Notorious splash page:

About what I expected.
DC has digitized all the back-up stories for some of the early Batman issues of their flagship magazine (just scans, though. The coloring is atrocious.)
I like Golden Age comics, at least in principle. Actually reading them is a bit of a chore.
None of the art is outstanding, but some of it is competent, unlike Bob Kane.
Jerry Siegel's Slam Bradley story was ridiculous.

I bought two more of these during the Batman 80th anniversary sale. Oy!

"The Case of the Ruby Idol"
This starts off as a straight forward story then it proceeds to get silly, you have a guy pretending to be Chinese while hiring mongols and "fake: Hindu half naked men wearing turbans.

I read the Batman story; the story about D. A. Steve Malone; the short prose story, Mystery With Music; and then the story about Cosmo, The Phantom Of Disguise, although it wasn't a complete story. It just ended, as if DC forgot to scan in the rest of the pages from it lol! I don't know what the hell happened there, but I love the unique lettering used in that comic--the little flourishes on some of the letters, especially the Es.
I liked most of the content in those four stories. The short story was a nice surprise; the way it's written, it could have been written in a voice from today. To me it shows that maybe not that much has changed over the years. People are still just...people.

I was a little unimpressed with this issue as well. The mysteries are certainly getting to feel repetitive and the villains are unremarkable. I can see why the police are so adamantly against Batman seeing as he kills the villains in almost every fight!

This is where the blue and grey costume takes shape, making Batman much more colorful. I did not care about the other stories and, as pointed out by many, these Golden Age stories have some ugly undertones.

En esta entrega, Batman lucha contra Lenox, un hombre que haría todo por obtener el Kila de rubí.

Another enjoyable story for Detective Comics, maybe there are some stereotypes about the enemies, but after all, this is a comic from the past century.
