Cheap Therapy: Writing Her Way Sane...

Rate this book
Cheap Therapy picks up where Deep Breaths and Chocolate left off. Sue Baiman continues to write her unique brand of prose poems as she experiences all the highs and lows life has to offer. Her words are her therapy as she writes her way through life. This volume is divided into six sections covering the gamut of emotions and experiences. Sue shares her thoughts on negative emotions; family; learning life lessons and personal growth; love and sex; positive emotions; and on writing and the words themselves. Her hope is that sharing the words that have helped her make some sense out of what life has thrown at her will help the reader if they've found themselves in a similar situation. So make yourself comfy on the couch, open to the appropriate section, and enjoy some Cheap Therapy.

Sue captures the complex nature of love, family, relationships, and sexuality in this hard-hitting poetic sequel to her breakout collection, Deep Breaths & Chocolate: The Poetry of Divorce, Moving Forward, and Discovering Love.

This poem/short story collection reaches the bright and happy parts to life as well as the deep dark demons that lurk inside us. It reminds us that we are not alone in our experiences, it makes you wonder, makes you hurt, makes you smile and think, it will bring you to the edge of tears and fill you with hope. Sue's words will touch every corner of your soul. The feelings are raw, when she hurts, you hurt, when she smiles you smile right back. It reads of words we should have said and reminds us to question and talk and find a middle ground before it's too late. It encourages you to let the past be the past and to learn from your mistakes, to never give up and to always press forward no matter how hard times are.

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not much of one for poetry, so take all my words with a grain of salt. Sea salt. Rock salt. Whatever the big one is that you can melt ice and make ice cream with.

Anyway, I may not be so good with the poems, but I could still see that this is a soul laid bare. This isn't a book of poems to just read straight through. Do that, and most of them will run together. This is the kind of poetry you pick up and flip through to read one and savor it, or find the section themed with what you want/need, and read one. I bet there will be something that will at least bring calm, if not peace or solice. Give it a shot.

Was thoroughly impressed by Ms. Baiman's work! No pointless rhyming or superficial topics can be found here. Very insightful and touching.
