat down to read some good old romance. I had absolutely loved Sandra Brown's "A Whole New Light", so when I chose this book I had high expectations. Maybe it was the high expectations, maybe I'm just over romance (shudder!) or maybe the book was actually bad, but I did NOT enjoy it. OK, I admit the sex scenes were hot. But that aside, it didn't do anything for me. I couldn't relate to the hero or heroine. They actually kinda annoyed me. The story was...well..nothing new. Their "passion" was way over the top. I just didn't buy it. I guess to enjoy a romance, or any book for that matter, it's not just important but critical that you take the characters seriously, think of them like real people. With this book, I didn't, I couldn't do that. My advice: Skip this one.

In Sandra Brown's early and classic romance, Tiger Prince, she took us on a wild ride like no other before. For Caren Blakemore, she needed a vacation and went to Jamaica to escape from her painful divorce and her high-pressure Washington job. When she meets Derek Allen, a mysterious man hiding from the press, when she became the target of tabloid headlines as she finds romance with him. But she later discovered that her affair had painful repercussions of their own.

This is one of my favorite Sandra Brown books and I have almost all of them. I love Caren and Derek they have amazing chemistry! I also have a thing for sheiks. I loved how this book started with two stranger who just wanted a weekend of hot fantasy that ends with a forced marriage. I loved this from beginning to end. I did get frustrated through the middle when you want to beat some scenes in these people but it is one of my favorites. Defineately a must read.

This was a reread for me, because I wanted something light and quick.

I’ll always have a soft spot for these category romances from the 80s. This is one of the more memorable ones for me. Does it read like it was published in the 80s? For sure. Does it still work as a passionate romantic fantasy despite being a bit outdated and using some flowery language? I think so. Will I be 90 years old and still dragging this book out of storage once in a while to reread it? Probably. Hopefully.

I have gone through at least four paperback copies, worn down until they fell apart. This book sits on a special shelf where I store go-to stories for a wonderful HEA read. An Exciting HEA.

Derek starts out giving off an entitled vibe, yet bored with his jet-setting life. Annoyed by paparazzi chasing him all over town one evening, to the point he gets angry and lets go of his control, bashing one man's camera. He walks into his penhouse apartment, grabs the phone and takes a flight for the first tropical island that comes to mind.

Caran has just been given a verbal dressing down for a mistake made at her State Dept government job, and told to take a vacation. With or without pay. Like any normal person, she takes her vacation time and heads out for a place she had brochures for in her desk.

The two come together in unique ways over the next few days. Derek finds her refreshing, she finds him intimidating... and irresistible. Then she runs home without warning, and wakes to the FBI pounding at her door.

Derek takes the spotlight in this story for me. Wealthy, used to fame and fortune, unlimited women, trips abroad... yet vulnerable in ways you don't expect. I read this book at least once every six or eight weeks, and close the cover at the end with a smile.

Tiger Prince

Caren Blakemore finds herself forced to take a vacation, and she decides to head to Jamaica to get away. She needs to get away from her recent divorce and a break from her high pressure demanding job in Washington DC. She meets Derek her first day on the beach in a way that is embarassing to Caren, but Derek loves the way they met. Derek is running to Jamaica to escape his father and certain expectations that people have for him. They end up having dinner and dancing that night, and this begins their love affair and spending as much time as possible together. The chemistry between them is off the charts. But will a secret that Derek did not share with Caren destroy their relationship? Will it destroy Caren's career? Or will Caren be able to get over that he did not tell her everything about himself? A very entertaining and quick read. Caren and Derek were great together, and wonderful characters. Will their fling turn into true love and a marriage? Read it and find out for yourself.

A book that makes me groan because of the problems that always arise when things start to get better.

This book tells the story of Caren Blakemore's "escape" from a painful divorce and work pressures in Washington. In Jamaica, she meets Derek Allen, who is hiding from the press. Throughout the days and nights in beautiful Jamaica, they share dreams and unbridled passion. When it ends, Caren must suffer the consequences. Caren gets involved in Derek's secret life and becomes international news. His good name is at stake, and there is only one way out for him.

The female protagonist portrays a traumatized woman, even though she always denies it. Another crazy thing she does is to decide everything based on her point of view. Of course, it's her coping mechanism for her past trauma. On the other hand, Derek is portrayed as an average man who is logical and often insensitive to the essential things Caren wants. This book made me feel such drastic emotions, and I enjoyed it and finished it in one read. Plus, the ending was so unpredictable that I couldn't wait to find out. This is the first book I've read by Sandra Brown, and I can't say that I love her language style.

Old school for sure. Divorced career woman heroine, raising her teenage sister, takes a vacation to Jamaica. American born playboy son of a sheik, tiring of his empty life and wanting to avoid the hoopla that surrounds his father's visit to D.C., takes a vacation to Jamaica. Crazy passionate affair ensues, then heroine decides to leave early to avoid painful goodbye. Only to find herself face to face with hero across a table surrounded by state department officials, and then pushed into marriage with hero to protect her reputation and future well being.

At one point in Jamaica I laughed out loud at Derek's arrogant remarks to Karen. I don't think Sandra Brown has ever made me laugh out loud before.

Fairly quick and enjoyable read with a slightly over the top alpha rich but likable hero, a strong heroine and some fun supporting characters.

I couldn't like it even though I tried
I didn't care for the heroine, couldn't feel connected with her. It felt like the hero was doing all the work in this book while the heroine was just receiving.

All the romantic gestures the hero was doing felt a bit over the top, he met her on the beach and started immediately acting like an adoring newlywed husband on his honeymoon with the love of his life!!
Even the sex didn't FEEL hot even though it was supposed to be steeming

Then the heroine discovers suddenly that she is in love with him, when? Why? How?
And by the way, nobody should give a 16-year old wine (without even asking) just to treat her like an adult, she is not and the adults should've been more responsible and should've been better examples
