Two strangers; one lives her life without a worry, the other hunts her from the shadows. Planning and plotting, leaving a trail of corpses behind him. Their paths will finally cross. Everything she imagined, her little safe and secure life to be, is about to change in a blink. A simple after work drink becomes the beginning of a terrifying nightmare she may not wake up from.
It wouldn’t matter if this book was the best seller around the world, a phenomenon of literature. It wouldn’t make a single difference to me because I won’t read a book with this title. I would be grossed out the whole time thinking about drooling, slobbering “thingys”. Not a good sight or thought for that matter.
I almost quit reading this book early on as the first 6 chapters are extremely ostentatious. The first half of this book made me think that Vidal sought out every big word imaginable, weaving each one in to make the storyline feel fancy yet in actuality making it feel extraordinarily pretentious. Usually I try to focus on every detail while reading a book but I consciously had to force myself to not be too critical, moving on as long as I got the gist of what the author was trying to say (which at times was actually quite difficult). I’m glad I persevered though because at chapter 6, the writing style completely changes, as though a different author took over, everything suddenly becoming much more readable.
In addition to the outlandish vocabulary, this was probably one of the worst edited books I’ve ever read. I was flabbergasted to see the name of an editor listed next to the name of the author on Goodreads! Had I not personally downloaded this book from Amazon myself, I would have been willing to bet everything I own that what I was reading was a draft or Beta copy that had never, ever been edited! There are typos on practically every single page and every other grammatical error possible was present! The first chapter, which probably should be called the prologue, was repeated verbatim later in the book – literally every single word! Again though, I’m glad I forced myself to overlook all of these distractions because in the end, it was an extremely entertaining, surprising story! This is not your typical stalker tale but the story of a truly disturbed man. Along with this entertaining main character was the an underlying storyline that comes as a fabulous twist at the very end!
With a ***GOOD*** editor, this book could become something special but as it is now, it’s still a work in progress. It’s clear that Vidal is talented though so I will definitely consider giving his books a chance again in the future
Dec. '17: zou dit boek(je) buddy readen met Kim, maar zij was sneller en had het al gelezen voordat ik eraan toe was... en was niet echt onder de indruk... dus ik schuif 'm ff terug de boekenkast in. 😉 The Erogenous Zone; BotM December 2017.
Saliva was my first book from AR Vidal. I kinda knew what to expect and kinda not. So I went in with no preconceived notions... I'm not giving anything story line related away but I want to say I loved the ending. Absolutely didn't see it coming! He tells a wonderful story with fantastically descriptive writing. -I lie next to her tucking a pillow snugly beneath my head, admiring the persuasiveness of a seductive red blanket veiling it's velvet skin over hers, leaving slivers of her illicit tattooed flesh to tease my wicked thoughts. mmmm. If that doesn't lead the imagination....a perfect job of helping you to "see" the story. His use of the written word is exceptional. I love his word choices and the prose is more complex. It matches the macabre so well. The only things I came across were some typos and a couple of really long sentences that should have been caught by the editors. All in all a great first story for me by AR Vidal and I can't wait to open up the next. This was a great turn from the erotica I usually read. 4.5 Stars
This is probably best for adult readers due to it's violence. "Jack" is a stalker, a psycho, was an abused child, he is just totally messed up. This book is told in the first person by none other than "Jack". You to learn about his relationship his mom (I'm sorry), you get to follow in his shoes as he goes about his days while he narrates it all.... Jack is a creepy fellow. A.R. Vidal keeps the reader on edge with every page just waiting to see if this is the page that the psycho kills his female obsession. Mr. Vidal makes the main character creepy from the beginning. This is one of those books where you KNOW something is going to happen, but you have to keep turning those pages to finally read it. Now I was sure I new WHAT was going to happen, I just didn't know when. This ending was an AMAZING surprize! I think the story was great, but the ending was phenomenal! RECOMMENDED to all who like the horror genre, you don't want to skip this one.
Genre is definitely horror. The story reads like poetry I assume to mask the gruesomeness of the kills.
The story is so poetic I didn’t find anything really scary in the story. Maybe shocking. Shocking only because the scenes are so eloquently written I needed to read again to confirm something bad happened.
There’s a twist at the end I didn’t see coming. Decent and quick read with zero after affects after completion.
This review is my personal opinion of the story. My personal opinion should have ZERO influence on your perception of the story. Enjoy!
A. R. is still a new author to me. This is the second book I've read and it was different for me. I enjoyed reading the book though. It had my mind thinking in different was than usual when I read books. I had to think in the twisted way the author was writing. To have someone intrigue you so much to follow her for months and learn her every action is beyond creepy. Only to find out it is you that has been stalked. Look forward to reading more of his books.
This book is just ...WOW !! Told in the killers POV, the tale is gripping !! It pulls you in and you hold on until the end. You won't be able to put it down because this guy is messing with YOUR mind !! You got to known what happens next and reading what goes through this guys mind just blew me away !! And just wait for the twists !! An outstanding read !! 💛
I am a fan of horror and a stalker type book, so I have to say, this did NOT disappoint!!! AR Vidal is amazing!! This book was just the right amount of surprises for me, the park scene, with the homeless man and the cop....Loved it!! The ending....WOW!! Definitely a MUST READ!!! I cant wait to read more of his!!!
I started reading this book with an open mind, I am so glad i did. It grabs your attention from the start and the word are so well used that I was able to picture it as I read. The ending blew me away diffently a new twist. Can't wait to read more from this amazing author.
This was my first read by A.R. Vidal and will definitely not be my last. I finished this book in less than a day because I could not put it down. My mind was blown! He is definitely a go to author!!
Not even sure how to review this one. It was a short weird read. Didn’t even really find out the girl he was stalking name. Most of it was murder. Then just when you thought he was going to kill her bam twist.
It's kinda like watching a train wreck. You know you don't want to read it, because of the thoughts it will put in you head, but at the same time you can't stop reading it. I loved the surprises. Those are worth finishing the book for. Great job.
Loved it!!!! Wow, this kept me going anxiously waiting to see what would happen. To say I was totally shocked at the outcome of this dark read is beyond what I expected. Absolutely loved it. ARVidal you simply amaze me. Looking forward to reading more.
Great book , tense , sexy , a book you can't put down . It holds your attention and emotions throughout the story . You will love it . I highly recommend it you want the darker side of life .
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review. A.R. Vidal has a good way with description and story telling. He knows how to use language to his benefit to build his world without clouding the plot too thick as to get lost. Saliva was a fun read that takes you through the mind of a stalker/murderer as he stalks his prey. It is a short read, so I don't want to give away too much. I will say this, and it's the reason I gave it 4 stars out of 5. The writing, while good, felt rushed at times. I feel Vidal should have slowed down a little. An example without giving any spoilers, is when the stalker has a meeting with a certain diabetic. It's in those instances I felt Vidal dropped a good moment to really let his character shine. So essesntially my complaint is that I wanted to read more. This novella is definitely worth a read, and has some humorous moments.
This is the first book I have read by A.R. Vidal and it well worth more than 5 stars. It was twisted, suspenseful, dark, and most importantly made me think. The best part about this book is how the book completed a full circle. You not only experience what is in his head but you also learn what made him this way. And most importantly the method to his madness. I was highly impressed with this authors writing.
How many times have we been walking down the street and felt someone following or watching us? We chalk it up to our overactive imaginations but what if it is a psychopath stalker memorizing our routines and schedule. He/she is just waiting for the right time to attack. And that is exactly what this book was about. The ending just floored me. Didn’t see that coming for miles.
