The Imagineers are no slouches when it comes to history. Many of the attractions and shows they create are steeped in it. But the history is hidden. In this second of Andrew Kiste's best-selling "tours", you'll dig deeply into the back stories of five Walt Disney World favorites. Have you ever wondered who's the Casey in Casey's Corner? Why its baseball theme, as well as the circus theme of Storybook Circus, are such powerful symbols in American culture? How the many scenes in Spaceship Earth deliver a surprisingly rich, detailed timeline of civilization to astute guests - but only if you first know what the Imagineers knew when they created it? You'll learn all that and more on your historical tour IT’S THE HAPPIEST HISTORY CLASS ON EARTH!
While the first book in this series had charm in making me remember visiting Walt Disney World last year, this book had none of it. This book is patronising (I mean, it keeps going 'most people don't know this...' and the such-like before following on with the most basic fact), not to mention at one point this book should it necessary to describe what a circus was to the reader. One of the biggest problems with it, however, is the glorification of America. I'm Scottish (we're big fans of Americana in Scotland), but when an American is just constantly going on about how amazing America is and how it is the 'best nation in the world' and all that, you can't help but sit there and go... 'well, most of the achievements you're claiming actually come from people of other nations... but okay'
Wow. I’ve been reading this book on and off for 3 years. It was verrrrry history heavy, and may have not been the book for me since I haven’t visited WDW. My favorite part of the book was the Pirates section, and other parts drug slowly.
If you like history then this may be for you. It does drag at times but has some really fascinating information. This volume discusses the historical relevance of Country Bear Jamboree, Casey’s Corner, Storybook Circus, Spaceship Earth, and Sunset Market Ranch.
An engaging look at the historical background that inspired and informed the development of The Country Bear Jamboree, Casey's Corner, Storybook Circus, Spaceship Earth, and the Sunset Ranch Market at Walt Disney World.
The chapter on Spaceship Earth includes the most extensive and exhaustive description of Spaceship Earth that I've ever seen.
