Rate this book
Six months after Cassie Morgan faced The Assassin, it’s time for her to get back to work. After a break from the FBI, Cassie arrives to find her first assignment: the death of her former informant, Maria Floures.

In order to bring justice to Floures, Cassie is assigned to work with a group of DEA agents investigating a drug ring that has ties to Floures and the man suggested of murdering her. One of those DEA agents is Seth Edwards, a man who recently stood Cassie up on a blind date.

While she tries to ignore the tension between her and Seth, the two must work closely together when Seth goes undercover to infiltrate the drug group tied to Floures. Once he’s in, Cassie realizes that this group may be connected to more than just Floures. As they peel back the structure of the drug ring, Cassie realizes a figure from her past is at the head of it, and Cassie may have just been double played.

Laura Teagan has always had a passion for story telling. From an early age, it was verbal story telling, singing, and acting. It wasn’t until junior high that her love of books and story telling came together and she began working on her first book.

After a career in the traditional publishing world, Laura decided to launch her own writing career by self-publishing her first novel, The Assassin.

She’s currently finishing college, and she’ll graduate with a degree in public relations and advertising, plus a minor in creative writing, a degree package perfect for self-publishing.

The Assassin is the first book in The Cassie Morgan Series, and Laura is currently working on the sequel, Double Played, which will be out in early 2016.

When she isn’t working on one of her books, Laura runs the popular writing blog, Ginger & Books, and she’s recently launched the writing community, The Social Writer.

The covers of these novels are definitely something. Plus they portray Cassie as the badass heroine that she is, as well as having a soft loveable side when it comes to one person. I also love that it’s a different colour to the first one, the blue mixed with black definitely fits the entire mood for this story.

I tore through the book so fast I can't even remember all the good points I wanted to write about. That said I'm still going to give it ago because I seriously could NOT put this book down. There are so many twists and turns in this novel, that at some stages I never thought it was going to end, and there are emotional pulls.

Cassie's friends are keeping things from her, Cassie herself seems conflicted internally, throw an old flame (and a new one) into the mix and things get complicated. That said, it's incredibly easy to keep up with everything thats going on in this story. I love how Laura weaves everything in together so effortlessly. One minutes you're surrounded by confusion of how people are acting and the next everyone is spilling their guts or fighting.

My favourite scene is without doubt near the end with the drug ring. Please read it to find out. I don't want to give away any spoilers which makes it hard for me to write reviews sometimes, but seriously, not just saying it because Laura is a friend, GO AND BUY THIS BOOK. I loved it and devoured it in less than a week.

Definitely recommend this book for anyone who had read The Assassin. 5/5 Stars. Find more reviews at littlenovelist.com
